  1. Raiders, Myself and a couple of mates hit Flint & Steel last saturday afternoon and into the early evening targetting jews and came up empty handed. Not a single bite from any description of a fish at all. The place was barron. Did anyone have some luck there on saturday night? Bolts
  2. Wow, amazing shots SeaRabbit! Ken Duncan has some competition
  3. Yeah, I'd love to get a Stella but unfortunately the budget doesn't stretch that far. Sounds like the Spheros is a better reel than the Stradic though. However I think the Stradic does offer a spare spool for another size line which would be handy, I think the Spheros doesn't. Anyone else have an opinion? Would the 8000 size be overkill for rockfishing? Cheers
  4. Looking at purchasing a spinning reel to use on a 10-12 foot beach/rock rod chasing salmon/kingies/bonnies and snapper but also double up as a reel to use on boats chasing Jews/Kings. I like the looks of either of these 2 reels but haven't had any experience using them. Does anyone have an opinion on which reel outperforms and why? And what size should I be looking at getting? Thanks in advance.
  5. With only a T-Shirt as well! You are a man of steel to endure those temps. Hats off to you and Congrats on a nice couple of fish. Well done!
  6. Yeah good thinking snapR. Or maybe someone has come up with a tubular rod holder like you see on boats that is attached to a metal plate that you could velcro or tie to on the railings of the wharf. That way you could sit the rod into the rod holder that is strapped to the railing and pull the rod out and in of the rod holder as you need....more or less mimicking a rod holder in a boat that is attached a side railing. Anyone seen of or used what I'm trying to imagine?
  7. Well done in retreiving your rod with fish still in tow. When ya gotta get your rod back there is no stopping ya. Is there specific rod holders out there for holding rods in place on wharves and jetties? I've always wondered how to fish a wharf with multiple rods out using large baits chasing large fish if you want to have the reel in gear and not free spool. Anyone out there have an ingenious rod holder that they attach to the railings of the wharf? or do you mainly leave your reels in free spool? Cheers
  8. Happy Birthday Swordie! Have a great day.
  9. Well done again guys. You're a Jewie Freak. That's an amazing session again and would of been great fun. I truely am envious! Did you catch the squid on the night or was this fresh/frozen squid that you used? That spot of yours is the real deal. Congrats again.
  10. Awesome read mate. Great catch. You persisted and was rewarded with the ultimate prize. Congratulations!
  11. Hey good luck Jamesds. I'm jealous. How do I convince my who can't swim and is afraid of boats to go on a trip like you're going on? Have fun mate.
  12. Hi Searabbit, Thanks for the tips. I think you're right about the bait. The squid I had was very pink and rubbery. Trouble was I couldnt find any yakkas. I wonder if the yakkas don't come upstream when the water is dirty. Hence the lack of fresh bait. If ya can, can you pm me the locs of the deeper holes you are talking about...ie how far from the land? Is it castable? Musty, thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm sure it will happen sometime. Also, strange thing is I never got a snag. I must of found every little sandy patch there. Bolts
  13. Hi Raiders, Sunday afternoon (4:00pm) I hit Brooklyn (landbased) just downriver from the Railway bridges. Plan was to hit the Marina area and pick up some livies then target Jewfish during the first part of the runout. That's where the plan came stuck. I berleyed hard with bread only to see picker bream around and no yakkas anywhere to be seen. So with crappy frozen squid and frozen Hawkesbury prawns I hit the rocks just on the corner as you head towards the railway bridges. High tide was around 5:00pm and I had the squid and prawns out for the next 2 hours with zero bites. Do you guys think that maybe there was too much fresh in the sytem yesterday and that's why the fish weren't biting or was it the bait that I was using or is there something else that I'm missing. Apart from that it seemed ideal conditions with the turn of the tide right on dusk and fishing a choke point in the river around a red marker. Back to the drawing board in trying to land my first Jew. Cheers
  14. Very Nice Diver1. Congrats
