I've been up that way a bit and Boambee is ok but limited area near the mouth. Try Moonee creek/beach north of Coffs. Micro jigging is slightly different from my understanding. Micro jigging is like standard jigging (in a boat) just with smaller jigs and purpose built rods like the Gomoku Rods. The shore jigging is all about erratic rod action/jig action followed by free spooling. But there seems to be variation of this from jigging style to more traditional high speed spinning techniques. I think to get the right action on the lures you need a soft tip on a 9 foot+ rod that can cast out weight of 30gm - 120gm

Anyone into or know much about shore jigging? There is a bit on the internet but not a whole lot. It seems quite popular in japan. The technique works on Bonnies and kings...so I'm keen to try it out. I've used 1/16 - 1/8 jigheads using worm/wriggler shapes. I haven't had to cast far as the gutter has been quite close (1-15 m). I have some smallish vibe and blades 1- -15 gm that I want to try out too.

Hey all, I'm wanting to get a ultra light surf rod to chuck around small soft plastics, lures and the odd bait for bream and whiting etc. this summer. So I think I want something around 9 - 10 ft. That can throw about 5 - 15 gm. Budget is sub $150. The closest I've seen are the shimano catana coastal 10 ft 7-21gm. Anyone out there got any other suggestions on rods or what might be suitable?? Quochuy I wouldn't be using any of these lures in the surf. They work best in the estuaries in about 1-2 ft of water. Then again in the right conditions it may work.

Hey all, I went for a quick fish down near Hawthorne canal in Leichhardt. It was just nice be out there and in the sun. I got a few bites but no hook ups. It's been very slow for me lately. Anyway, as I was walking back to the car I spotted a fish on the near the surface. On closer inspection it was a barra. So i did what any self respecting fisherman would do. I stated chucking lures at it. The poor sod was very lethargic and wouldn't even take it even though it was only 1 cm from it's mouth. Obviously it wasn't liking the temperate conditions. So I spent a bit of time trying this with no luck. So I though I might try and jag him with the lure and put him out of his misery as I don't think he was going to last too long in the conditions. That didn't work either and he swam further down the canal. So he's still out there somewhere.

I reckon the best place to start is a jetty or pier. Many a young angler has cut their teeth on a jetty. It got it all - Access to deep water, structure and no sand to wreck you reel. At these sorts of places you'll run into the usual bread and butter species of bream, trevally, whiting, leatherjackets etc. All are decent eating. I think there are some jetties up in pitwatter area. I'd head down early morning or late arvo for the best of it. that my 2 cents worth.

Hey All, I went a bit of whim and bought a St Croix Triumph Surf rod in the 9 foot length online. Although you can't really get them here they seem like decent quality of rod. I chose it because it's going to be a all purpose beach rod that will hopefully fling plastics, metals, blades, HBs and baits. Maybe even a bit of rock spinning too. The specs say it can handle 8lb -20lb and cast 15g - 75g lures. So hopefully this will cover a lot of fishing from bream flathead etc to tailor and salmon. I'm matching with a new Okuma Trio 40 bait feeder with 10lb power pro. I decided to go lighter as I thought it might cast further when I'm using the lighter scale of lures. I'm leaning towards finesse over skull dragging. Any thoughts on the rod. It's too late to change but just interested in Raiders opinions Cheers Kooks

Hey All, I was down in Thirroul yesterday as I thought I'd check out Mark Berg's Fish n Chip shop. I took a couple of light outfits as I thought I might take a look at Windang bridge. Anyways I cheched out Thirroul beach and there appeared to be a decent gutter right on the shore line running parallel to the beach. I haven't fished a beach much and the last time would have been about 5 years ago...but thi slloked fishy. So i tied on a tiny SP on my 6 ft alb rod and had a flick. After about 10 min I catch a tiny flattie. I decide I might have better luck with a blade as the tiny plastic was not really staying bottomed. So i switch over to a tiny gold blade. Instant success. I land a flattie to baout 30cm and then another about 28cm. After another 10 min I catch another flattie to about 33cm. So all up a successful short and sharp session for a surf newbie

Anyone? Or have I bought a dud?

I fish the sand flats at Tarbon ck at glasesvillie. I use chubby style crank lures. The berkley 3Bs work for me. I usually get a bream or a whiting and sometimes a flattie.

Hey all, I just bought a Yozuri L Minnow 33mm - sinking I liked the look of it so I took a punt. Hoping to use it on bream. There isnt a whole heap about them on the net. Anyone used them before?

I wouldn't anything that a servo prawn touched.

oh BTW I only had a hr to spare yesterday so I went to tarbon Ck for a quickie. Landed a whiting but got a few bumps.

I think i spotted some on the southern/Western of the bridge.

Hey all, Normally I'd trawl the post but I'm already out and about. The search on my phone is a bit clunky. I've recently I've taken up the pursuit of bream on HBs and I'm hooked. I'm after land based spots around inner west to chuck some hard bodies for bream. Lately I've been going to gladesville. I think it called tar on creek. It's worked a treat but want some more options. What I think I need are some not too deep sand flats. What other option do I have with HBs? I hope that makes sense. I hate typing on my phone. Shroom It seems like my 4lb nanofil snapped. Originally I thought it was my 8lb leader but on closer inspection in daylight hours it was the nano that broke.

Hey all, I've been getting into lure fishing lately. It all started with chasing Whiting on topwater lures. So this Saturday the idea of catching bream on lure for some reason or another lodged itself in my brain. I've never had much interest in bream but for some reason I was keen. Maybe it was the ability to just have a quick flick without all the early mornings and bait gathering that I do chasing kings. I usually research what lures I want but I just went to my local tackle store and quizzed the bream specialist. As I was land based I walked out with a Berkley Fat Dog 38 Shallow, a Strads Tragic 40 Deep and feel in love with a Ecogear ZX 30. Any way back to fishing. So I trundle of to a spot I'd never fished in Gladesville. The tides were all wrong but I was eager all the same. So it was an uneventful 1hr or so until the tide started filling in. The sand flats started to get covered and I felt this was my chance. As the sun was going down I caught my first bream. It was a stonking 10+cm. Pic attached. It was then followed by a whiting then another bream and then a 25+cm bream. So I was a happy chappy. Since then I've fished another 2 time. The haul being tailor, bream, snapper and flathead. The later being about 55cm and he stole my lure as I tried to lift him up the metre plus wall. So my lucky Fat dog lure is gone. In short...I'm hooked Any tips on how to lift up larger fish? O don't want to carry a net?? Cheer Kooks
