    Your Choice

personal opinion..... i would take the haines v17c any day. handle well. good stable boat, exceptionally well built. only point to note is being a half cabin, they tend to be bum heavy so if its got a big outboard, make sure you load the gear up the front. finally, tilt and trim is imperative on these boats so you can alter due to the conditions. i think they are weel priced and whilst not as popular as aluminium hulls, it should give you many years of action if it is/ and has been well looked after. hope that helps. cheers
  2. hi all, woke up at the crack of dawn all enthusiastic. checked the BOM weather site for the forecast..showers. oh well thought the kids and i would wait for an hour or so to see what happens. by 8am still no rain so i thought bugger it, lets get out there... as we launched the boat the first spots appeared, oh well at least its only light i thought. five minutes underway, down it came....... we tried a few spots and only managed a small blue swimmer which was sent back on its way. two hours later and soaking wet we all arrived back home. the kids had fun and even managed to go for a swim.(already had small genitalia).... commenced the usual washdown of the vessel and lo and behold the rains stops and out comes the sun.... perhaps i should have just stayed in bed....... oh well shall try again tomorrow..
  3. i remember from years ago, if you fish on the tea gardens side of the port stevens channel. the best spot is to get amongst the oyster leases and mangroves for bream. fish with light gear and if possible use fresh prawns. cant remember the best tides to fish but i always caught several good size fish in about 1 - 2ft of water in about 15 minutes. it can be snaggy but it is worth the effort, hence the no sinkers helps. give it a try and let us know how you go. cheers mick
  4. perhaps all us recreational anglers should tell ronald that we will boycott purchasing fishing licences. i thought we bought licences to stop this stuff happening. if the govt. changes the rules then as far as i am concerned the contract regarding fishing licences is null and void. if they cant ban the commercial fishers then we shouldnt have to pay to use the bloody ocean.....
  5. ken, after reading through this..... what a great idea!!! you guys have so much to offer to novices like myself and others and i have enjoyed reading all your posts and articles etc. this topic has become rather out of character with the whole fishraider theme i feel. after the first page of threads it just goes round in circles of he said she said etc. lets get back to basics and why we are all here. we love fishing.... just my thoughts. mick
  6. holy moley!! i would love to catch one that big. how long did it take to land? thanks for posting the pic. my kids got excited looking at it. as did i. happy fishing cheers
  7. thanks Ben for your offer. i have decided to ditch the wobblers and go for the retreiver mate system. it is nice for all the assistance and offers of help i have received. many thanks to you all
  8. mate, it was erina creek up at gosford. i guess it is a sign of the times. i have been going there for near thirty years now and this is the first time i have encountered anything like this. people have no respect for other persons property.
  9. took my 2.5 yr old today for a spot of fishing. got back to the boat ramp this afternoon, low and behold some lame dog arse has stolen the wobble rollars off my trailer. i cant believe some low live would do this. i hope they are happy with themselves as i now have to fork out $240 for new ones. i hope their boat sinks. assholes.......... if i find then i will sink their boat myself. lucky i had installed a padlock onto the trailer else the whole kit and cabbodle might have been gone. i am just so pissed off.

    Seasickness

i sympathise with the sea sickness ones. i last went to sea with my old man about 15yrs ago. lasted five minutes before berleying up the ocean. after that i think it was a mental approach. i think if you have a bad experience with sea sickness then it is always in the back of your mind every time you go near the big blue yonder. funny thing is i have surfed for 25yrs and havent been sea sick once. hmmmm! work that out. i think it relates to keeping busy, dont put your head down and find a happy place.... i am still yet to venture out into open waters though. time will tell... cheers
  11. howdy all, this is my first post after being an avid reader of all the forums in the past 6 months. i decided to register so i could read, reply, and simply ask you guys questions if needed. anyhow, i have been fishing the brisbane water area for many years now, i must say that it is the cleanest i have seen in many years. my main haunts are paddys channel and woy woy bay, but i was hoping some of you might be better experienced to perhaps suggest some more productive and less populated locations. i dont intend to go out to sea as yet due to my 4 yr old son being with me (teaching him the joys of fishing like my old man did to me). Anyway, love the site and enjoy the yarns, good for a laugh at the end a hard working day. hope to catch some big ones soon.... regards and thanks for your assistance.
