  1. Thanks for the heads up. I am planning to go to that ramp tomorrow morning for a launch. I guess i will need to time it so the tide isn't at peak low's, cheers. Ps how did your session today go? I am planning to fish around inside the bay.
  2. Jeff is right, all crv's are more in line with being a front wheel drive till the FRONT wheels slip then they lock up the rear wheels to try give more traction. I think their buzz word/term is 'real time four wheel drive - RT4WD'
  3. The general saying is get the biggest you can afford and be justified/comfortable with your decision at the end of the day haha... That being said I run a 7 inch unit and am perfectly happy with the size, that being said I wouldn't say no to a free size upgrade at the time of purchase lol.
  4. Yeah total scan for me to
  5. I run the ti7 (smaller screen version of the one you're looking) and am happy with my unit to. From what I understand the ti series is just the hds gen 2's in an all in one package where networking is not a feature needed to the end user. The good thing with theses are if you have a motor guide electric motor you can control it and autopilot using the ti7 and above sized units. Also another feature I love is the screen mirroring in that I can pair up my phone and have a 2nd screen of the lowrance unit, on top of that you can also pair up a tablet and have full control of the lowrance unit on the said tablet... Here is a photo of my lowrance elite 7ti paired with a Samsung galaxy tab s 10" tablet and a Samsung galaxy s8+ all broadcasting. Also to note, this should work with apple stuff to from what I've read.
  6. gotta be happy with that, good stuff.
  7. Oh wow Jim, I would have quietly rage quit and probably just packed it up and went home haha. I know that type of frustration... for me it's just a burn job lol, especially with the visuals of undeniably nice fish with primo bait literally dangling in front of their faces and no interest. Ah well that's fishing, and I guess part of the allure of it all. Your sounder image gives me reassurance for not having a downrigger though, in that having and using one is not a magic bullet to being guaranteed a fish lol, And if the fish are not willing to play, there is literally not a single thing you can do about it (short of being a commercial fisher and using a indiscriminatory drag net or something). Cheers OJ
  8. Thanks for the nice words all, I genuinely appreciate it. Glad you all enjoyed the vids (I seem to be getting into making videos as a new hobby it appears, and its good to know the end product is not considered complete rubbish to some haha). Very right Scratchie, kings are great fun no matter what size (especially on the light gear). Thanks Jim, you should have seen the sounder when it was really on... that was the only pic i managed to get on my phone as i still didn't know how to take screenshots on my sounder at the time lol. At the time I was flicking a sizeable grub on the medium gear hoping to get the attention of those bigger arches but unfortunately they didn't want to play ball haha (tried 3" grubs/ rapala sxr10's and halco roosta popper (4")). I'll try pump them out as they happen, thanks again. Its funny you mention that as I was thinking the exact same thing at the time. Fly fishing is next on the list of things i need to start getting into as it seems like its usually the magic bullet when the fish are being picky on other forms of fishing. Needing to invest in some gear would be a good start i reckon haha.
  9. good stuff, I was planning to go to the bay that day to but last minute changes meant i'd be hitting the parra river/harbour instead. you certainly went much better than I fared that day. Been itching to try the bay for a while now but plans always seem to force me to go local instead haha. Love the bigger trevs, pound for pound strongest fighting bread & butter species in my opinion. Great feed you got there.
  10. Hey raiders, haven’t made report in a while so here’s one from Sunday: Launched local on Sunday arvo for a 2pm-8pm fishing session. Forgot one of the bags that had the floating torch when we were about to leave the dock, so off I went to go get it (lucky we decided to launch local as original plan was to go to botany so only took about 5 minutes to get torch). Weather was good but didn’t venture to far. Ended up loitering around the Gladesville bridge area to try a new spot my mate was saying was successful whenever his brother went. There was plenty of activity on the sounder and a lot of visual activity with boils happening all around the boat. We could see in the water thousands of whitebaits fleeing from predators all around us. This lasted a long while to the point where we gave up as the predators were just not interested in what we had to offer, only getting 2 solid hits from very nice greenbacks (tailor). I lost one boat side as it managed to chomp through my line as we were looking for the Gopro (for footage before netting lol), and my mate lost another one boat-side (the only consolation being was visual confirmation of what they were before we lost the fish. All up we managed to catch 4 flatties with 2 keepers and 1 keeper bream. the fish were not interested in the bait we had out (prawns), only managing to catch a few undersize breams. The rest of the action from the day was from working plastics and metals. Was a good little arvo session all in all. Heres a screenshot of what the sounder was looking like for most of the afternoon/ evening (didnt get a shot of the predators attacking the baitball from under/ pretty cool thing to see as it was happening). Working on a small video of the session as this was the first outing with the new toy (gopro hero 5 black) supplemented with mate’s hero 4 silver. EDIT - Finished video: Click here On a side note, had a previous session way back in March but was very lazy to post anything up. There exists a vid for anyone interested. Pretty much just a video of a day trip on the boat in Sydney harbour on a choppy day with the gf and parents, managing to have fun landing some fish for the table, and having fun on light gear with some rats. Link: Click here Have had many other quick sessions land based throwing plastics around and there really wasn't anything to write home about with some sessions producing absolutely no action and others just having fun with plague choppers. Thanks for your attention.
  11. Nice productive little session. Good spot to buy the sounds of it.
  12. Im not actually sure witout going outside to check the sidewalls, all i know is they are light truck tyres. For now i am actually happy with them as I prefer the durability of having commercial tyres on my trailer so I have no plans to get rid of them just yet, my problem right now is finding a tow car that has a tow ball height that is higher than what my small hatchback currently rests at.
  13. Hey all, I finally managed to take my boat out on the 20/2/17 for a test launch & retrieve (and then a bit of a cruise to gladesville bridge then anchored fish) after it had been altered by myself and Frank (+ supporting cast of my gf Nat, mate Ramsey, Franks wife & her friend) on the 9th feb. Ignore the strap dangling in front of my face, it was all me holding up the bow in mid air... This test launch was a bit ad hoc in that it was not planned before lunch time between myself and my mate, anyways we ended up dunking the boat at around 630pm and pulled it out at 9pm. Also this was the first time my girlfriend has been on the boat when it was actually on the water, also another first was my mum who came down as well after work to try out boating (this was actually also the first time she has been on any boat of mine) and from what i can gather they both enjoyed it (gave my mum a couple travel calms just in case). I edited up a quick clip of how the boat went when launching. It slides off now like a dream compared to the difficulty from previous 2 launches. Retrieving also went without a problem (no video was taken for that as it was to dark to see anything really). Anyways thanks for all those who took an interest in my thread, i now have the confidence of being able to launch and retrieve the boat now solo thanks to the new setup. Click here for my Youtube vid Cheers Ojay
  14. I got the stradic 5k fj (model before the latest fk stradics) and I can't fault it. I also have the stradic 3k fk (latest model) and honestly you can't do wrong going down the stradic route.
  15. That's a total bummer Frank. Look on the bright side, with your new commie you now have aircon (im assuming). I know that feeling of losing faith in a vehicle especially for the purposes of boating (as you may remember with my car last week lol). Also with the Bass boat now residing with your mate, works out better for you as you don't need to worry about maintenance/rego etc but you still get to use it when you're down there lol.. This should give you the motivation to get that $8 gasket that's been needed for 2+ years now for the other toy haha For now don't fret over not having the bass boat anymore, just give me a buzz and we can tee up a day to go out for a fish on my boat (now that its easy to get my boat on and off from the trailer thanks to you). Im going to have to agree with Johndory though, its probably best to hold off buying any lotto tickets for a while Cheers Ojay
  16. Judging from the pics it would appear inside the Bay, just off moulinex point aka trevally alley/ the parking lot etc etc
  17. From what I've been told if your helm doesn't have a non feedback return or hydraulic that's pretty normal due to torque steer.
  18. Holy shishkebabs! Makes me glad I bought my boats used... Doesn't seem like buying new gets you out of doing any work on boat regardless, just a more pristine paint job (temporarily till the dissimilar metal corrosion eventually kicks in due to the lazy fastener /hardware finishes), and that sour taste left in your mouth after discovering the lack of quality assurance over a product you expected to be prefect from the get go due to the premium you pay for buying new :/
  19. Fireline tournament exceed for my light estuary stuff. Nice and cheap enough that does the job with no complaints. Can also cast it much further than the equivalent lb power pro lines (at least in 10lb comparisons). Haven't found the need to try switching to the more expensive and exotic Jdm braids etc. Been a happy camper since first trying braid in 2010 with fireline crystal in 8lb (still in use)
  20. Above & beyond mate, genuinely appreciate it pictures say a thousand words as they say... my 1st post should of just had the pics and said "need fix, what do?" *picks up caveman club*
  21. Yep makes sense, sound advice... in a nutshell i got to go back to the drawing board haha. yep this is the hardware i have left ...bought extra as redundancy. I guess i will try this with car jacks and blocks of wood etc, saves me trouble with boat ramp and no GPO's to use. time to take a headache pill Fab lol, cheers. these are the leftover bits (i bought multiple for redundancy) i still need to replace on my trailer (only managed to replace the front two keel rollers and 1 spindle for it (the other one was still good so reused it). in order for me to make my V guides work i will NEED to be able to reuse the old spindles at the rear because I cannot find replacement ones long enough to replace them. (the v guides i seem to have are designed to have the ends of the spindle go through a bored hole on one side of the V block whereas your ones on yours do not need support it seems on the keel roller side of the V block. ..ok now take a panadol lol, thanks again Fab & everyone else for their sound input, much appreciated. will report back here on results or after i give it another crack.
  22. I'm guilty for only reading the 1st paragraph initially and going straight for your photos, after having a proper read that's great advice, I'm sure my one is not set up right to as you can see th chunks taken out of my side V bits and keel rollers... Either that or the previous owner just power loaded and came in hot every time. I've only launched and retrieved a total of 4 times so that damage as definitely there before my tenure. I'm keen to try repositioning now before I try more drastic measures (wobble rollers). I used to launch and retrieve like that with my tinny but for some reason with the new bigger boat I decided my trailer needs to be almost fully submerged because the ass end sits so high (overly sprung suspension and being towed by a small low tow bar height car). Nice looking boat btw.
  23. hey guys, yeah sorry for the crappy explanation, I got confused reading it back to myself to. I forgot to mention that the 2 rear keel rollers are not in the position they were before I attempted replacing them(full contact with the keel on all keel rollers), they are in that current position in photos because I wanted to try a new position on them to give them a sharper V and attempt to close up the gap between the keel roller and V skids and thus dropped the keel roller and raised the V parts on either side... forgetting that the side skids were there in their original position and and thus why the boat is now sitting on the skids completely on the arse end (dropped the keel rollers way too much, by the time we put the boat back on the trailer it was night time because we ended up giving up and went for a cruise instead), it was the next day at home when I saw the error. my problem is not the height of the keel rollers (I know they are at the wrong position), more so the gap between the roller and the V guide thingy and my keel getting pinched in between the two… I think I just need to try readjusting again before I try the wobble rollers I guess. I was looking at the same type system from a newer trailer and I noticed that the blocks to create the V on that particular trailer had 2 support posts each and they spilt onto the keel roller (attached pic). my problem is the spindle for the 2 rear keel rollers is not the typical one (these measure over 30cm, and I can’t find replacement ones from the typical chandleries ( I’m afraid I will have the same problem again and not be able to pull the rusted pins out of the spindles)… only thing I can hope is to bring a cordless drill next time and hope it can take them out as I need to be at a ramp to float the boat when doing this for ease and no power points at my disposal. I’ve taken some new shots of the rear just now and I circled the suspected gaps that keep catching my keel, any advice on how to close these gaps up (circled in red). They existed before I dropped the whole rear roller system however it could be possible the V skids had dropped from previous owner and I took it as normal from the get go? Thanks for the pics Fab, the way your ones are set up are like mine as you said so that’s put my mind at ease in terms of I’m not missing anything important. I guess I will just have to try repositioning again (next time armed with power tools to get rusted pins out of spindles). in terms of repositioning all the rollers on the keel should my boat have a slight angle sliding away from the trailer if the boat was on? Or are they supposed to be level and the side skids barely touching hull when on it? I just don’t know how the angles should look if I have to start from scratch repositioning everything. sorry in advance for the terrible explanations.
  24. Hey raiders looking for some advice in regards to trailer roller setup on an aluminium hull. So I have a problem right now in that ‘ezi loader launch and retrieval system’ and keel rollers don’t overlap enough and as such when loading my boat onto the trailer the keel always gets pinched in between the two and forward progression when winching is halted. My current roller setup is 2 skids on the outer most part of the boat for support and then 4 keel rollers with the back 2 having a set of these ezi loader style skids on either side on the keel roller (OEM dunbier circa 2003). Now, my boats rear weight is being fully supported by the skids and not the keel (I know they are not supposed to rest on the skids 100% and are merely there for side to side support but at the time of trying to replace the rollers on the keel the pins had rusted so much extraction of the pins from the spindle at the boat ramp was not possible). I was trying to replace the keel rollers, as you can see they are all pretty chewed up in the pictures except for 2 closest to the bow which I did manage to replace). I have a 4 X quad wobble assembly rollers and would like to know if it’s a feasible idea to replace the 4 ezi loader skids on both sides of the 2 sets of rear keel rollers at the rear with these or is there a better option to fixing my problem? Please find attached the pictures of my trailer setup and the section of the keel (where it turns into an I-beam sort of section) and the bow and roller plastic getting scrapped when trying to winch it on… I have the 4 sets of quad wobble roller assembly at my disposal already and would like to know if having skids, wobble rollers and keel rollers is a bad idea or not, I have never seen a boat trailer with the setup I am asking about so I’m not sure if that’s because of an initial setup cost or redundancy… my hope is that the wobble rollers will act in place of the 4 side skids making the V shape at the back 2 keel rollers… any advice appreciated, cheers.
