  1. Travelling to fiji for the first time and looking to do a day or two of some game fishing in September. Anyone have any experiences or recommendations? Staying at the Sheraton.
  2. Heading to Jervis Bay Area in about three weeks to chase Marlin... Probably fish the banks... Any suggestions where to stay and best boat ramp to head offshore?
  3. Marlin is a Marlin! Black, blue or striped good to know but I know the feeling and it doesn't matter! Trust me you can try for ages for nothing but it only takes one!
  4. From my amature eye ... Striped! In the water it had bright blue stripes and fin bright blue.
  5. Fishing north of Sydney harbour in 65 fathoms! Trolling 6-8 inch lures!
  6. Finally cracked my first Marlin!! Dropped a big dolly early but then more than made up for it with my first striped Marlin on my own boat! Yew! Two rookies got the job done with a couple of close calls! ( now know why you need a crew of at least three) ... For those out there without much experience its worth the effort : After a few trips of pretty much staring at lures and water for hours to the point of no hope yesterday seemed different. Within the first half hour exiting Sydney harbour and deploying our spread we saw a free jumper. Excited that we actually saw a Marlin increased the confidence that they really existed. It was not until two hours later heading north from 12 mile did the lightest rod buckle over and my mate was into a nice dollie. Just as all the rods were cleared my mate curses and the silence as it was lost at the boat! We continued north zig zagging depths I'd heard of fish that had been caught at... Then that sweet sound of the tyrnos screaming line....then all the things I've heard read clicked in: -Punched the boat to ensure it stayed Hooked... -Mate took the wheel and then I cleared the rods - keep pressure on the fish Problem number 1: reel was gettin low so we turned the boat and chased it (600m not much left on the spool) Problem number 2: fish headed back under the motor so we had to stop lift the motor and thankfully it stayed attached Problem number 3: big boat heading straight towards us.. Lots of hand waving and cursing and he got the message The next 30minutes was a battle of gaining and losing line until it slowly swam up next to the boat. Problem 4: getting it into the boat... Held onto the tail for dear life while my mate with gloves slid him over the side from the bill! Once safely on the boat the high fives and screams of finally getting on the board!
  7. Good stuff mate ... I was out from the harbour could only get dollies... Marlin still eluding me!! Did you see the colour change at 125 m... We zig zagged it but no life!! Looks as those need to try closer!
  8. Anyone know where the traps are past 12 mile... Haven't found them last few trips? Gonna try again tomorrow
  9. I travelled to fad and wave rider got only small dollies and kings. Travelled north into 70-80 fathoms up to baranjoey and back to 12 mile..! Zero!!!! Water awesome blue and 24.5 degrees... No birds or bait! Heard a couple caught early but was pretty quiet in the radio.

  21. Okay guys headin in November to great ocean rd with my 5.6 m boat in tow. Leaving from sydney, and taking three weeks round trip where do you think the best places to stop to fish and fish? First stop will be bermagui to hopefully fish the shelf and Montague island. Eden?
  22. His marks are good and many of the charter guys are on them too. Found the last island straight out from the heads has been productive and not far to travel. Snapper and flathead just drifting using piillies and fillets of yakka.
  23. Got up there a couple of weeks ago and got lucky with weather for the three days up there. Stayed at little beach but ramp not good with sand build up so put in at shoal bay- shallow but possible. Cruised a few of the islands with no surface action but on the calm side of the last island straight out of the heads found a mix of flatties and legal sized snapper. Next day hit a few of scratchies reefs posted on here on the way to brougton. Didn't end up at Broughton finding some nice flatties and trag. Could hear the charter guys saying not much around it and were fishing similar spots to us so stuck to it. Disappointing on the surface action. Took the kids for the afternoon high tide around tomaree headland and was surprised to get some legal sized snapper. Plenty of livies at the crack in the wall which gave us plenty of fresh bait for the weekend.
