  1. Just a short report from a few sessions. Newcastle beaches holding good numbers of fish - and bigger numbers of fisherman! If you can find a little gutter away from the headlamps & noise - you’ll find enough dart, whiting, flatty and tailor to keep you on your toes. Whiting are hitting really nicely, averaging about 40cm. Interestingly - I’ve not caught a bream in weeks, though have seen a few reds landed at Redhead & Stocko - not sure if there’s any reason or just coincidence. Yabbies / pipi / beachworm the go, I’ve been fishing 5-7 am or pm.
  2. Good on you mate - sounds like a good early session!
  3. That would be an unreal sight to see tailor jumping on to the shore! You're almost wanting me to redirect our tip up north! Though I think the Mrs is quite keen on Esperance. Thanks for the tips & also about the safety side of things - I'll keep a close eye out for any smashed glass/signs of trouble as we go around.
  4. Awesome mate thanks! I think we're starting around Esperance/Cape Le Grand and making our way back around the coast to Perth. Appreciate the tips!
  5. Hi there Raiders. I'll shortly be taking a bit of a 4WD trip with the Mrs around Southwest WA, and wanted to get any tips on likely spots to wet a line. This won't be an all out "fishing holiday" - but I should get a line in most days. Places we'll be stopping for a night or two: Busselton, Margaret River, Pemberton, Albany, Esperance. Also if you have any hot tips on places to camp that would be much appreciated! Dave

  7. Stockton has probably been best on the north side, also around Merewether & Dudley & Belmont to the south.
  8. Mate sadly not, this is right in the surf break!
  9. That's a good idea mate may give this a try!
  10. What a frustrating game fishing can be at times. Right now there are hundreds and hundreds of salmon roaming our beaches, they're just barely feeding at all! At times they've been schooled up so thick that their backs are showing out of the water!! It's quite a sight, though frustrating to catch. I've tried almost everything, even dropping down to ultra light gear & 3" tiny plastics. I'm still getting one or two per session on a small metal slice along with some tailor, but those fish are never caught from the "main school" of fish running the beach. It's quite a sight to see a wave form with hundreds of salmon looking at you! If anyone has any ideas let me know, in the mean time I'm just enjoying being out there!
  11. Good on you mate a few nice fish there!
  12. Hahaha! Mate I still have people swear to me that aussie salmon are no good to eat! Each to their own I guess.
  13. At Newcastle? Drop me a line next time mate & I'll join you if I can! All the best for your session
  14. Raider jig 40g mate
  15. Just a short report from a couple of efforts this weekend. Beaches have been lovely, and lots of fish still about. Salmon up to 80cm - you certainly know when you hook a bigger model! Bream up to 40cm and a few tailor in the mix also. There are some really good schools of salmon visible from most beaches, my challenge has been getting a small enough lure to "match the hatch" whilst still maintaining casting distance required to hit them. I might experiment with a few techniques this week, I reckon 3" white plastic would be the right model to match the bait in the water. I know they're not to everyones liking, but treated right upon capture & prepared simply, I find them a very nice eating fish too. tight lines
  16. Good on you mate - those Swansea salmon have had me frustrated for weeks now, cannot get a touch!!
  17. Good on you mate! I got your message 24hrs too late to join you for this session - glad to see you got some fish!
  18. Good on you mate - that's one of my favourite spots usually find a few tailor there. Will see how we go with the swell
  19. Good on you mate great beach action! I'll be up around Port Stephens this weekend & will wet a line if the weather behaves
  20. Cheers mate - I'm unsure of the exact species, perhaps somebody else knows? They were just called 'salmon' on our trip! I tried a few times over the weekend at Swansea for donuts! I don't doubt the salmon are about (saw a few jumping) - the challenge is getting them on the line!!
