  1. Hi everyone. Im quite limited with boat usage as im not old enough to tow the trailer so was just wondering where some good lb spots are on the north shore, not fussed what fish but as long as ill have fun :)

    Thanks.

  2. Ive got a daiwa gold cast reel lying at home that was used probably 10 years ago (originally bought as a reel for my older brother when he was much younger so he couldnt stuff up, and also in perfect mech condition)

My question is how do you spool it?

And is it anything more then an a reel you would give to the first time fisherman, is it worth using?

    Thanks, Jono

  3. I think you do have to do a bit of practical, i got mine a few months ago and i was required to do five trips with someone else who has there licence (friend who has theres) but the test was easy 100% yahoo.gif

  4. gotcha - I have been in a tinny at North Head a few times in big swells and winds - very scary.

Did you try Apple Tree Bay?

On the Saturday i did the lb fishing at apple tree bay, not as great as i thought it would be.

  5. what horrible conditions did you experience - Sydney was bright and sunny til about 4pm

The actual weather was fine, sunny and not too hot, just the wind was ridiculous as soon as you get up too north head the swell and wind was scary to say the least especially in the tinny.

  6. Hello everyone, before is start i just wanna say thanks for all the info.

Yesterday wasn't amazing we did manage to catch some stuff....some very weird stuff and the usual tailor, squire, bream, flounder but nothing worth going back for.

However we did go out this morning, planning for kingie but horrible conditions stopped us from. However we did catch some bonito witch were a fairly good size, managing to buckle the rod a bit :P

We still had fun witch is the main thing, thanks again to everyone who helped with info

    Until next time, Jono

  7. ive been down there 2-3 times and havent caught much decent, only undersize bream flathead and whiting... doesnt mean they arent out there though!

if you try casting squid jigs off the jetty when high tide is around dawn/dusk there are usually arrow squid around, even managed to score a few on minow lures!

good luck and let us know how it goes

I'm guessing your talking about apple tree bay there?

Thanks very much jewgaffer, i wont be able to try that out today but ill defiantly be sure to try it out in the future.

We've already organised for apple tree bay, ive heard theres flatty, bream, taylor, whitting, and the odd jewy...Could i just bottom bash and try my luck? Any suggestions?

Thanks for all the info everyone,

    Jono

  8. Hey

Im planing on going with a few mates to apple tree bay for a fish (most convenient) and just wondering if i will catch anything there. Im going from land and also going at the top of the tide (I think is 12:40, correct me if im wrong witch i probably am) and fishing the runout

If anyone can suggest some spots or methods greatly appreciated :D

Also what can i expect to catch?

    Thanks,

    Jono

  9. Thanks everyone for the help.

It think his looking around the $200.00 mark so give or take a bit. What about the daiwa exceller?? thats also been suggested. My dad really likes the baitrunner feature on the 8000d but besides that he just wants something smooth and very reliable (knowing he wont be as vigilant with cleaning as i am).

    Thanks again everyone!

  10. Hello, i recently got myself a new reel ( stradic 2500fi witch is absolutely awesome! ) and now my dads decided he wants a new reel. Hes been looking at the shimano bait runner 8000d but thinks its a bit to expensive, what other similar reels are out there worth taking a look at.

    Thanks everyone,

    Jono

  11. Hello,

I need to tie leader to my braid and im not sure what knot i should be using. The person who tied my leader on before did this massive knot witch would snag on every guide especially when casting.

    Thanks,

    Jono

  12. Hey everybody just got back from fishing and had a blast!

Trolling along the rocks going out of the heads picked up a fair few bonnito around the 40 - 50cm mark, they put up a nice fight on my light gear.

A day full of big smiles :D and good fun.
