  1. Hi

Went out with my son (Report when I find out how to get the pics from my phone to the computer) on Sunday

We caught 2 Bonitos. I did read that they do not make good eating fish (Australian Fishing companion)

So I was wondering which table species is the most likely to hit on a tuna fillet Stripe?

Flathead? Snapper? Kingy - I would eat king- ? Salmon - Did eat salmon - ?

Please tell me also how to rig and how to pass the hook through the hook.

    Thankalot already

They are awesome eating as long as you prepare it the right way soon as you catch bonnies i suggest you bleed them and put them on ice till you get home and fillet them.

bit of flour salt pepper etc.. and fry em up they are beautiful eating

personally i put em in a bit of seasame oil then put flour and fry em up in chilli/seasame oil with a dash of olive oil mixed together :)

bit of lemon over the top when cooked

  2. hmm thanks for all that info roberta im going to give it a try agian this weekend :) as i just started with top water pencils for bream using the rod i usually use for SP's unfortunatly i dont have a kayak though :P so most of my fishing is done from my boat or shore based but i think this weekend i might just take my smaller boat to botany bay and give it a go near the oyster lease at towra :)

  3. Woke up yesturday and saw a break in the rain so asked the :wife:mrs if she wanted to come with me for a fish so we headed over to my fav tackle store to pick up some stuff as i wanted to try fishing for bream on lures got some nice lil pencil lures that looked a treat headed over to tom uglys bridge first for a bit of a mess around tide was wayyyy too low so i suggested we try somewhere else after about 1.5hrs of checking out dif spots i decided to head back to picnic point armed with live worms and fresh prawns ( as my wife is fairly new to fishing ) so i was flicking out lures unfortunatly no decent weed beds around picnic point area but was good enough for bait fishn about soon as we get there it starts raining again my wife says oh well lil rain aint gonna hurt i thought SWEET! 20 minutes in i tell my wife to switch over from the prawns to the worms and feels a bite almost straight away i tell her to yank and it pulls from the fishs mouth so she rebaits i cast it in for her and once again almost instantly another bite so i set the hook and pass it to her (knowing the fish is on, but not telling her :P) she got all excited when she felt the fish on shes reeling it in and her drag starts to fly off n im thinking to my self wtf did i just give to her haha, after a small fight she brings up a nice fat 36cm whiting the hook was too far down its mouth so i kept that one :( i wanted to release but oh well, after that i landed a MASSIVE 19cm whiting and a 12cm flathead (my hook was bigger than the flathead and it had swalled it whole done my best to pull it out without killing it) ........ wow did i feel like crap :P outfished by my mrs

  4. Common rickster have a bit more faith in us! By the sounds of things I should ditch my blackfish setup and bring my tiagra50 and get it spooled with wire trace....let's see who wins then! Might be heading out today to try one of your hotspots, wish me luck!

    Daniel

let us know how you go :)

  5. although they may not pull like a gt, the are pound for pound tougher than any king or big trev we have down here and do pull very very hard....we had locked drag on a variety of different lines one day to try get 'em up when we spotted them, locked drag or runnin no one stood a chance, in my opinion its easier to catch a kingy than a surgeon

try some hand line ivan :P itll drag to the bone lol

  6. Hey guys i bought my boat few months ago the gauges dont seem to work except the RPM gauge, now recently ive lifted the floor to check ym fuel tank as i wanted the fuel gauge to work as its the most important to me now to my suprise there was no wiring at all to it and the sender unit well didnt look too good, does anyone know of a mobile marine electrician or somone who can fix up my gauges without having to bring it there ?

  7. Rippler rod and expedition might have a chance then :biggrin2:

They are only small fish and I reckon if guys are getting em on little blackie rods ,I will have no worries and I will be using pan hooks in size 6 as recommended by Nanook.

Just lean back and enjoy the ride :1yikes:

    Cheers Stewy

get some water ski's :P they are usually small but the ones i caught wouldnt fit in the bucket lol the smallest one just fit in with the height of them being wider than the bucket and the tails were still sticking out was a 10litre bucket :P

damn now i feel like going fishing :(

  8. Oh I have the right artillery for them.

Certate 4000 with 20lb braid and a steelhead graphite blackfish stick that will haul their butts out and I wont be using silly 2kg traces either :074:

    Cheers Stewy

ive seen them bust 60lb mono :P id be using my 65lb braid on them :) with 100lb wire trace see if they can take that hahah

  9. I can't believe the number of maniacs that have PM'd me for details on spots in the harbour to chase surgeons.

To hazza, vietgod, cephalod, woodchop and smitty, you guys have my deepest sympathy  I have emailed you all the same 2 "hotspots", maybe you can get in contact with each other and arrange a trip. My mate Steve and I will join you, though as he suggested, we won't actually be fishing, we'll be the ones selling the floats and laughing ourselves silly at the number of bust-ups. A lot of fishos probably aren't aware of the surgeons power and speed on those initial runs but it can be quite amazing.

get into it boys and enjoy!

haha i know the power my fingers still have scars from catching them on 60lb handline and they were each 60+cm and weighed more than 1.5kg each i landed 4 of them before i just couldnt take the slices in my fingers :P i should try a heavy boat rod next time hahah

this was at pier 2 in the harbour :P
