I used to play soccer there and used to see mullet in between the fields af high tide. Low tide the water is about 1 foot deep so you wont get too much. The bottom is very muddy in the whole bay.
Hello raiders. I am heading up to fingal bay this week. quick question. can you walk out to fingal island across the spit and fish off the island. someone told me there is a marine park there and someone else told me its fine. i cant find anything online saying you cant fish there. does anybody know for sure?
keep it minimal. about a 1/0 hook and some cunje, prawn or bread bait. stick a small split shot on if the water is a bit rough otherwise let the bait drift down slowly. fish wherever there are cunje beds and you should be sweet. berley up.
Dont put the rod in a holder. You may wait a while but when they hit they hit hard and the fight will be over in seconds if you are under strength with your gear too. I use unweighted large banana prawns and crabs and add a small sinker if required to hold bottom
get a dexter russell. they use them at the fish markets. i bought mine from my local fish shop for 25 bucks. they are not stainless but are easy to sharpen over and over. stainless stay sharp for a lot longer but once they dull they are never as sharp as when you start with them
I will give it a crack and see what happens. Are all circle hooks the same? I went today and i thought the circle hooks would all be the same but there seems to be different angles in the circles?
Best bait for bream and whiting is beach worms. Try using the star sinkers to anchor ur bait using paternoster rig. Good luck getting worms though its an absolute......
Quick question to the infinately smarter fishos out there. I am landbased fishing for squid off the rocks. Will burley help to attract the squid and what do you use? I use squid jigs but it is a bit hit and miss.
I wouldnt do it at all. Concentrate ur times around dusk and dawn. Give urself extra time if u want but i wouldnt go through the night. Ive tried in a spot i have fished many times and the weather turned real bad real quick and spent 6 hours wet and cold waiting for some light to get out of there. Ask urself how much better is the fishing going to be at midnite than at dawn or dusk which are generally prime times? Its not just the waves you have to worry about but ur footing as well. U lose alot of depth perception in low light as well.
Was fishing tonite for Jew off my local beach. Hooked up and felt plenty of weight and headshakes and a short run followed for 10 or 20 meters. Then the line went slack and i thought i lost it. Began reeling in and realised it was till hooked but swimming towards me. It swam in at a rate of knots because i couldnt keep the tension in the line. Ended up losing the fish as it spat the hooks as the line was slack. Any ideas what it might have been? I was fishing with squid heads with 30lb main line and 8/o hooks. Ive never had a fish come back towards me in a straight line before
