  1. We were out saturday afternoon for an overnighter. Took the kids out and anchored over near Gosford train bridge. Evening was pretty quiet with not much other than the odd blue swimmer crab that i couldnt get into the net due to bad light. Sunday morning we awake to a chilly morning and calm water. Threw out the lines and finally hooked onto a runner. Once netted and on board and after a bit if head scratching decided we had caught a 59cm Salmon.... unusual being so far up an estuary, anyhow i have yet to decide how i am going to cook considering their reputation as a strong flavoured fish. water temp is around 17 - 18 degrees which is a little chilly considering the 22 odd a week or so ago. probably explains why the big fish were off the bite. Anyhow, its nice to hear from fellow Brisbane Water fishos and if we can share our experiences we can all learn a thing to two.. Cheers for the post and might see you out and about some time. Regards Mick
  2. When you have put the boat away after a day out, make sure the motor is not tilted up. try to get it vertical (straight up and down) and keep it that way till you are ready to head out again. Dont leave your battery terminals connected, if you dont have an isolation switch at least take off the negative terminal to the battery. Will stop your electrics growing yucky powder goo which is caustic!. take out your bungs to let your hull dry out. Vacumn your carpet when its dry to keep it in good shape. keep your outboard out of the sun where possible, buy a cover for it, it will help keep the paint in good shape which will help at resale time. spray your cover with inox also, it wont hurt your paint and stops the salt drying out your seals. afterall would you buy a two year old motor that has paint like a chalkboard? finally, when you are retriving your boat on a windy day, hook a rope around the stern cleat facing the wind, you can then tug on the rope to help pull the boat while winching to keep it nice and straight... thats all i can think of at the moment. Cheers Mick
  3. How well do you know the waterways where you fish? if you are confident with your knowledge then you wouldnt need a chartplotter and all the fancy bits. a simple sounder would suffice. if you are going to venture into the unknown, yes they can assist but you shouldnt rely on these as your eyes. i know a lot of car nav systems show roads that arent formed and i remember a court case where two oldies were driving purely from the nav system. if they had have been watching the road instead of the Nav system they would have seem the large dam they were about to drive in which was supposedly in the middle of a road that was never built but the Nav didnt know that. technology aint perfect and should be used as a guide only. as it turned out, they argued that the device was advertised as a car navigation guidance system and won the case even though they were idiots.... 4. Yes at some stage you are going to have to try and sell before you go o/s. the only point with boating is being able to get to spots you cant get land based. if your craft limits that, might as well buy some good land based gear instead. ultimately its your choice so i will leave that decision to you. cheers Mick

    Engine Woes

Just a thought... Check that your fuel hose is solid and not sucking air. insufficient fuel delivery will stave the engine of fuel running it lean which might be a source of the problem.... i had an old 70hp evinrude that had a poor fuel line connection. when throttle applied fuel bulb would suck in till almost flat.. i would recommend taking it to Huey as they have the resources to test the engine under normal operating conditions to determine the cause. Have it done before other problems occur from this such as overheating or worse, seizing.... Cheers Mick
  6. i think its your impeller.... Motor is 5 years old and impeller should be replaced anually regardless of the hours... I had a similar experience a few months ago and that was exactly what happened. I think the Yammy ones are a bit softer and more prone to perish.. Cheers Mick
  7. sounds like the fuse is blown. take off the cowling. there should be a fuse somewhere hidden in there. i too have made this mistake. change the fuse.... All good.
  8. Gidday Raiders, i was after a bit of a guide for a cost to take a 70hp off my existing boat and have it put onto my other larger boat. i have all the cables for the control box and steering cable which are long enough without any modifications. from what i have measured, it should be a case of taking the motor off the old boat and fit onto my new boat. i have even checked transom mounting hole size and location which are the same for both boats. now i thought about doing it myself but we live on a steep hill and our driveway isnt friendly either for this type of thing. therefore i think i should get a marine place to do the work instead. My query is what should it roughly cost to swap motors based on the above? Thanks in advance. Cheers Mick
  9. I will keep my eye out for it..... man that sucks, is really gives me the s 's that people stoop so low to flog anothers pride and joy. i hope it is found and they catch the that flogged it. i hope karma is listening!!!

  13. i once had a problem with an older outboard that sounds similar to yours. when i cranked up the throttle.. Nothing!!! turns out one of the little plastic clips on the carby cables had slipped off the linkage so only one cylinder was working. once clipped back on away she flew. hope it is something simple like that for you... worth checking out perhaps. Cheers Mick Outboards... great when they work but can be the most time consuming source of frustration when they dont...

  25. At least you were lucky enough to catch something!! i took the kids out today and didnt even get a bite.... it is quite frustrating lately as the fish seem to either be sleeping or completely disinterested. a few blue swimmers around though but they were all girls so they got sent back to the depths to do their bit for the population. Any how, nice little bream and i am sure your young bloke is stoked! Cheers Mick
