  1. Well done!!! Im sure it wont be the last. Bass sure are fun on surface lures and sometimes hit when least expected! Excitement plus! When fishing surface lures I always try to make a big splash with the lure when casting out, and sometimes the weirdest retrieves will be the ones that entice the fish into striking. Good luck with the next one, Cheers!
  2. Headed down to yarra with the yak for a couple of hours this morning. Fished the heavy weed with a spinnerbait with only a couple of small hits. Switched to a small clear popper and had heaps of interest but not many hook ups. Managed to land 4 small bass only up to 20cm, lost a much bigger one and a couple of smaller models that got buried in the weed. Got an Interesting by-catch too! A 42cm Mullet on the popper! Two of them were fighting each other to jump on! Thats a new one for me so had a pretty good morning! Cheers, Mick.

    EPIRB Purchase

I recently purchased a GME EPIRB and all the info came in the box. The online registration is done HERE If you are buying online, check the manufacture date on the beacon with the seller before purchasing as you don't want "old stock" that have been sitting around for ages. As the battery needs to be replaced at a manufactures set interval. Cheers.
  4. I've got the GLoomis bronze back matched to a 3000 certate custom. It is an awesome combo! The only minor criticisms i have are that the guides are a touch small (for larger leaders) and do sit very close to the blank, so if you are fishing near structure and need a leader of more than 20lb then the knot does tend to collect the guides a little bit. When fighting a king you sometimes wish the fore grip was a 'bees' longer. Tough as nails with a great action! In my opinion anyway.
  5. They are a great looking fish. Last year I heard of two decent sized cobia were caught from middle head in the harbour? Unsure of any truth or details though... Good luck!
  6. I was hoping to read that you had cleaned up over the weekend! LOL! At least you got on to something! Hopefully the Kings start to fire up soon!
  7. Mate that sucks! I asked my insurance company if they would cover the "extras" fitted to my boat last time I renewed my policy. They said that I didn't have to provide an itemised list to them for their records but in the event of total loss they would cover everything that I had a receipt for (and nothing that I didn't). They suggested that I take it to an authorised dealer and have an evaluation done, which the dealer listed down all the accessories fitted, condition, and valued the boat as a total package. If you can contact the previous seller, with any luck they may have had something like this done at some stage? Just a thought. Hope you get something sorted out.
  8. When you say "L.E.D light chips" what type exactly are you referring to? (maybe a picture would be handy ?) Are they bought from an automotive or boat store, or are they a single L.E.D bought from an electronics store? If they are bought from a automotive or marine store and are mounted on/in an epoxy resin coated circuit board, they will already have a resistor in the circuit depending on what the L.E.D requires. If you have bought them from an electronics store as a DIY spare part, there is a fair chance you will need to put a resistor in the circuit. The size of the resistor (to lower the voltage) will depend on what voltage the L.E.D requires. An L.E.D running at the correct voltage should never become hot nor should it draw much power. This is the beauty of them!
  9. Depending on the length of the cable extension you require, the cable you will be after is called either "8 B&S"(smaller) or "6 B&S"(larger) cable. If you can find it, try to use marine cable which is tin annealed copper. If it is permanently mounted, I would run this cable from the battery through a resettable circuit breaker or "maxi fuse" and up to an " Anderson " plug mounted to the boat (out of the weather). I would then put an "Anderson" plug on the electric motor end for ease of removal if you had to. Generally automotive/marine cable have many thin strands of copper to aid flexibility.
  10. Done. I have never used the ramp in question, BUT the waterway (and ramp) is a public asset and should be free to be used by the public at any time of day or night. Hope this does not happen and set a precedent for any others. Im guessing that some one would be paid to lock and un-lock the gate EVERY day and night of the year too?
  11. Hi, Seems like a pretty common problem with the yammies. Might be some help checking this thread out? Yamaha overcharging.
  12. Well there you go. Myth busted! Sulfate crystals dont so much "build up from the base of the battery", they tend to "stick" to the plates and enter the pores in the lead then as they crystallise they break off small particles as they expand. The particles then settle on the bottom of the battery. Maybe i'm guilty of being sceptical but I will still not be sitting batteries on concrete..... Cheers for the info.
  13. Never got a 100% answer as to exactly why, but it causes sulfation which basically shorts the plates of the battery which is irreversible.
  14. Ditto. Damn weather. Thanks to all admin for all their hard work organising the day anyway. Cheers.
  15. There is nothing wrong with the lake troller, my mate runs 1 on his 12ft tinny no probs. Check out the Cannon mini troll downrigger. I bought one to run on his tinny when fishing with him and it worked a treat. I like the cannon a bit more due to its line counter (easy to adjust if you can't see the bomb on the sounder) and it's a bit easier to wind. Cheers.
  16. Maybe try site sponsor Seriously stainless They may be able to steer you in the right direction. Cheers.

    The Goalkeeper

Pair it up with one of these as a tow vehicle for clearing the boat ramp before launching. Lol!!
  18. Thanks for taking the time to post up your input Huey!
  19. Yea im the same have had nothing but good experiences with penrite oil in motor vehicles (I have no vested interest in the product either). Being australian made/owned and for the price it sure looks good! Dicko- Thanks for the input! Fishon- Cheers. I thought you might "see" the benefits due to less smoke / cleaner burn that alot of people rave on about? But I guess you cant see whats happening on the inside and thats the most important bit! Cheers guys.
  20. Yea Im thinking that too as I've seen the effects of switching and combining engine oils in car engines over many kms, but as the oil is being mixed with the fuel and burnt off Im wondering if this would this be so much of an issue? I will speak to my marine mechanic but Im thinking I'll get a bias opinion as they only sell Quicksilver oils!
  21. I'm guessing that the saying " A bad days fishing is still better than a good day at work" probably wont fly too well with your fishing buddy on that day? Haha. If you can get a good drift the 40m to 60m line can produce for flatties off the heads. Good luck.
  22. Ok, so I know the benefits of using XD100/XD50 oil compared to other TCW3 oils in oil injected motors, but I couldn't find any other good/bad points or a comparison on any other brands of 2 stroke outboard oil being used in a carby oil injected motor. I have always used Quicksilver (Mercury) oil for my 2005 60hp oil injected Mercury outboard with no issues but I have never used anything else to compare it to. I am all for buying the best you can afford, but at the moment my budget is really limited so I got some prices from the local area as follows: XD 100- $75 for 1 gallon (approx 3.78L) Quicksilver Mercury oil- $49.50 for 1 gallon (3.78L) Penrite- $39 for 5L Shell Nautilus- $36.95 for 4L Im curious if anyone have any experience or knowledge to compare the cheaper oils as the advantages of the xd100 have already been discussed in other threads? I guess after all it's expensive for a reason. But i'm looking for an alternative. Cheers. Mick
  23. Thanks for the tip! I will give that a go and see how much cheaper it is. Cheers.
  24. Im guessing you buy it from the Mercury dealer in Penrith? Thats where I get mine from and would be interested if there are any other places to get it from as well. Im up for a new bottle before I go out next. There is a Mercury dealer in Mgraths hill past Windsor but it's a bit out of the way for me so I haven't checked prices there.
