  1. hey nice work. i haven't been fishing on the way to work for a while, you have inspired me. are you doing any more fishing this week? i have a hankerign for some hairtail. you want to come?
  2. whats really interesting is that i have never landed an arrow squid. always southern calamari. i want an arrow! 1 arm.. probably been jigged before. or list a fight with a fish..as for the eggs. .. i only find them in large squid.
  3. haha you look like you are in a "oh shi*t hold on" pose
  4. thanks heaps. i cant wait to get out there again now! i bought some 30 lb vanish leader and 3 pyramid sinkers with the steel loops in them
  5. should the drop shot sinker be running free on the whole line(with double uniknots joining braid to fluorocarbon) or am i meant to be segmenting the line by having a swivel from the braid to the leader? If so, which side should the sinker go? clip the sinker to the swivel?
  6. how should i rig all this up by the way? In terms of a jewfish rig? i tried the rod out on sunday night. wow i am NOT used to such a heavy rod! i find it really hard to cast long distances.
  7. if i can work up the energy to go out in this storm. ill go to the bridge tonight..
  8. sweet! thats great news, ill try 30 lb vanish. the rods warranty is "unbreakable under normal fishing conditions" damn weather!!! i want to play with it on the weekend! when i get my new reel, which i haven't decided on what to get yet ill load that with 60 lb braid. and 80 lb vanish. and it should make a cracker of a kingfish rod i think
  9. being that the rod isn't as heavy as i thought Jewgaffer, what fluorocarbon do you recommend? i am land based 99.9% of the time as well.
  10. nahh, i didnt post in the wrong thread.. kingfish rod/jewfish rod, its the same rod for me
  11. thats the thing.. it has the big first fuji guide and good fuji reel seats and guides...and thats the model number on it. but it did say made in china on the tearoff bit it is 6 - 10 KG im slightly disappointed i bought a crap one then .. and it was 119 dollars if that gives you an indication on it.. i read your post about them and went out and bought the exact model number you have. somehow i got a dud... its USP-BWS22012 uglystick platinum etcetc 6 -10 KG .. i will have to take a photo tonight. "USP-BWS2201-2 2pc 2.10m/7'0 ''6-10kg M Spin"
  12. For the purpose of chasing Kingfish and Jewfish, i have bought an UglyStik Tiger USP-BWS22012 2 piece 7 foot rod. I have my Jarvis Walker Ceratec 4000 reel with some 20lb mono backing and 20lb suffix braid. But i forgot to buy fluorocarbon. what rating fluorocarbon should i use for these species? Or should i look into some other material? Not mono i am guessing? As the 20lb mono i have was 7 dollars for 380 meters..so its 0.45mm thick.. i might use it for a bit of a whippersnippering later..do the edging in the garden.. i was leaning toward 30lb vanish leader material. what do you guys use on your jew/king rods? i also mention i am very new to the "having a fish that can snap you off if you don't tire it out" thing. and was very surprised when something almost pulled me off the wharf on Monday night. I wasn't letting go, and IT wasn't letting go. but the 12lb mono was the weak link in that fight.. so any tips on how to tire a fish out will help me too Its killing me that the weather is so bad at the moment. my brand new setup just sitting in the corner waiting for its first thrashing! on another note..i accidentally bought 4/0 Gamakatsu Gangster hooks instead of 4/0 Suicide hooks. these hooks have the open eyes that can be closed with pliers, will these work just as well if I just close them up by themselves? I have heard they are weaker around the eye than a factory closed eye hook and they open up slightly with a big enough pull(big jew/king etc). Any thoughts?
  13. bugger! thanks for the tip off anyway. i really want to get out there and start thrashing my new kingfish setup!!
  14. so what about the sunday morning then? will that be way too late and the water be terrible for jews? thinking about leaving at 6am for a day on the water.
  15. i just bought one, and now reading this makes me feel i have made a good decision for a jewfish and kingfish rod edit: mine is 6 - 10 KG, but it is the exact model number you mentioned.. weird
  16. casting in all directions bait!! no way! salt and pepper squid with 2 bream fillets that i have to go cook in the next hour!
  17. As some may know, im new to this fishing game. but last night i finally caught a break! i went across to balmoral at 530pm and set up shop with my deckchair , a box of pizza shapes and a bottle of water and some chicken thigh fillets and a few new yamashita jigs. i first set up my main rod with a bit of chicken and set it out there and attached a 2.0 yamashita natural colour egi jig to my bream/spin/squid rod and after a few casts( i dont remember) i got a little friend. so i reeled the big rod in and attach my new friend to it on a sliding hook rig with 2/0 suicide hooks.cast... 5 minutes later i feel a tug and a few big tugs and im thinking to myself, feels like a big squid.. hauled it in slowly. turned out to be a monster toad fish.. i tried to get the hook out but he wanted it so i cut the line and popped him back into the ocean. i attached another 2/0 hook with what was left of the squid (now minus head) and cast again, minutes elapsed and i reeled him in to check i still had bait on the line. and it looked like some squid had attacked his side. very distinct bite marks on his side.. to i tossed him back again, this time further out. 10 minutes of me sitting in my chair having a drink of water. and i see a little hit on my rod. ah hah!! i say. and i reel slowly in and i can feel alot of weight on the line this time.. i reeled him into the wharf and it was a large squid knowing that if he is hooked it probably wont hold as it wasnt a jig i got a fellow fisherman to hold him next to the wharf while i tossed a yamashita 2.5 orange jig right next to him and he grabbed onto that as well and we both pulled him onto the wharf.. here he is with the 2.5 jig and the squid bait.. a keeper for sure! i tossed him into a plastic bag and kept fishing. i put some chicken thigh on my big rod and cast it out into a known hole just to see what can be had. and kept squidding with the orange yamashita 2.5 and a glowing thingo about 5cm from the jig.. and then...bam! another! while i was on the phone to the telling her of my amazing turn of luck, the bells on my big rod go off, i hang up on her and start trying to control this fish thats pulling out my drag! after a minute of fighting, its a 27cm Bream and my first keeper fish! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~!! some time elapses and i put the chicken back out there on the big rod and put the natural colour yamashita 2.0 back on my squid rod and start having a play again.. then bam another taker! by this time its 1145 and im wondering how long i should stay out here versus what will i do with all these squid anyway.. so at 1150 i say to myself, one more and ill go home. and at 1152, another squid takes the jig. well that takes care of that.. and home i went moon phase 21.5 with rising tide
  18. im thinking of heading out there now, but its going to be packed full of jokers and this wind isnt helping the fishing
  19. damn, i was there last night too, only a little baby snapper about 10cm
  20. Hey Simmo, i caught a fish there last night :D :D:D:D:D it was a pretty snapper(i am pretty sure). being the model citizen i am he went back in the water after the quick photo as he was only small. i tossed him on the other side of the jetty, but he swam back to where i got him from... silly fish! did i meet you there? i was the young man with the flashing head torch.
  21. yep yep makes sense, but a wobbegong attacking a seal? im still confused by picture 2 though
  22. hammerhead shark right? picture 2 seems to make it look that way
