  1. ive always wondered how to even make the sinkers with the moulds ive seen the moulds everywhere but im clueless as they are 2 piece so hows that work ? wouldnt the lead leak as you attach each side together :/ maybe i should go on youtube :P

  2. i caught a king on the weekend with a dead yakka :) under a float from the avoca got hit in less than 15 minutes of caSting it in and to be honest they hold much better reason i used it was because my pilchards were annoying me by disolving before i even casted was a good thing i had foul hooked 4 yakkas :)

ive also used them butterflied for kings and jews

  3. just get some cheap $5 10-12lb line from a local tackle shop that has em in those bargain bin things ive used them more than once on smaller outfits or for hand line etc.. do the job and will still land you a fair amount of fish however once you get into the serious fishing is when price & quality really matter eg: latest purchase's Ugly stik black tiger jigging rod (scored this cheap) $100 my reel penn slammer ( i use this reel for 2 dif rods :P ) $180.00 and braid another $100.00 ( this setup is basicaly for jigging kings and possibly dollies)

but i been fishing for as far as i can remember however when started getting my own stuff together (would of been 15/16yrs old) i got a cheap $40 daiwa combo from bigW :) i landed a fair few fish on that even a massive sting ray and a huge EEL which ended up breaking my rod :(

Point is Cheap aint so bad as most think but dont expect it to last long

  4. Well done mate those bonito put up a good fight! That Ledge at avoca gets so crowded it gets beyond a joke. North Avoca has way less ppl and just about the same amount of fish caught

How big was the swell today?

well today i was getting showered well more like bathed it pretty much came up and hit me in the face to say the least i can confirm one thing thewater is fairly salty as alot went in my mouth :P

  5. Hey guys woke up saturday looked at the weather outside and said im gonna head out to avoca and give it a try.

left home 10:30 picked up mate got to avoca around 1:30 ( kept wanting to stop for food + need fuel ) anyway got out there and it was PACKED with people first time i ever went down there, started fishing for few hours with only yakkas getting foul hooked on my gang hooks, people everywhere were all pulling in bonito and only reason i wanted to get out there was to try my luck on a bonito anyway my pilchards kept getting hammered by yakkas then eventually they got so bad in the head that they were just falling apart on the cast, so i chucked a yakka that got caught through its guts put it out under the float within 10 minutes scored a kingfish was only small rat but i at least caught somthing :)

Sunday/today said ok i wanna head off to avoca again and try catch a bonito this time another mate picked me up n left my house from 10am got there around 11:30 and the swell was INSANE but decided to give it a go anyway trying and trying with pilchards, other people kept getting bonnies on people but i had 0 luck then RayR was out having a chat with my mate and got to talking :) great bloke, and he suggested i give my mack bait another go spinning on the spinning ledge so i soon did and within 10 minutes i had caught my first ever Bonito :D was 47cm great little fish and enjoyed catching it.

prepared my bonny as Ray was telling me earlier when i got home i cut her up into some loins and dipped into some seasame oil and flour and grilled it on the hotplate and boy did it taste good:D

P.S Thanks RayR for the advice :D and pointing me in the right direction for my first ever bonny :D

    Regards

    Aaron

  6. looks like you found the kings :P i trolled out the heads with the downrigger i got one hit going south from the head down that channel off kernell but lost the whole rig seems to have just chomped straight through the line.

i think i tried almost everywhere but the runway on aussieday go figure haha

  7. chipping norton lake used to be a good spot to pump the squirt worms dunno about now i hear you can get them all up the far reaches of georges river on any nice little sand patch that seems untouched probably better by boat or kayak in some places.

but you can try your luck at chipping norton lakes walk in the water upto about your waist and you should be able to get a few but there some places that sell these but from what ive been told its illegal to sell these worms so .......

  8. lol i was kinda freaking out the other day when i seen so many small boats around the 3k mark off shore my boat handled it fine out there thus why i wanna try out the FAD near botany :) i wouldnt mind trying my luck on some Mahi Mahi

  9. ive seen alot of people using "squirt worms" / wrigglers they pump from georges river and from what ive seen they clean up on whiting n bream with them ive tried them few times and was pretty impressed usually just use a decent sized long shank hook on a light sinker sometimes also use a red bead or red tubing above the hook which is suposed to attract whiting (cannot confirm this as ive caught both with and without) fresh big prawns whole work well too

  10. yeh ive so far been about 2-3km out in my boat was suprised to see alot of smaller boats out there as well, i do have an EPIRB on board my boat however i think i must invest in a 2way marine radio as well a GR100 just wont cut it in an emergancy
