  1. Anyone ever pulled the level wind off an abu casting with long rods going for distance when it isnt magged-backlashes bad. What Im saying is level winds arnt all bad on casting reels in normal situations, depends on the reel. Reels choice really depends on what you want to use it for, as said. Casting or bottom bashing.
  2. The hole it left in the water was pretty memorable as well. That was the ledge clean up weekend wasnt it?
  3. How have you gone on the LBG gear? Just be careful of the places you fish. I also fish LBG and the rubbish and idiotic behaviour is getting way too many places closed down, and the places that arnt being closed the regulars are getting a bit uptight and making it hard to fish. There are things in play that will hopefully change all that for the better given time and the right support from those in power. Good luck with the LBG. Get any fish?
  4. Bit late on this one, but anyway..... As you saw, dont need a long rod. With that size line, a 10-12ft rod will kill you in no time. Just go for a stroker. If you have access to a zodiac then you are set, no paddling baits out. In calm conditions a small tinnie or even a kayak would be good. As its coming up to westerly time, it might be so flat that you dont even need to and just drift it out with a good size balloon. Dont skimp on the reel or go too small, you will regret. Plenty of good game reels out there. TLDs are good for the money, I prefer the 2 spd as they are a tougher reel. If you are willing to spend more then it opens right up to lots of different brands. I personally rarely use the low gear off the land, so dont stress about making sure you have 2 spd reel Make sure you have something to protect you reel with on the beach, especially if its windy the sand will get through everything. Was packing for a recent trip and hadnt payed much attention after last beach shark session and my TLD was chockers with sand. Midnight strip session was had then (no, the reel!)
  5. Only thing to look at is the newer starlo sticks coming out dont have fuji guides, whereas most other brands out now will come with alconites. I reakon they are a nice rod, and if looking at shimano raider I would go for one of these for not much more $ (if at all)
  6. You dont have to set the datum used in the map or phone do you? A few hundred metres sounds somewhat like wrong datum. Just a suggestion. Do you have to choose the phone model with GPS inbuilt? Mate has an iphone without GPS. This application looks pretty schmick
  7. I wouldnt bother going for a 6000 over an 8000, as its just the spool thats different between. May as well hold more line. The stradic is more of a nice reel than the spheros, but the spheros is pretty tough. Plenty get used for jigging without dramas, seems they punch a bit above their weight. If you wanted spheros tough but maybe a bit nicer you could look at a saragosa, wouldnt be much more $$ than a stradic.
