  1. Yeah it wasn't real dry in my swag , im probably headed up there in 2 weeks , might have to stop being so cheap and shell out for a cabin though. Are you going in the comp at lake Mac next month ? Bubba
  2. If you purchase a telegraphic rod , there is a high chance you will be the next to post on my Busted rod topic , they are extremely week rods , Slinky is right about the travel rods , they are heaps better quality and pack down really well Daiwa do some good ones for the money , Bubba
  3. Rich .....Man that must have really hurt 6 rods in the blink of an eye , wow that takes the cake , just reading that story gave me a sick feeling , it was like when you see somebody get kicked in the groin and even though it didn't happen to you , you still feel the pain. Unlucky man . Ohh and if we ever fish together... im driving ! M[]RGS mate that is a classic ... "Rod Rooter" thats Gold , pure Gold . idolz , Mate busting a silstar power tip , now thats an effort ! Those things are tuff you must have really given it to it ! JewHunter , mate kids arn't allowed in my fishing room I showed you the other weekend , lucky I don't have any , as they could cause some major carnage in there , I shudder to think about it . Roberta Thats pretty harsh, 3 tips in 3 weeks , soon you will have to take up jigging at that rate . DGF Busting a rod on an Eel ,devastating , thats like getting kicked in the guts twice , once for the rod once for the Eel. Crunch , Your Mrs ran over your live fibre , just let her know , once is an accident , twice is divorced . Fishkiller Do you still shop at the same store ? Thanks for all the responses I don't feel so bad now , it seems we all have our moments , Cheers Bubba P.S Would be impressed if anyone can beat Rich's effort ! That was all time .
  4. As the Iceman said 4lb leader is the go. Personally I wouldn't bother with heavier on the flats , you will catch heaps more fish on the weed with light leader ,try a Jackal chubby shallow or atomic do some good cheaper shallow divers with a fat body that cast well , a slightly heavier lure will help get you the extra distance and on the flats I think it gives you a massive advantage to have a reallllly long cast , as to not spook the fish , especially when the water is clear . Good Hunting Bubba
  5. Broke a rod once in a tackle shop when demonstrating it's "Power and flexability" to a customer , 40lb spin stick , just loaded it up a little too much and it went off like a shotgun , didn't get a sale out of that bloke . Now in the last 4 months I have had 2 rods $500 plus each explode on the cast , not the tip but just in front of the stripper guide ,the first was only 4 days old and the last one that broke was casting a sugar pen , not a lot of weight to cast ,unbeleivable . Unlike the first incident in the shop these 2 breaks I doubt were my fault or the result of a knock. So I doubt im the only bloke this has happened to , so are there any raiders out there who can beat my total of 3 busted rods , or any horror stories of new rods exploding ? Would love to hear some stories ? It would help ease my pain . Bubba
  6. When you have been casting for 2 or 3 days in cold weather and you havn't had a hit , you resort to drastic things like a 14lb outfit and 30lb or 40 lb leader , also I was fishing a point with a big weed bed so they didn't have any trees to dust me on , not like my trip to Peter Faust where I got smoked on 50lb braid and 80lb leader over half a dozen times in the sticks and went home with no fish , no photo's and my little heart broken . Bubba P.s. And at Peter Faust my Dad got a 115cm on the last Day . And DONT FORGET , Boil your plastics. Good luck at Monduran mate, hope to see you and Grant at the next club meeting!
  7. We have a vacancy for a new member in the 115cm Club, Who told you about the secret horned helmet you get when you make the 115m club? Will expect to see some photo's before I teach you the secret hand shake ! Hope you smash em up there at Monduran mate , let me know how you go. Will keep a chair warm for you at the next club meeting! When you have been casting all day and not even had a hit , remember last trip. "Sit Down Fat Lady , It's not time to sing !!!" Bubba
  8. When we started fishing on the first day in the first 20 mins I had a hit on a big river to sea KONG those double jointed swimbaits ,they can be swum really slow and just have their back out of the water. Got a hit it was only about 3m from the boat and it exploded took off and straightened the hook , I was using a 3500HD Custom Certate with 50lb braid and a 30lb spin stick with a bit too much drag on. The lure looked awsome in the water but my mates thought they were under attack from incoming mortors everytime it hit the water . Hard to get a soft presentation with a brick . But I hope to get a Barra over 1m on a surface lure one day . Bubba
  9. Thought i'd throw this one in to as the photo of the dolly seem to go down pretty well . Caught this at Awoonga when Jewhunter was unable to make it im sure this got him extra keen as he caught up with us on the following week where he Cracked a beautiful meter plus fish in the dying secounds of the trip . This fish was caught in about 2 to 3 foot of water on a white slick rig on the edge of a weedbed , had been anchored for about 4 hours casting all over a point with my mate Mick Took about 10 mins maybe more I have not been that scared before as the fish jumped within a couple secounds of hookup and it was obviously a trophy fish for me and my light gear and leader worried me but did the job eventually and once I landed it my dad and his mate came over to check it out as well , the capture of a lifetime for me , the only way it could have been better was if it was on a popper . Still very good memory of last year . Bubba
  10. Have rarely used those lures , have half a dozen in the box , I will have to give them a bit more of a crack now you have got me keen to use em . Do you do any good on the bream with them ? or are they more of a flatty lure ? Haven't been fishing in Botany many times but went about 3 weeks ago and had a ball , don't know the names of the places I fished but will get a map and learn a few of these spots . If you see me out on the water come over and say g'day ive got a red skeeter with a white stripe on it and a white E-tec . Bubba
  11. Will be heading down in my boat with a mate and staying at Myola Caravan Park on the 26th 27th March come home sometime sunday 28th. Have had plenty of success on the squid before in JB but has anyone had a crack in JB of late ? Catching any Squid ? Also i am keen to fish some surface lures, blades ,plastis and h\b's , which I havn't done before in JB. Don't need to know your spots or anyhting like that , just keen to know if there are many whiting bream and flatties caught in the bay ? Has anyone caught a Jew in the Bay ? Will get there fri night and fish mainly for squid but would love to know if it's worth hunting some other species . Any info of fellow raiders experiencs in Jervis Bay would be appreciated . Cheers Bubba
  12. Not any really accurate stats as it was not weighed properly , it bottomed out my 50lb scales and I had no length measure , it was about 5'8 to 5'9 long not sure in cm but it was followed up by about 6 or 7 cows that looked a good 10kg each and mate wasn't quick enough to drop a bait or plastic over the side , we were to excited , we just wanted to get him in the boat . Over the years i've caught heaps from 2kg to 7kg but nothing like him before . We were trolling off terrigal and had caught nothing all day until I hooked him . We would have been 500m from a pro trap . Thanks for all the responses , much appreciated, Cheers Bubba Jewhunter Posted 15 March 2010 - 06:07 PM It would have to be a huge bull to have a melon bigger than yours! Top fish mate. Cheers, Grant. That was Gold The only other thing would have been that cod we hooked at Weipa , and it was better looking then me too !!!!
  13. Mate I have a couple some Sugar Pens that are 10cms and they work really well in very windy conditions on the flats and if the fish are actively feeding , Have caught bream that were just legal on them in dead calm water , but in shallows full of bait activity and there were a lot of surface strikes happening in that area . Like the Iceman said he wouldn't throw them if the fish were shy , would have to agree . Bubba
  14. Mate I love blades and use them in syd more then anything else by far , at first I lost a few fish on them after the hookup but have been using a fairly light drag and this seems to help a lot , I have owner hooks on them and if they go for structure i can grab the spool and risk straightening out the hooks to try and turn them around . My theory on the hooks "being thrown" is that they are more often hooked in the face belly side top of the head etc etc then when you use a plastic , you will get most of your fish hooked on plastics hooked in or near the mouth . When a fish swims over to investigate a blade and you lift the lure from the bottom you have a high chance of hooking the fish somewhere in the body face etc with one of the two small trebles . Hope this helps your fishing , tight lines Bubba
  15. Basscatcher Posted Yesterday, 05:32 PM Sounds like a great trip despite the weather and lack of sleep. A good surface session makes everything look good Yeah Mate I'd have to agree , there is something special about cathing them on top! Bubba Jewhunter Posted Yesterday, 06:05 PM Very nice Bubba! Some great looking bream & that flatty was a solid fish. It was great to catch up with you on Sunday arvo. You did look very tired! Nice to meet you as well JBjew. Hell boy looks like an awesome rig. I can't wait to have a fish on her. Well done mate. Cheers, Grant. Was good to see you again mate and I will do my best to get up to the tweed and also to get you on Hellboy so you can give it full noise ! Yeah I was buggered on Sunday when I saw you , very little sleep and plenty of fishing was catching up with me . Bubba Roberta Posted Yesterday, 08:13 PM WOW!!! Awesome looking breambos, Bubba!! Congrats to JB's PB ...... how long & how much did it weigh???? It looks a real thumper! That flattie of yours is brilliant too - all the more so on 4lb line! More details, Please!! Wasn't the weather a PAIN!!?? It bucketted here on Sat for Day 1 of the ABT yak comp - about 6 times! I was sitting in a litre of water all day! The top dried out, but the rear never did! (I was social photographer, didn't enter!) Had fun tho & got some good breambos! Caught up with Max & he said you were practising down there!! Cheers Roberta The Flatty went 75cm approx it was longer then the measure on the net handle , JB'S Bream went 30 to the fork , just a couple mil short , but don't tell anyone ! Was glad to see him starting to pick up some of the techniques, won't be long and he will be smashing them. Bubba Mako Posted Yesterday, 09:24 PM Great report. Well done on getting that nice flattie on 4lb trace. Congrats on the new PB JBjew Yeah was happy to get the flatty on the light stuff as the last 4 or 5 i have had on that size have all rubbed me off , it was good to get my lure back for once. Bubba swordfisherman Posted Yesterday, 05:10 PM Solid fish guys and congrats on your new PB ......JB Cheers Stewy Thanks Mate, hope to get JB into a coouple larger models up at Forster or in Syd Harbour . Cheers Bubba
  16. Caught quite a while ago maybe 4 or 5 years and the photo is only a scan sorry about the quality , caught on the troll it was an awsome fight and a great feed for quite a few people .
  17. On sat and sunday just passed JBjew and I caught quite a few fish flattys and bream mainly but also snapper and flounder it was a good sign as the 2 trips to lake mac prior had been hard work , plenty of the spots we fished looked to be accesible from the land , you might want to jump onto google maps and check out a few bays and points. Wangi boat ramp right up to the point was holding tons of bait and we got a fair few fish , also there were tailor and some bonnies about which were coming in reach of the shore if your casting a metal , or you could try berley up and bring em in closer, Good luck Bubba
  18. Some beautiful backgrounds in those photo's mate looks like a great spot ,[ bar a cyclone!]You would of had a blast on the spin gear with some of those fish .Really good catch of fish there Blood Knot and on some pretty light gear a 2500 reel thats sporting. Well done. Bubba
  19. Some quality fish mate and a bloody good feed to , your reports are making me keen to head out that way in the boat and give it a crack myself soon. Might take my flat mates boat though after reading pmak's reply! Bubba
  20. Great to see your still smacking them on the surface lures Roberta , you must have it down to a fine art by now , and it makes that much harder with quality fish like those that tend to drag you round when your in a yak . Well done . Hate losing lures but especially when it's a proven soldier one with a heap of teeth marks, those lures you always resort to when the going gets tough. Also I hope to see you in one of those yak comps soon you would have a ball I reckon and you have heaps of experience . Keep up those reports it's always good to here whats happening that way. Cheers Bubba
  21. After setting up on Saturday with just our swags and a small table with a sun shade we were getting a little nervous , but sitting there looking out over the water got us keen and we decided it was time to give it a crack anyway .We put in at Wangi aroung 4.30pm and it was looking pretty ugly , gusty winds rain and some pretty nasty looking cloud cover Our commitment paid off when on my First cast I must have laned it on a breams head as I was hit on the drop and then got crunched and ended up with a good bream tearing off through the weed and with JB's help on the net this was the first one to start off our trip . Then the wind calmed off for a few mins so I started throwing a Pencil which after only half a dozen casts ended up with a bream tailgating it, one big hit and a miss so I kept the lure going at speed and then 2 more hits also missing so I paused it and it was demolished finally a hookup and after a good fight ended up with this one Its great to catch any fish in shallow water they just seem to go harder and make it so dam exciting. Now it was JB's turn to get in on the action , pulling into a small bay that the wind was blowing into JB launched his popper across the bay right onto the edge of the weed and sand , he would of only got the lure back a couple meters when multiple fish charged his lure there was at least 3 bow wakes coming up on his lure from 2 behind and 1 from side on , when they hit his lure flew out of the water but he kept twitching and they came stright back on it and he got clobbered again but this time it was a hookup and he did well to hang on with 4ld leader , as he hadn't yet put on the mono leader .Congrats with your new PB and on a popper as well Great work big fella !!!! Not long after this it started to rain pretty hard and I could hardly control the boat in the gusting wind so we headed into Wangi behind the point out of the wind Caught some small bream , JB got rubbed off by a good flatty . There was a lot of fish on the sounder some individual decent fish and lots of bait , tailor or bonnies were out wider and a few blokes were trolling for them we had one zip past the boat like a torpedo chasing small bait so I cast a pencil in front of him and he had a crack at it pushing water everywhere but came off after only a couple seconds . JB then caght a good sized flounder , I finished off with a 27cm snapper and we called it a day . Got back to the campsite to find my swag looking more like a swimming pool Then it rained and rained hard and didn't stop . Was starting to think about building an Ark and collecting some local wildlife as it just didn't stop all night , 46mm of rain . So I found a towel for a pillow and sleept in the car , tried to anyway . Sunday morning we got up headed back out moved around the Lake and found fish on a couple of the shorelines no great concentrations of them but some bream and flattys really made for an for a really enjoyable day . We caught them on blades surface and plastics nothing was a real standout on the day they all worked in different locations . Then JB hooked what looks to be the smallest capture I have ever witnessed on a H\B Then on our way back I saw a rock bar I have never fished and decided to sound around it , picking up heaps of bait and a rough and weedy bottom , out came the blades , it didn't take long and I had a small hit , then another only secounds later , so I paused the lure and gave it a chance to eat it , then it loaded up , a good fish called it for a sloid flatty . With only 4lb fluro between me and him I used light drag and just took my time as he swam around one side of the rock bar out into the open then back towards his home , eventually I got him to the surface and JB slotted him nicely into my way to tiny net , Thanks Mate . Interesting to see the spots we fished Sat that were firing in the bad weather but on sunday we couldn't get a touch and had to fish a lot of shoreline to find our fish . Had a great trip JB thanks for the company and all the tucker , until next time . Bubba
  22. Well done , great pics and story Roberta . You must have a pretty good collection of surface lures from what I keep seeing in these posts . Sounds like you had a ball despite the weather being a bit average. Congrats
  23. Started off with a row boat then a Quintrex 375 Explorer Trophy now i've gone all out and bought a ZX Skeeter , has twin subwoofers ,awsome steryo , I call him Hellboy Cheers Bubba.
  24. Time to cut your credit card up now , before you go to the tackle shop ,or start looking for a spot to hide the gear from the this can get reel expensive , but it's a lotta fun and buy the time your young fella is old enough you will have enough knowledge to show him how to fish and that will be priceless. Good luck with your next trip , Bubba
  25. Mainly i've chased squid there at night and you can get quite a few , but I have fished there off the shore around the bridge as well as the marina's and other shore based spots and caught a few flattys and bream . Wasn't targeting whiting but they would have to be around there as well . If your bait fishing it might pay to berley up and use some salted slimey or some worms if you can get em , otherwise pillies or prawns would a goer and are readily available. Having a crack with a decent sized plastic 100mm or so with a 1\8th or larger jighead is also a good way to get yourself a flatty there. Good Luck, hope you get a feed , Bubba
