Gidday Dart,I hope that the Ramp is kind to you.The surge can be a real killer when launching and retreiving.I might suggest that you launch in the day light and when heading out head due north for at least 700m ,there is a good bombie that pops up on the unwary as you clear the "bay" there . I do not know how the reef has been recently but I expect that there will be flathead around the wrecks and there should be trevally somewhere out there as well,(thats a bit vague isnt it?). Simon

Gidday Jaso,I use this ramp whenever I fish sydney harbour. It has a few problems as the other guys outlined,be carefull of the surge when launching though. At the bottom of the tide it can get really tricky as the end of the ramp defines the word drop off. When I launch at that stage of the tide I usually slew the trailer to the side where the beach is .Early in the morning is the best time as there is usually a park at the ramp. Simon
  4. Gidday Ross and Glen, thanks for the info,I am curious though as to which stage of the moon is the one that brings the tuna onto feeding?. Ta simon
  5. Well, depending on the weather-I will be out on my mates Bar crusher "Fin and Tonic" out from Botany Bay.Hopefully if the weather is good and the water temperature right we will be going down near the hump to spend the afternoon/early evening cubing for Red things. Simon
  6. I remember a post about this one a while back,I still stand, that the next man or woman to bring a "nana" on board my boat will diiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!
  7. Gidday all,I have identified the next piece of hardware that is going to be bolted onto the crowded decks of "REKLESS".The question is what is suitable for a 14 ft tinny that is easily removable ,and yet able to take on livebaiting bonito ,there is a few out there and I poked my head into OTTO's today and one of the guys reckoned that a Cannon lake troller will handle 90% of what I will be up to. Any pittfalls that I should be aware of?,is it worthwhile to import from bass pro or the like? Suggestions welcomed Simon
  8. The Welding cost around the $1000 mark, there was a few bits and pieces that were "negotiated".It was done by a guy down at kogarah who specialised in sheet fabrication. I had some special additional fabrication work done which included two seats (fold down swivel jobs),and fixed the lack of a bollard on the front .Once the welding job was done I took it to a smash repair place and got the boat painted in two pack, navy out side, white on the inside . I became quite friendly with the guys at Bias at parramatta while I was fitting all the other bits,ie live bait tank, radio, lights, bilge pumps (2) ,GPS,sounders etc etc etc . The boat now weighs about three times what the bare hull weighed. It is however about 6 times better. There was a few things that you may want to take into account. When getting the welding done ,get them to weld a bracket at the back of the boat similar to the ones on the back of the quitrex's to hold the transducer and venturi. The boat handles the weight no problem at all,and top speed is around the 25 km mark which is fine by me,I have it set to plane at 12 km ,this is with me using a throttle extension and two up.Under the floor is stuffed with foam and it is unsinkable.......I reckon simon.
  9. Geez Jackell, I think that you may want to have a look at my little thing cause that is exactly what I made. It's a 3.9m Nomad with 25 hp hi tech two stroke Yamaha, fully welded floor with casting deck up front and down the back, I had an aluminium fabricator do the welding for me and it is rock solid (three years now).To give you a rough idea the platform at the front has a plate welded to the thwart that goes to the bottom edge of the anchor well. The same with the rear,it to is flush with the rear thwart. The floor is supported by ribs that were fabricated and welded to the exisiting frame. There is four hatches using SS piano hinges that hide the two fuel tanks, safety gear and spare anchors etc etc. There is a few photos of the boat in the background /foreground in the brag section with I think a cobia and a small yellowfin. If you want to have a look at the boat that is okay by me,just PM me and I will give you my mobile No. Cheers Simon

    Hello To All

Gidday rzep, I to have a three year old boy that has managed to catch a couple of fish,I do not know the parra that well ,I usually fish in the north harbour area with him and the last time we were out we had a ball catching 40cm slimeys ........on light line, pretty easy to keep the "interest" factor happening with them around. They were very prevalent around the yellow bouy that was halfway between old mans hat and Quarantine. The slimeys have moved on but when the water warms up a little the trevally should make up for it -come on 18+ water!!. Simon
  11. Gidday paggles, yup thats a red morwong all right, not all that common to catch-unless you are a speardiver. The black trevally as Iceman says can give you a real tickle.I learnt about those things when my old man caught one at Port Mac on the wall when I was a kid,I still remember grabbing it and the spines going into BOTH hands ,now as I was eight you tend to dramatise things a little, but they are comparable to being stung by several bull ants at the same time.
  12. Gidday kane,I might suggest that you have a look at some of the ship wrecks down thataway,I did a little research on a few of them and got in to a pretty indepth conversation with a guy called Max Gleeson. He is a wreck diver and I mentioned that I had heard him on "HI TIDE" and was interested in getting the books that he had published on the subject. There is two prominent ones that I have visited ,both with max jonno and we had plans on cubing up snapper over the wrecks,we ended up bagging out on flathead over one and I cant remeber what happened at the other .Anyway he mentioned that he has only really encountered snapper over one of them and that of all the wrecks in the sydney region the only ones that held a good population of fish were both down near where you are fishing. PM me and I will give you some GPS coordinates if you like ,the country is gravel with the only hi point around being the wrecks. Simon
  13. Gidday blue cod , well at least you got to pick up the two fish!!,I am surprised to hear about the fish I saw at clovelly on thursday had dissapeared. That is a shit load of salmon to just up and leave!,you say the fish were just mooching on the surface,do you think that they were actually feeding or are they up to some sort of mass pro creation?. Certainly some of the school i saw seemed to be feeding a bit,but the majority were just cruising. Did you try any fishair flys on them ?ie - No 8 hooks with about four strands hanging off it?. Simon
  14. Hmm,I must have got anxious and put what I am up to in last weeks post . ,I will be taking the wife and my 3yr old son "Rek" out to go fishing for "sharks and snappers" ,probably have a crack at some yakkas and squid at mosman, and I will probably troll some SWF for some salmon around the rocks at middle head. Last time he came out he was the one who caught the only dessent fish of the trip! Simon
  15. The salmon when I left them had one "arm" herding bait into gordons bay. They appeared as a whole to be just milling around doing the "salmon mooching thing". If you are heading out from botany I would just flat maggot it out to long bay and start looking from there.I would bet there would be a school hanging in the eddy that forms up at "Julien". Dont forget your eyes mate. Simon
  16. I was out visiting another restaurant today at Clovelly baths late today and while I was talking to the chef I saw what looked to be a small "riffle" on the water just off the rocks . Hopped in the car and drove to the edge of the car park and there was a shoal (to big for school) of salmon that stretched from there to wedding cake island. The fish were in very close, and I could have quite easily stood on the bonnet of the car and cast to them with a shooting head fly line (within 30ft of the rocks!). There was a total of about five seagulls hovering around but as is typical of the salmon they were "slurping" the bait off the surface and were feeding cleanly. The waves were so low I could have beach launched my boat off the rocks, and the noise from the salmon feeding could be heard inside the car.Talk about twitchy fingers,I was tossing up going to bronte tackle shop and picking up a new spinning outfit. These salmon would be a bitch to spot from sea level at any distance over 300m I reckon (looking towards the shore anyway),so If you intend to go looking I might suggest staying in close and looking ahead or out to sea.The ramp at longbay would have been ideal for a crack at these guys !. Some day I will get a digi camera and start off with a "guess where these were today " post. Simon
  17. 35-40 lb ,bigger then any I have caught
  18. Well I get to go fishing on Saturday, this time i will be taking the Wife and the three year old.Probably just go out from Tunks park and onto the bait reef at Mosman to see if we cant raise up a few yakkas to keep the little one happy.Maybe try for a JD for dad. Simon
  19. I think that the top is around the 353 meter mark ,this is coming up from 500m.There seems to be a few smaller "hills" to the S E about 1 mile away.
  20. Just had a look at the Marlin website and the results of the Sydney Game tournament out from watsons bay.Fishing 15 kg line classs only. The biggest fish was a Mako that weighed in at 206kg by a boat called Everwilling, these guys were at anchor at Browns Mountain. The biggest tuna weighed in at 37.7kg (yellowfin). There were 9 other sharks weighed in and they all averaged at 148 kgs. There was also 60 other sharks tagged and they were estimated around 100kgs each. Thats adds up to a lot of pissed off Makos cruising around out there.-Dont go swimming for a little while I think. Simon
  21. Were the Bushes Blonde or Brunette?,and which beach were the bushes on?
  22. Nice catch, nice boat I've got's to ask though, why would Queenslanders bother coming down here to fish in our cold, fish denuded ,neck of the woods?.Or did you guys get lost on the way to the GBR?, . I would have thought that having a crack at Golden,Giant ,Diamond or Great trevally would have been more thrilling then some of sydneys "Blurters".I am not having a go at you guys at all, just questioning the reason. Simon
  23. Good to see all you guys got out on such a great day, judging by the conditions I might have stood a half whisker of a chance of getting the wife and the three year old out there!!. It makes for a good yarn ,well done to all you paticipants!. Simon
  24. If you check out the last "afloat " magazine ,you will see some pictures of a yacht on the rocks up near the Tweed river. I was taught how to sail on that boat about 15 years ago.My old man had it for about 5 years and I had some very memorable times on that boat.It is very hard seeing something like that happen. Is there any members up in Qld who can shed some light as to how it happened?. Cheers Simon
  25. Hi sea jay, as far as the gear goes ,the guys have all suggested the Shimano gear which really is the way to go.The Baitrunner in the 6500 size is a good reel and can handle line around the 8kg class really well.As far as the over head goes I reckon that a TLD 25 is the way to go,it can handle 15kg line quite comfortably .The nice thing about it is that it is damn simple to pull apart and service your self.I used to work for ABU years ago and can only say that level winds really wind me up,they are the classic weak points and when you have that overun as you will soon find out that they make excellant finger jammers as well!!. I would do a little shopping around for the out fits ,I might suggest that you look at the solid tip silstar rods if you are budget minded ,they can handle as much abuse as any ugly stick can ,but at a considerabley cheaper price. Cheers Simon
