  1. Dumb people put them selfs in dumb situations weathers its day or night the majority of incidents happen on days most wouldn't be seen on the rocks, or at least not at those spots. The spot your fishing is safe In anything under 2m, I have fished it in 3m, in saying that I have been swamped there in the middle of the night by a freak wave up to my chest in water in the pitch black. By the way, won't get much but sharks at night there. Wasting ur time. Is other spot that do produce well at night though.
  2. Mate wanted me to take him out on sat to try find him his first snapper. so headed off port stephens, got drenched getting out, but swell back off and wind glassed off for a perfect morning. was quiet for first few hrs with it hard trying get any sort of drift happening with no current, bonnies then becoming a problem eating every sp soon as in hit the water. finally managed to find him one about 2.5-3kg, then quickly got a couple more round the same size and a new pb on sp for me at 4.69kg, only after getting destroyed on the cast before.
  3. For the $$ I recon it would be hard to find a better rod...
  4. It's an older 6'6" I think monster mesh, rated 9kg drag but I have run more then 10kg over it more then a few times, hasn't exploded yet. Like the softer rods
  5. I run 50lb over my pe2-4 rod... Go more on the drag rating then line weight. If ur fishing locked drag maybe a heavier rod if ur only gonna fish 8-9kg of drag u'll be fine.
  6. Nice to hear a story of someone doing the righ thing, to rough don't fish, too many time I have seen people in the same situation that decide to still throw in a line just because they made the trip.
  7. Tld 25 loaded with 15kg and live fibre is a pretty good place to start
  8. Or just stop the pro fishers.... I'll give u an example... They want to 1/2 blackfish from 20 to 10, Last year fishing of blacksmith breakwall, large school of blackfish (hundreds) I was catching a few, when the pros lauch there boat and row out putting a wide net round the entire school, no survivors, got the whole lot (filled several truck trays)... Now does it really matter if my bag limit is 10 or 20 on that day when the pros just take everything that was left??? Now while agree that some changes need to happen with size limits, I think we all know where the real problem is.... Pros raping the ocean
  9. Don't complicate it, 3m trace, float on trace, hook... Can add a swivel 1m from hook, but I don't. They come though at random, just gotta have a bait in water. Again give the Lbg guys room, have been chopped off by inconsiderate boaties more then once. Better places to target them anyway in a boat .
  10. Don't nesseisarily need heavy gear, have got pleany of pigs over 50cm and also a 4kg groper on my blackfish gear, less the 10lb line. Do have the chance of stopping a few bigger fish on heavier gear though lots of bread burley, bait with bread, banana/cooked prawns, cunji, crabs.... mix it up somedays they will go off on bread n wont touch prawns n vice versa.
  11. There was at least one drowning last year were the guy had a PFD but it barely made the news.... Hmmm wonder why, wouldn't want to contradict anything that's been said. Has been more then a few drowning on the rocks by people that were NOT fishing. If u make it compulsory to wear PFD while fishing u'll need to make it compulsory for everyone standing on ocean rocks. How is it any different if I'm stand on the edge of the rocks taking a walk? Lets just make it compulsory for swimmers as well, people drown on the beach also. If u can't swim shouldnt be near the water or in a situation were u might end up in the water full stop.
  12. Check out bfp swimbaits, amazing looking stickbaits.
  13. I would also check braid the dodgy ones are normally heaps thicker the stated
  14. The 15-24kg live fibre will handle 24 just, but if you are fishing 24 hard (past strike) might want something else, there ratings are a bit soft, will handle most things though. See if you can get your hands on a second hand sabre/calstar/seeker maybe (24-37kg rating), they pop up from time to time, New your prob looking at $600. Most Lbg rods will be on calstar graph fighters gf700-gf800 blanks. i have a seeker & are a few others out there also.
  15. long rods are painful leave them for spinning, stick to 7-8 ft, the uglg stick you talking about has a reputation for snapping about 6inch from the tip, live fibres are the go to in that price range, 7' 8-15 kg for 10kg, 7' 15-24 for 15kg, i own the 8' 10-20kg tex good for 10-15kg. Though now i build my own custom rod & use a 7'6 with a soft tip an fast taper alot nices then off the shelf rods but come at a cost.
  16. I fish the lake quite a bit n always manage to get a few, i never use bait always sp's or hb's these days and usually move around a bit. like all fishing some day are better then others, have had many day's were i have been able to bag out on several species and have had day's were i struggle to hook anything. Just have to be a bit smarter about where u fish.
  17. that king is ridiculous, makes my 25kg one look like a rat lol
  18. well seeming how the alps reel seat n fuji guide are worth well over $100. its a good bargin.
  19. yes on 6kg line lol Was funny i had a lady abuse me for taking it out of the water for a picture, and then abused me when i released it were people were swimming, cause shovel noses are man eater lol Yer have caught a few big one's up in qld. never seen another one that big down this far south though
  20. shovel, and yes the bigger ones do go hard. got this one couple years ago at port stephens on 6kg
  21. na pigs is just a nickname for rock blackfish or drummer. though that was a very good one, i'm determined to crack the +60cm mark this year.... stay tuned
  22. my salina 2 is s##t, have replaced all the bearings, line roller replaced after it cracked, the "forged" handle shaft is bent, screws coming loose.... and that was all after one good fish. oh and because its okuma corrosion everywhere. Okuma aren't bad for the price, but i would rather spend the little bit more, as i have other reels that have copped more abuse and are still going strong.
  23. when the spool starts to get a little low, wind it off, put the spare braid back on the bottom so its full again.
  24. 80cm king 6lb braid 10lb leader 25kg king 15kg mono 60lb leader 4kg groper & 3.5kg pigs 10lb main blackfish outfit 100kg marlin 15kg mono 80lb leader 92cm flatty 6lb mono few +15kg longtails on 8kg mono land based & 6kg boat based stack of +10lb salmon n bonnies on 4lb braid 80cm tailor 6lb braid 6kg mowong 6lb mono The list goes on.... to many to name, i always fish light were i can.
