  1. Try using a heavy ish ball sinker and hang the bait so it not touching the bottom.. Or as said above use a float. With the float set it up so the line runs free thru it and using another bit of fishing line make a stopper by tying it up on the main line. Make it tight enuf so it will only slide if u want it to.. Then just set it to the depth u want the livey to drop to, still use a bit of weight tho to stop it wanting to keep swimming to the surface.. Hope i made sense explaining that lol
  2. I remember reading a story many years ago in a fishing mag so i wouldnt know if its true but, It went something like this. A young guy visiting a relo in a nursing home befriended an elderly old chap in a wheel chair who would often tallk for hours about his fishing adventures and iin particular the many huge mullaway he had caught. Eventualy the young guy decided he was gunna give the old bloke another crack at doing what he loved and missed. They picked a night and went to a local breakwall on the mid north coast and set him up on a flat rock close to the water with his gear and some decent sized mullet for bait. Anyway it turned out some time he did hook up on a mofo jew only to have his old penn reel birds nest and drag him into the drink.... Heap of screaming and pannic as he flowed along in the darkwater towards the ocean a smart guy near the end of the breakwall ended up using a long handled gaff to catch him before he was gone for ever lol. Sore leg but still alive
  3. While recently fishing Sydney Heads for Kingfish and being a popular spot I was in eyeshot of all the other boats around me, which was great the see everyone taking hits and fighting fish. What I didn’t like tho was the amount of losers that were keeping undersized fish. It’s these times you want to throw big sinkers at them or look around and wish that there was a fisheries boat to help out, but as always there never is. I’ve been fishing for probably 35 or so years and in that time ive fished – Bays , beaches , rocks ,lakes ,dams, harbours, lagoons ,saltwater, freshwater, headlands and offshore and can you guess how many times I have been checked by a Fisheries Inspector ? NONE absolutely NONE. Which brings me to point of what I am actually getting for my money, as fisho’s we are all throwing millions into the economy? Boats, cars, trailers, rods, reels, bait and tackle, beers ,food, clothing, camping gear and the list goes on. But that’s not enough we also have to fork out for a fishing license! The negatives I have witnessed since the introduction of this rip off are • No noticeable and affective increase in Inspector numbers ( If there has been any) • More and more areas being designated as no fishing reserves and constant talk of new ones . • Sydney Harbour is still polluted at least 30years after government officials have declared that Dioxin’s are leaching from Homebush Bay. I wonder what everyone else here at Fishraider think? , if you think the same as I do maybe now’s a good time to start targeting Labour and liberal poli’s before the next state election is upon us and we get even less value for money.
  4. My first guess would be to say a larrge ray or banjo but as u seen something im sure u could tell if it was a ray or not, my next guess if it was a shark would be something like a Jackson shark because a real teethy type shark would have done your trace in no time. As for a Kingy at 1.5metres id say NO as u wouldnt have stretched line you would more than likely have no line , especialy on your sons bream gear. Maybe a jewie ? They are a bit friendlier on tackle and will take a smallish bait as well , and also give a good fight like u explain.
