  1. G'day fellow raiders, havent posted in a while, been in Fiji for the past 2 months or soo, but its good to be back

Me and the family decided to take a trip up to Central Coast and stay there for the weekend, and nowing me i couldnt help but to bring a rod with me. The place we were staying was only 1min walk from the beach soo brought with me a beachrod and acouple of hooks and sinkers. As soon as we got down ther i was itching to go fora fish but mum, said i had to spend the day with the family then i can go all tomorrow.

Soo anyways woke up at 5:30 got every thing ready bought some pillies and headed down. Didnt know that the hell a gutter was or wer the hell to cast soo thought stuff it, i'll just throw it out as far as i can, did soo and it wasnt long until nipple...nipple....Bang, and im on. Didnt feel like much of a fish saw a lil flash of the fish thought it was a small Tailor, but as i brought it closer...ZZZZZZZZZZZ.... it starts going crazy, putting up a great fight, thought it must have gotten eaten by something, but the it jumped and it was my very first Australian salmon! :headbang: :headbang:

Washed him up in the waves and it was a 45cm Salmon! My very first, there was not wipping the smile of my face.

Nothing for about another hour, except 3-4 Dart, biggest around 30cm

I spot a patch of water that looks fishy (dont ask me how it just was :tongue3: ). Straight away nipple......nipple.............BANG! Here we go a good fish its taking line and at a pretty fast rate. Just let it run its not going anywhere but out towards deeper water, its slows down abit, soo i start pumping and winding, takes more line, it takes me for a bit of a walk down the beach, i dunno if its either a big salmon or a Jew, just keep, keeping presure, then pop, its gone... :BangHead: :BangHead:

Pop on another pillie and into the same area of water, then bang! im on, not as big as the last fish but still a good fight, get it in a 47cm Salmon.

Long story short, caught 2 Salmon and about 5 dart, lost about 5 fish, ohh well thats fishing :headbang:

    Cheers Zac :wave1:

P.s. If anyone goes beach fishing anytime soon, have extra room for one? Im hooked on beach fishin now

  2. I love catching Flattys.

But i want to buy a new combo specifically for catching flathead, mostly medium sized up to the huge 1m+ crocs.

But im not really sure what to buy?

My budget is around $200 for a rod and reel and braid.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Zac

  6. Hey Guys

Lately i have been getting very lazy with my squid heads and wings and just putting them in a bag and freezing them together. Normally i put heads in ziplock bags and wings in icecream cntainers so they fit nicely in the freezer. Anyway these big bags of frozen squid is taking up to much room someone please come take them. Great bait and some squid are whole still from even lazier fishing trips. Estimate 10kg i need to get rid off as i can't close the door properly and everything is starting to really ice up.

Where abouts do you live mate?

    I'll take the whole ones

Just out of curiosity, how old are the whole ones?

    Cheers, Zac

  8. I really want to start getting into beach fishing, but ive only had two or three experiences. I would love to catch a Salmon or even a Tailor, but i dont really know much about the gear i should use or even what the hell a gutter is?

    So my questions are:

    1. Where should i cast for Salmon and Tailor?

    2. A good beach close to Drummoyne (not like up Central Coast or Broken Bay!) i could target one or both species at?

    3. Line poundage?

    4. Braid or Mono?

    5. what is a gutter?

    Cheers, Zac

  9. Your name: Zac

    Age: 14

    Your Location: Drummoyne

Fishing technique: Bream on lures in winter

    Availability: Mostly weekends

    Preferred location: Sydney harbour

Provide your own gear? No, havent got any gear for Luring bream YET!

    Provide your own boat? No

Ive had experice with luring bream in the warmer months but, catch bugger all during winter. So im really interested to try and crack that winter secret about where, when ect.

Ive sold most of my fishing gear, due to personal reasons, so i dont have any gear to target bream on lures

So if someone could maybe take me out fishing, i would greatly appreciate it.

    Cheers, Zac

  10. go the lighter outfit mate bream are around all year round especially in winter when the big girls come out to play yes a bit harder to target but bigger fish in winter if your a bit concerned about it being only a bream out fit consider bumping the reel up to a 2000 and loading it with 6lb sunline perfect for bream but will also handle larger species to (within reason)

    happy birthday to

    mick

    Thanks everyone!

I think im going to got the bream outfit.

    Cheers, Zac

  11. Its my B'day tomorrow and will be getting some money this week or maybe the next.

But im faced with a very hard decision, pick a Jewie combo or a bream combo?

    Jewie combo:

10 or 11ft 8-15kg Penn Big game surf rod $80

    80 Quantum Surge $100

    30lb braid $60

    Total: $240

    Or

    Bream combo:

    1-3kg pfleuger trion $105

1000 Shimano reel (havent made up my mind)$50-$100

    4lb Fireline crystal $25

    Around $220-$250

But my main concern is that im too late for the bream season and that i should wait till next yeat and ive been tring to catch a jewies for 1 year and it will be a big waste of time that whole 1 year for nothing.

And winter is the time for big jewies??

I know i know it personal prefrence but i just dont know??

Could some one please help me out with what i should perchase?

    Cheers, Zac
