Not illegal to monitor weather channels, and also..i don't think anyone would ask any questions if you don't have a licence and use it in case of an emergency.. Although.. If you are concerned, get a licence. 4wd do use VHF's also...and need a licence to use one....

Fish have a high acid content in their stomachs that can literally dissolve hooks in a matter of days.. Cut the line as short as possible to the eye of the hook and release... Hooks aren't that expensive to replace...

Not really... But you can buy them.. Would cost you an arm and a leg though.. I saw one in penrith a few years ago for $3k..
