  1. Nathan, Im pretty sure i was out there with you at the FAD closer to BB. There were only another 2 other boats there that morning (i love fishing on weekdays) The dollies were being very picky and it seems like the big ones would only eat live bait. I have to agree with you it was beautiful conditions out there.
  2. Mate, thats a hectic catch. What baits were you using? Good to see the bream still hanging around the bay. Tasty catch.
  3. The one caught was from Tyrnos 12 with 50lb braid/80lb leader. Still couldnt stop some of those heavies from reefing me. My mistake was having the drag set too light and giving them the chance to run.
  4. After reading about everyone catching kingys in Sydney harbour i decided to join in on the action. Went to my usual spots to get some bait and ended up with 1 squid and half dozen yakkas. Cut a long story short ... fished near quarantine and had few hits and misses. kept getting busted off or reefed on 30lb braid/50lb leader so had to switch to 50lb braid/80lb leader. There were some monsters out there but just couldnt boat them. Eventually landed a 70cm king on the boat which took a live yellowtail. The wind picked up by 10am and it was too hard to drift coz i was getting blown into the cliffs so moved to south head where it was very quiet, decided to call it a day and went home with a feed.
  5. hey mate... thats a good feed you got there. Good to know the bream are still hanging around in Botany. Might have another good month or two before they move on.
  6. Hi Sammy Tide was running in so the water clarity was ok but prob still a little too murky for kings. I thought i got snagged at first when i hooked the PJ it fought like heavy boot.
  7. Just a quick report on Botany Bay. Went out wed morning at 6am. Live baited a yakka at the breakwall for king but no takers. Caught this port jackson? shark instead There were some tailor about but mostly small. Had a run from a decent salmon from my floated pillie but lost it near the boat when my line tangled and snapped off. Anyway, went down near kurnell and caught these ones in the picture. Not a bad day in the bay. Cheers Dangas
  8. Damm, You guys really have the formula for jew success. Which waterway are you fishing from? BB or hawkesbury or SH?
  9. Nice catch guys, sounds like you had fun. Thats plenty of fish to feed 4 guys
  10. Well at least now i dont feel too bad for striking out because im not the only one. I guess BB fishos just need to either target other species such as bream and flatties or go to a different waterway for kings. At least until the water quality gets better.
  11. The problem with keping them in nutella jar like that is the colours will leak onto each other. But otherwise a good and cheap idea.
  12. Hi Dom there are plenty of weedbeds mixed with sand in yarra bay and ive caught flatheads, squid and tailor from there. You could float pilchard fillets out on ganged hooks for tailor, or use a bottom rig for flathead. People sometime catch squid of the breakwall on the western side where you can find a small reef and also on the eastern side. you could walk along the beach and keep casting and until you find good spot.
  13. Hi All Launched the boat off at Foreshore rd ramp at 6am and went to get livies straight away with the plan to target kingfish. Anchored up in Yarra bay and got a a few perfect sized yakkas. Next caught a few squid near drums and was ready to chase a few kingfish. I noticed the water was very dirty in the bay with a lot of crap just floating around and it looked very muddy. I tried all the usual kingy spots and my baits werent even getting a touch. Decided to downrigg a live yakka and troll around the bay with no result. Water inside the bay was way too dirty so went out towards the mouth of bay but the swells made the conditions too dangerous for my tinny so i decided to go back to the ramp with a donut. Very dissapointing day. Why was the water so dirty??? Anyway saw a couple of guys back at the ramp who cleaned up on flatheads... made me wish i had bought along the SP's. Has anyone else been catching kingys in the bay lately, ive noticed a lack of reports from here
  14. i always have that problem, and it stinks too. thats why ive started to use squidgies
  15. I dont think there is a one best lure for fishing but rather different lures that are good for different situations. I find the Halco 20gm twisty metal deadly on tailors and i dont use poppers much as ive never had much success with them. Ive caught more tailors on metals than anything else, and i have more success with SP's than poppers. In regards to lures, there is a saying that goes "its better to use a crap lure where there is fish than use the best lure where there is no fish"
  16. Good stuff mate. You gotta be happy with that. Did you catch the kingies downrigging?
  17. yeh i thought it was a tarwhine but wasnt sure. I know the legal size is 20cm but didnt keep em unless they were 25cm incase they were bream and not tarwhine. They look so similiar.
  18. Hi All Went out to Wooloware bay on the high tide at 6am to fish the oyster racks , caught a few bream and whiting with blade lure but mostly undersized. Started to slow as the tide changed so moved out to moored boats nearby and caught heaps of smaller bream and pinkies with peeled prawns. Soon ran out of prawns so we had to pull into the bait store near tom uglies bridge to get more prawns. By now it was nearing 11am and the sun was beaming down. We decided to go Towra point for flatties and got nothing. So did a drift down towra channel the it all started happening. Non stop action for about hour catching heaps of bream, whiting and snapper on the run out tide. Here are some of the keepers
  19. you could sashimi a decent sized one and itll taste great with soy and wasabi
  20. Hi Reggie It looks like a bonito, ive caught many of them in the bay
  21. congrats on the new boat ... she looks real good. im sure you will have many more great days out fishing on her.
  22. i was once trolling with two rods in botany bay when the first rod got struck. the rod holder was not secured and caused the rod to fly out into the water. I quickly tried to reach out and grab it but it was long gone. After cursing to myself for a few seconds due to the loss of my favourite the second rod goes off and luckily this holder secured properly. As i started to wind in i noticed that there was my first rod that had dropped in the water and a bonito attached to the line. Needless to say i was very happy to have both.
  23. Hi Lumpookey i hook in in the back behind the head like in diagram third from top. i Hook through the nose if trolling or fast running current. i use size 5 gamakatsu hook octopus style and attach 2m of 60lb leader (Jinkai) to large swivel with size 10 ball sinker above. This holds the yakka down at desired depth while letting it swim around freely. Also prevents the yakka from swimming around other lines that may be out at the same time and causing tangles.
  24. Thanks for the help guys. I guess "middle of the bay" refers to many areas.
  25. Happy new Year Raiders Ive been hearing people talk of the "middle of the bay" in botany as a good place to catch some bream. Also stated in books and various fishing guides, but the bay bay is quite a large place and middle of the bay can be anywhere in Botany's large expanse of water. Can somebody please shed some light on how to get there or where people refer to when they say the "middle of the bay" Any help with this is much appreciated
