  1. It might have some thing to do with the dredge making a mess still . It looked on saturday dirtier than I have seen it . I ended up with a flounder & a couple of flatties & that was I DR around the bay & up & back to Maroubra . Not even a bonnie . There were on the sounder some big schools out there but most seemed to be Sweep Hornets
  2. Any pictures of your mate in the water . That would be a catch
  3. Good looking boat . Can you tell me what it is & what donk it has . Always keen to hear about new rigs . Hornets
  4. Great day there . If only I can have just one of those this year or this life I would die a happy man . Enjoy that holiday as they go too fast . Hornets
  5. You have got to love Fiji . I reckon you got your monies worth there . Where did you head out from & do you mind me asking his charges . Hornets
  6. Went out yesterday & couldnt get one squid in the bay but managed to get good supply of yakkas . Went out for a troll to see if any stripeys , but none & with that mist went back to the north bay head where there were a few boats so I outed the downrigger & went for a few runs back & forward north to south for my friends first rat 60cm then got 6 more all from the same school . We then picked up on diver the biggest sambo I have caught or seen before just over 60cm , what a horse & even a couple of jumps as well . I got onto just as I threw it back the rigger went off , finally some thing good , odd but it ran like a tuna & in only 11m I wound up the drag on the tyrnos 30 . As I got it to 3m away I got a glipse & it looked like a yellowfin I thought at first but it must not have been so close in so it must have been a king the hook pull & I will never know . We achored up just to the north & cubed a couple of stripey fillets from last year . What fun you have catching rats on little spin rods & 10m of water , we did it for the next hour still not getting one legal ,that why not one photo , but my friend did manage a nice 33cm bream .At least we got into something .
  7. Thanks all ,I will stay in close for another month
  8. has anyone sited any dollies yet as I want to get out hopefully soon as i can see the temp getting better
  9. I agree that I would buy U.S before here . I brought a scottys strong arm 1085 for all up $350 Aus with a bomb last year when dollar was 90 cents . Do you home work on if it will mount on your boat & where
  10. That is at the mainland & the large port where all the charters come in & out of so you should be able to get onto a boat fairly easy . All depends on the budget of course . I took 2 telescopics and some different lures as well . Probably took to much tackle , but is there such a thing . Look forward on hearing of you adventure .
  11. Dan where are you heading to at Fiji . Adam
  12. Just got back on the weekend from Fiji for 14 days . The resort was great with the kids having dinner at 600 & going to kids club to 900pm every night so we got plenty of time to relax . The Aus dollar at the moment is great as when we got home to pay the credit card it was half of the amount which makes it great . Now the important stuff , the fishing . For those who want to get out for serious game it is fiji $200 an hour for the game boat they use . I went with the local boat at night or morning on the reef For fj$35 for 2 hours . I only caught a small cod & there are 5 others on board . The next option was the book out the whole boat for fj$250 which will take you to do whatever you want to do , for me trolling. I took my fresh braided 50lb Okuma 80 with a shimano telescopic eclipse 2.4m ,6-8kg rod for a try , straight in the suit case with also a 2.1 m 5-6kg on my Daiwa 2000 with 10lb braid . I was told by my guide the day before I got there he pull in on handline a 25 kg spaniard so I had a thought that if the rod broke I could man handle something in . We had 3hrs on the boat as they like to get an early start at 6am - 9am . The weather was mostly windy through the day but the day we went out it was only 10knts . After the first hr we had zip & I changed from my 190 halco diver back to 100 halco rattler & within 2 mins hooked up on a barracuda . At this stage I thought at least it was somthing . I put that same lure out & also a small popper & as we we going past reef the action on the popper was unbelievable but no hook ups . I changed back to the 190 to head back past a big reef where some turns were working , With 2km to go the big one goes off zzzzzz. The local give a quick turnaround & I chase back some line . The rod did really well as I gave it to it to see how it handled . I the end I pulled in a 10 kg spanish mackeral . I gave it with the lure to Wati who giuded me & all round picked up two fish I havent caught before . Adam
  13. You were the first boat I saw after a 2 week stay at Fiji. I saw the rig & thought that you probably went out wide . I cant wait to get mine out again . Not that far out but. Just to the 12 mile . What is the temp at the moment out there .
  14. If you are going out I always go near shark island as there is plenty of weed & structure & if not there just north east you will find 3 buoys & around there burley bread & bait jig for yakkas . Sometimes you will find squid around there . Good Luck !!!
  15. The best fish I have had raw . A friend is a Japanese chef & he has put me onto a new sauce , Ponzo from asian supermarket based on comquat which is citrus. A lot of people dont eat Stripeys but my kids love them raw but wont eat them if I cook them . It is good finally to see them back as they are great fun on light gear . Adam
