  1. I found a old post on this topic. http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=61411 Dicko makes a good point for not doing it " like looking at the various reports but its already getting too seperated... Thers fishing reports, freshwater, lure and fly, game...i have to click on 4 differnet folders already just to see whats going on! Fishraider is cool because there is a sense of community in the forums but every time you fragment it it gets smaller and smaller in a way. "
  2. Hey Raiders and Admin, To celebrate my 50th post & coming of age (I'm a bream now) I pose this question. Being a landbased fisherman I get excited with all the reports of great catches only to find out or decipher from the post that they were from a boat. So is there anyway we could indicate if the report is land based or from a boat. It could be an icon that denotes each post in the reports section or do we create a sub sections??? This is just a thought but could be over complicating it. Also I think it would be interesting to find out what percentage of raiders fish land based or from Boat. I understand people will do both but I'm more interested in how people fish the majority of the time. Can we do a poll? Cheers
  3. I'm no expert but I had that issue a while ago and now always have a stinger hook. This second hook that sits near the tail seems to be the one that gets more hook ups (bonnies, salmon occasional king) for me. Below is an image of how I roughly pin the yakka. personally I put the rear/stinger closer to the tail and not so deep in the flesh. The only down side is that it lessens the life of your yakka. So you need to counter this by catching extra bait. That's my 2 cents
  4. I didn't know that....I'll look into it So Bump73 was right. Well you learn something every day. Extract from NSW fisheries Possession limit A possession limit is the maximum number of fish that a person is allowed to have in their possession at any time. Possession limits provide a useful tool to discourage illegal sales of fish by constraining recreational fishers from accumulation commercial quantities of fish. For all saltwater species, the daily bag limit is the possession limit and it applies to all areas of the state. Read more here http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/sw-bag-and-size/about-bag-and-size-limits
  5. That destroys my 5 i got the other day. Hopefully you were with friends as 31 exceeds the bag limit for squid per person....which is 20. Have a read of this link if needed http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/sw-bag-and-size
  6. I'd switch to using peeled prawns and there is no need to use whole ones. My theory is to have them in bite size chunks so the fish can easily pop them in their mouth. Use a smaller hook 1-2 size will work a treat. I often chuck out a bit of prawn on a 10 size hook and catch plenty on that. Also I've switched across to unweighted and it definitely helps but you need to keep in contact with the bait by feeding line out. This works a treat on trevally too.
  7. Quick report..just heading out the door Got up at 5am & collected some yakkas for an land based fish in the east of the harbour. First livie smashed in 30 sec...no hook up. 2nd goes out and I land a salmon to about 50cm. For the first time in a while I have more dropped fish than landed. Dropped 2 fish on a metal slice. I'm pretty sure they were bonnies. Landed another salmon at about 10am. I lost a few more fish on my livie rig. I had a big run towards the end, I struck to come up loose The last fish of the day was a 53cm flathead. Also one of my livies got stolen and my 40 pound leader cut. There was no run...so I'm thinking crab or a squid. Thoughts?
  8. After a week or so of solid trying I finally got some squid. I only got three but it's a break through after many dropped squid. It been a slow process of trial and error and testing out spots. I live in the inner west so I've been trying various locations around drummoyne and balmain etc as I'd rather not have to travel too far if I don't have too. With all this rain and brown water I think a lot of locations that might be working aren't. So last night I ventured out a bit further to Nth Sydney. As I'd never tried this spot I tied on my cheap glowing surecatch 3.0 jig. This is so i can find the bottom with out fear of losing a nice jig. So I played around with this jig for a while and had no luck on the squid. So I thought lets test out how the Yozuri 3.0 orange jig goes. Bang! first cast I get a small one. Then next cast I get another one. Nothing for a while...must have been his mate. Then moved to another area and played with the jig for a while and when I'm winding in 5 squid shoot out from the darkness chasing my jig. I get one...while I'm storing him them must have moved on as no more hits. It was time to pick up the missus. I'm over the moon as I have a decent bit of bait for my Hawesbury weekend away. I did notice my jig was getting hit by small tailor, bream and large sweep will this scare off the squid? I'm looking to do night shift at at around midnight on Friday for a jew...Does that look promising? Oh and thanks to all the raider who gave me advice along the way.
  9. It's not every day we get a bit of coverage on the front page...well for the right reasons anyway. http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/a-lone-kayaker-a-marlin-and-one-wild-ride-20120204-1qypb.html
  10. hey all, I've been having problems of my squid staying hooked on the jig. I've read numerous posts here and other sites and have followed what they say do. I get hook ups but they always seem to some how get off. They don't seem to be losing tentacles. What i use and do. - a light flick stick with a mono leader - light drag - Yozuri 2.5 jig - yes the barbs are sharp - I never strike hard...I just keep pressure on and wind at a moderate to slow speed. So how do i increase my hook ups sticking? Should I wait a bit longer before I wind/strike? I'm spending the next week or so trying to catch squid for a weekend away at Berowra...I'm dreaming of a big jew. thanks
  11. I'm with ddaniel on this one. If I'm not going to eat my catch in the next 36 hrs I generally don't keep my fish. I generally dont think fish should be frozen...I like it fresh. There have been occasions when I've not eaten the catch and I feel pretty guilty.
  12. Not a great look for us http://www.news.com.au/travel/news/anger-and-tears-as-protected-baby-great-white-shark-blugeoned-to-death-at-sussex-inlet-in-front-of-children/story-e6frfq80-1226243144251

  16. Hey Raiders, I'm looking to get a rock fishing set up and am looking for advice. I have approx $150 to spend on the set up. What I'm looking for a set up to use off the stones. I will be targeting anything from bream to Kingies and everything in between. I don't want a huge heavy rod as I do enjoy holding my rod more than just putting it in a holder. Any thoughts? Cheers

    Brisbane

I'm looking for some tips on where to land based fish in Brisbane. I'm heading up to Brisbane tomorrow for a work trip. I have very limited time prob a few hrs one morning. I doubt I'll have access to a car (taxi for me) so I'm looking somewhere east of the city. I will be using soft plastics. So any tips on where to go? I'm hoping to get luck and target golden trevally or a queenie. Am I dreaming or do I have chance? From scouring google maps I think Manly boat harbour has potential. http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=manly+boat+harbour+brisbane&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Manly+Boat+Harbour&gl=au&ll=-27.452656,153.191106&spn=0.003827,0.006528&t=h&z=18 Cheers Raiders
  20. I was down there last night fishing the wharf. I was trying to will a nice big jew on to my livie. So that was you cleaning your fish on the ramp...I wanted to go and have a sticky beak but was too busy packing up. I wouldn't worry about that guy. I don't have a boat or a yak so I have no qualms about keeping a few (legal) fish. My policy is if i'm going to eat them in the the next 24hr I'll keep em. other wise it's just practice.
