  1. WOW!! What a catch!! I have not caught any good size from the rock this year...
  2. I can't believe they'd put up with such moronic attitude. What happened to their mobile phones? There is appropriate service out there available for emergency request. Can't believe morons are in boats now... i've met some on the rock platforms and jetties...
  3. Nice report!! Hope those kingies will be abundant this year..
  4. Excellent effort with the new spot and they are nice catch!! Well done!
  5. Looks like you got a flathead that wears a nose ring Nice catch!!
  6. Took a week off from work and headed to Cairns to escape Sydney's winter. Weather was almost perfect all week long. Decided to book a half-day fishing trip for morning session, and took off from the marina at 7:30am, the owner and operator cast the net catching live baits just from around the break walls in the marina. There were plenty of little fish and not sure what they're called which most fishing charters used as bait. There were six anglers on the boat, and we went as far as 8km into the Trinity inlet (river system in Cairns) for the first stop. It was low tide and current was quite strong, operator put livies on every rod and flicked the bait too... so I never get to touch the rod for the first 30 mins. Leaving the rod in the holder hole, it was peacefully quiet, no one spoke a word. Scenery was beautiful and only 2-3 boats passing during the 1 hour stay. After 15 minutes or so, someone saw a rod bent... and he pulled up a GT about 1.5kg, then it went quiet again. After 1 hour we were told to wind up and handed the rods back to the operator. He took the boat to a spot near a ship wreck. Routines rolled again, livies were put on, rod was flicked. Waited and waited.... then mine rod bent. Wind up the line, and was instructed on how to do it like I've never fished before. Caught a madfish... (first time I heard about it), it looked almost like a tailor, but with more spiky tail and longer pect fins. Nice figthing fish Then no one caught anything... after almost one hour, we moved toward Cairns, right in front of the navy dock. Anchors were dropped and ... again the routines. Now, this is the interesting part. It was the last hour of the trip and this spot was so productive. I caught a queenfish and two fingermarks . Other anglers had their baits taken too. All fish caught were released, operator did not offer to keep... even though the flyer says "esky is provided to keep your catch fresh"... LOL I wonder why the operator did not take us to this spot from the beginning. Quite unhappy with operator's attitude (claims that he's run the business for 25 years, maybe he's bored). The boat was equipped with a mini toilet, but when business called I was told to do it at the back of the boat straight into the river... You folks can imagine doing that in an open water Overall, fishing was good at the last spot, but don't be bothered to choose the operator just because it say toilet or tea/coffee provided in the brochure (none was offered). At the end of the trip, we were taken to a creek and ware showed a croc sun bathing before boat was driven to marina. I didn't take too many photos, but here they are attached.
  7. Nice king!! Sell the story and picture to Fireline, maybe they'll send you some freebies
  8. Agreed, best report so far. Love your kings...
  9. Thank you for the recommendations guys. I believe the shiny metal lures will do the job, plus the prawn lures since I saw locals also used prawn as bait. I'll definitely give them a go. Cheers, Don
  10. hello raiders, I will be going to Indonesia for a litte trip. Last time I was there we fished fresh water prawns which have long blue nippers. I also noticed there are lots of fresh water fish at the spot, but the water color is cloudy (slightly muddy), similar to Chao Praya river as comparison for those who have visited Bangkok and its river. I'd like to try fishing with lures this time, and can anyone suggest what would be the best lure to use in with this water conditon. Any idea?
  11. Hi all, I found a good rock fishing spot, but I have been spoiled by some spots where there are holes on the rock to park my rods. This new spot has none of these holes so I was thinking about making a couple of them. I have no idea when and by who the holes were made at the spots I've fished. So,I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to make one. A couple of ideas I have is to drill/chissel or use strong acid *maybe not*... but can anyone advise? Thanks in advance.
  12. Nice King... We only get the rats in Botany Bay, I guess they travel up north when they grow bigger

    Kings

Nice kingy... How long did you take to bring it on the boat?
  14. I had that question for a while in my head. Now I got some explanation. Thanks!
  15. Nice mako!! Please tell us how it tastes.
  16. You'll be surprised how many of these ignorant anglers are. I don't even think they have fishing license, these people think the money paid for the license goes to the sink hole. Sadly, those who have no boat cannot enjoy 100% of the money paid in fishing license for fish conservation and other good things to make sure those kingfish are available in the harbour. once fished next to a family who kept their undersize breams, snappers... anything. They saw me throw my undersize catch back to the water, they started laughing and make jokes about it. I am not sure how responsive or effective the illegal fishing hotline is, has anyone called?
  17. Worms are really effective for whiting, however I always have my whiting 9-foot rod and my trusted yo-zuri 3D popper in the trunk for any unplanned whiting session. Use light line, and wind can be really helpful or painful. Good luck
  18. If I wasn't thinking that I only fish just for fun, it would have been a fight. Either him or me in the water, or maybe one or both will be gone after falling into the water. Thanks to all your good words guys, I really hope this rude person will see his day when someone sorts him out. Cheers, Don
  19. Hey Leo, no... not at the Shire... I was fishing at Julian, Little Bay.
  20. Hi folks, Got up at 3am this morning and went to my favourite fishing spot in south Sydney. Was just before 4am, and another 5 minutes later another couple arrived. I was surprised how keen anglers are these days OK, geared up the 12 footer with pilly and float, and off they went to the water. At the same time I was casting . Another half an hour later another guy arrived, then started casting with a chromie. On second cast he hooked a kingfish, he was swearing and cursing at other aglers and their rods while fighting his fish . OK, fair enough... a dude was casting while he was fighting his fish. But, was it necessary to curse and swear?? Took him a few minutes to land his kingfish and everyone congratulated him.. the person he swore at didn't have hard feeling.... Good! Another couple turned up at the spot soon. One of them walked to the rock edge and yelled "whose rod is this?", I said it was mine. He then replied "no fix rod here!!", I told him that I would remove it to make some room for him after retrieving my last cast. Without asking for permission, he then removed my rod from the rock hole and chucked it on the ground. I hope he didn't scratch my new Shimano baitrunner. I was so pissed, but I wasn't getting aggresive. I then asked him when did the rule of having no fixed rod start? He didn't answer. I would not mind removing my 12 footer to make room. At the end of the day, I knew what it feels like getting up early and sneaking out to have some fun with fishing, but having no room to fish at the spot. I have been fishing at the same spot for almost 10 years, and so far so happy. I met other anglers who became good mates and we fish together, share tips and have drinks in the pub after fishing. I hope this rude person did not have any discriminative motive over his ack. I have never met this couple at the spot before. I was thinking to myself at that time, was it worth an argument or even a fight? I then threw a few more casts, but I couldn't enjoy my fishing further after the incident. I packed up and went home. I feel sorry for people who have been or would be this guy's abuse victims. I hope through this, we can learn how to share the fun of fishing. Even on a tight spot (good spot is never big enough). Sorry guys, I had to vent my spleen here.. Keep the lines tight fellas!
  21. Nice fish! You make us jealous
