  1. Caught this on a recent Houseboat Trip in the hawkesbury while targeting Yellowtail for liveys in Little Jerusalem Bay, Cowan. He is about the 20cm mark, didnt put up much of a fight and due do not knowing wtf he was didnt find out if he was tasty or not. So all you hobby marine biologists, wtf? Cheers.
  2. Hey mate, Ive been on a houseboat for the last 4 nights, managed to catch a lifetimes worth of yellowtail from the small bays, unfortunately I was unable to convert them to something bigger. I did see 2 guys in a tinny pull up close to shore and catch a few decent sized bream, they were bearlying and working baits like madmen, so i guess if you know what your doing they are out there too. Also alot of undersize tailor as well are in the bays. Sorry i cant be much more help.
  3. Oh yeh, the parking cops would have had a field day. But of course when you need them they arent around. The second part is tempting, but ods are the real cops would rock up just as i was doing it. ....and of course neither I nor Fishraider endorse that kind of activity.
  4. Headed down to berowra today to launch the little boat that can only to find that quite a few of the car AND trailer spots were taken up by inconsiderate picnicers, resturaunt goes or just people in general who lack a BOAT TRAILER to park in the car AND TRAILER parking area. After sitting around watching about 10 other people circling the carpark looking for a spot for their car AND TRAILER after launching i decided to just up my gear and leave. I couldnt be bothered making the trip all the way down to boundary road and back up to brooklyn only to have the same problem. I knew it was going to be busy and if the entire carpark was taken up by cars with boat trailers i wouldnt be so upset, it would be my own stupid fault for sleeping in an extra hour. Im going to the pub to watch the Cricket, i hope everyone else has good holiday as i hope the next half of my day is much better than this morning. Bye!
  5. Not that its really the right area of the hawkesbury, but scored a few decent size bream and flathead north of berowra ferry on saturday morning. Heading out for a bash tomorrow morning too.
  6. If you want the a live barometer reading thats updated every 10mins, ring Cessnock Automated Weather Info Service at the airport on 4990 7628. Amongst all the info such as wind and direction, cloud height, dewpoint etc is a stat known as QNH. You will hear something along the lines of "QNH one zero one three" which means 1013 hPa. Tight lines!
  7. Hey all, rather than get filled to the gullet on vb tonight like most other people will be doing ive decided to have an early night so i can wake up and go on a jew hunt tomorrow morning from berowra for the low tide in the morning, going to be going for my first legal! So, ill be searching around early morning for some mullet schools and hopefully get a few fresh slabs out of them. Failing that, as a backup does anyone know a good shop around castle hill that sells fresh squid? OR better still does anyone know a good area in Berowra Creek that stocks live squid? Help a fellow fisho out so he can finally win! Thanks in advance.
  8. Good work. He will certainly come in handy when its live baiting time.
  9. Wake vortexes are a by-product of lift production from the wing. Its essentially the same thing as the wake waves from behind your boat. Its the higher pressure from under the wing making its way back over and top into the lower pressure air, thats where the vortex comes from. Thats a painfully simplistic way of explaining it. You cant make a plane fly without making a wake vortex the same as you cant move your boat through water without making a wake wave(s). The displaced water wants to return to where you disturbed it from. Its Newton's equal and opposite reaction. If you need a better explanation there are a million videos on youtube that explain wake vortex and why its really bad for little planes that private pilots fly. If you ever see a large plane fly into or out of cloud see if you can see the vortex in the cloud, you will understand why it might be bad for a smaller plane.
  10. Im guessing water temperature is the issue? Its been floating around 20degC for a few weeks now. Everytime I look at the IR picture on Weatherzone it seems the warmer water still doesnt want to head any further south from QLD.
  11. Nice work dood, i was out on thursday night at a few little holes around the mouth of berowra creek and got nothing. Then again im far from an expert on the jews, but persistence will hopefully pay off. Must be nice to catch a flathead the size of a dinner table and then head out for an 8x jew session a few days later. Keep the good news coming!
  12. Interesting idea, but too much work, plus I cant see a battery drill that sells for $35 being very reliable. During lunch I went to jaycar and can get a 12v-12ah plus carry bag with a cig plug for about $80 so thats a win. The battery can be recharged from a normal car battery charger so thats a win too, considering i have about 5 of them lying around somewhere in the shed. NOW, ill start doing some research into finders, again. :-). If anyone has a subjective opinion regarding brands and whatnot I would love to hear them. :-)
  13. Hey all, Ive been pimping out the little 10 foot to get ready for the summer season and I want to get a fishfinder for it. Ive seen the humminbird fishin buddy online and its something like that clamp on style battery powered finder that im after. However before I hand over $250 odd dollars for one I just wanted to know if there are any other brands worth considering. I want to avod having to setup a battery box and fuse panel into a boat that barely fits me and an esky as it is. All help appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Hey raiders! Im heading out from terrigal next wednesday to try my hand at deep sea jigging for some big kings. The trip is byo jigs, all other equipment is supplied. Just after some info on what I should be looking for at the moment in regards to the jig, so far ive been suggested that brown, yellow and green colours are the gun, weight is obviously current dependant. Any ideas to help out a super novice jigger? Thanks in advance.
  15. Nice work. If you dont mind me asking, what area were you fishing and were you burleying at the time?
  16. x2 for the rocks between Bobbin and Apple Tree bay, there is also a bushwalk track that goes from Appletree bay north up to lords bay (i think its lords bay, 3 bays up from apple tree) and there are hundereds of potential spots through there. I berly chopped up pilly and bread crumbs and use peeled prawns on the hook. Be prepared to catch lots of baby bream but you will get some legals if your patient enough, you will also attract catfish which can dull the day. One day soon i hope to launch the tinny from Apple tree and give the bays a good workout, its all dependant on work at the moment. Best of luck.
  17. Ive had limited success with the 2 or 3lt juice bottle type trap. The only way i could make it work was lay it on its side and fill about in inch of sand on the bottom, leave the open side up and place it in about a foot of water, this should give you a few inches above the top of the bottle. I found lightly toasted bread gets the baitfish going a little harder than just fresh baked bread. Wet it and paste it around the underneath of the hole in the bottle. Tie some dark colored rope around the neck of the bottle and stand back on the bank about a meter or so. Sparingly throw some bread upcurrent of the trap to attract the bait fishies, once they start gathering around you basically need to land the bits of bread on top of the trap, eventually you will see one mullet go into the bottle and then 10 or so of his mates will follow behind, this is where i reef back on the rope and prey that there at least 5 or so left in there. Then its back to step one. Ive found this process very hit and miss because getting the mullet around the trap is easy, getting them into it is the trick. It took me about 2 hours and whole toasted loaf to get about 10 snack siced mullet. But its that old patience and persistence thing that will do it for you. Of course if your in a state that allows the use of a casting net then its easy. If your in nsw then its illegal, im not sure why though because you just collect what you want and throw the rest back. Maybe someone abused it way back when, or the state is still run by greenies that live in the inner west, anyway thats a whole other argument. Best of luck! PS avoid those square prism bait nets you get from ******, they just plain suck.
  18. It will make a difference WOT or Closed because there will be a difference in manifold pressure between the two, even at slow cranking speeds. However the most important thing is that you test each cylinder consistently, count the number of compression cycles and test at least 3 times before moving to the next cylender and use either wide open or idle for all of them. Or if your in possession of one..... RTFM!
  19. Cheers, if the water is flat enough ill head up that far, if not ill just have to try my luck. I dont want to chance the little 10footer if the swell and chop is getting big. Ive got a fair selection of jigs to run, both in 2.5 and 3.5 so ill suck it and see. Thanks!
  20. Hey guys, looking to head out into pittwater this weekend to wet a line or two. Anyone know some good squid grounds around the south end? Ill be launching from McCarrs Creek and heading out from there. If i get some squid ill have a shot at the tinny's first king, if not then ill probably just pump some nippers and target some bream instead. Anyway, all help is appreciated!
  21. "The best way to spot holes and gutters is to find a high veiwing piont that over looks the beach from a distance its easier to spot holes and gutters " X2, if your at stockton in your 4wd then go for a trip up the dunes and you will be amazed at the view, you may not even need to look at the waves for the gutters because from that height you could see the gutters just by the darker waters. Also remember to park your 4wd a fair way up the beach as the tide has a tendancy to creep up the beach a long way and the last thing you want is your beast buried in salt water. Have fun!
  22. Hey all, me and the girlfriend took out the little tinny this afternoon for its first fishing expedition. Not wanting to go to far on a new motor that i dont quite understand the idiosyncrasies of just yet we decided on a quick drift along the flats between the bridges in the easterly. Had a few wins with 3 just legal lizzards and a flounder between us. As well as a bust off by something that felt like a very heavy and lazy flattie or quite possible a ray. Not too bad considering it was mostly poorly planned (wanted to fish bream, not flatties) and we ran out of fuel just before we got back to the ramp at Mooney. Decided to row the rest of the way, by the time I cracked out the jerry and topped up the internal tank we would have drifted past the ramp. Good day had by all nonetheless. Pics up later....
  23. And if thomo doesnt, I will.

    Free Tinny!

Haha, bet that title got some attention..... Anyways, i have scored a free tinny from the in-laws, its just a little brooker ct10. Its in good nick considering its been sitting in a yard for the last 10 years. On a quick inspection all it needs is a new engine mounting pad on the transom, nothing 30 mins with a jigsaw and some particle board wont fix. So after I give it a decent once over and a leak test its going to need a motor because rowing is not my forte. Just after some opinions on what size you guys would go for. Something around 6-10hp sounds fairly reasonable for it. I dont want to build a speed demon and it wont be venturing anywhere near rough seas or large swell, most likely something to cruise around the hawkesbury area and possibly around to flint when the weather permits. So basically the questions are; 1. Does something around the 6-10hp mark sound right? 2. Is a motor that size going to put it over 10kt max speed? 3. I cant find alot of info about brooker ct10's on google, so any info/nostalgic stories you guys know would be great. Thanks in advance.
  25. Are you running platinum plugs? My old 2 stroke motorbike would go four times as long without a plug change with the platinum plug than it did with conventional plugs, even on the bust-the-wallet-expensive motul and motorex 2 stroke oils. Of course, consult the dealer first before changing anything as it could mess up your warranty or any work guarantees you have with them, and you dont want that with a nice, new motor. PS, If anyone suggests to you to change the heat rating of the plug to something a bit warmer, dont do it. It can lead to hole-in-piston syndrome.
