Hey Raiders, Yesterday I turned 18! WOOHOO! and i woke up to a very good present. A brand new rod and reel to hit up the new Bass comp! The Reel is an Exceler Plus 2500. it has 7 ball bearings in it, twist buster and something called an 'Air Bail' which dad told me was something to do with the how easy the bail flips... The Rod is Berkley Dropshot Tournament Pro IM7 Graphite! (Its 7'2" long). This rod looks just as good as it sounds! And to top it all off, dad brought me a reel of 6pd Fireline to throw on the spool What a birthday present! I cant wait to try it out!

Hey Raiders, My name is Jack, I am 17 (18 in Sept) and i have been fishing since i could walk My Grandma used to take me down to the end of her wharf and try to catch small bream, pinkys and whiting. After I grew up a little I would go on charter boats and day long fishing trips with my father and caught anything from Kingfish to Flattys to Gropers. As soon as i turned 15 i began bass fishing and this is where my love truly lies. I fish the McClay River in Kempsey, NSW and have competed in many tournaments throughout the years. Last season I managed to win the Under 18s Shimano McClay River Invitational with an over-all score of 2130! My biggest bass being 510mm, second being 470mm... I came 3rd over-all against the opens. Over 100 competitors and 3 pro teams entered. After winning the competition I received my current rod (My other rod is a peice of !@#$) which i am using for my estuary fishing. I have fished the Reefs of Western Australia, coming up with the biggest Red and spangled Emperor i have ever seen. I have fished Montague Island for Kingfish and the Hawksbury for everything under the sun! (haven't quite got there yet! one day pete ) Along with winning the Bass tournament, my fondest memory of fishing was when I was about 14 I went fishing with my dad and his mates on a hire boat. We were fishing in a massive lake down south (Near Narooma) and we were catching everything from bream to flattys all day. My dad decided that instead of fishing for bream and flattys he would set up a monster rig and fish for the 'King of the lake' as he put it. All day he caught nothing using a triple 8/0 gang hook with a big yellowtail on it. Night fall came and we were about to head home when dad couldn't pull his line in... it was stuck. He pulled on it a few times and BANG he was on. 45 minutes later and it was pitch black when the fish got to the surface... I thought it was a bronze whaler at first... it wasn't... it was a flathead. We gaffed the monster flatty and it took 2 guys to pull her in. She was going nuts and after trying to put it in a towel we though it we to dangerous to try and pick it up again so we had to kill it... but with what! We ended up having to pull up the anchor and knock it on the head... 3 times!!!!!!!!!!! Once we got home we measured it against me as we had nothing to weigh it with or measure it with... It was the length of me, and I was 4 foot 8 inches at the time… so it was roughly 140cm. We cut the fish into steaks and it feed all of us! Even though I didn’t catch it, it was a day ill never forget. I don’t own a boat but I will look into getting one after Uni so I can fish more regularly. I live in Newport on the Northern Beaches. I can't get enough of fishing and every chance I get to go, Im there! Cya round Jack a.k.a Bass Master

Great, So what have you decided on?

For flattys try the sand bank as you approach Ettalong wharf (North of Lion Island). My dad and I have pulled some monsters out of there when I was little. Also try off the oyster farms past Brooklyn, they like to sit just off them on the sand. The big sand bank at the back of Refuge Cove is also killer for flatty and alot of whiting tend to head in there at high tide. For tailor, park your boat in the channel inside west head, which is just past Lion Island heading North, and throw lures into the bombora. (Which is the sandbank that has the waves breaking over it) And for Jewies, head down to Flint and Steel (which is a big, well known fishing hole down the Hawkesbery). Wait for the run out tide, catch a couple of live bait and wait =D Hope this helps

Hey pete, Any flatty is a good one for me and yeah i found out the old mans ISP address which made life alot easier. Im dead keen for a fish today if you wanna drag Rey off his arse and head down the beach or off RPA wharf. Give us a buzz or a PM if you want to.

Hey Raiders, I have been thinking about getting a beach rig set up I all ready have a rod and reel for the job... that I grabbed off my dad but i was wondering what sought of set up to use? I was think 30lb mono line, double paternoster set up with gangs and a big star sinker. I have been beach fishing before but only when I was younger so any tips on a set up would be great EG what sinker, knots, hook size. OH! and I live in Newport on the Northern Beaches so if anyone could tell me a good spot that would be much appreciated to Thanks alot Bass Master
