  1. Waters very dirty at the moment but heard some good jewfish being caught though not sure of exact details sorry
  2. that dophin fish looks like its been attacked by a squid and a shark
  3. We were thinking of keeping it for bait but seemed a shame to kill it cause of its size. Though if it was a squid would have been a different story
  4. Well we decided to head out of sydney today in hopes of getting some bottom bashing in. We didnt manage any squid but plenty of yakkas which converted into a nice snapper, mowie and a couple of naniguy. Lots of takes but few hook ups however we did manage to hook a massive cuttlefish which re-painted our boat black and after a couple of pics went back in. Overall a good day thanks to the weather hoping to get out again soon.
  5. What were the fish you catched on the squidgies?
  6. Yea mate it's a 650 off shore and in regards to the tide we normally find 3 hours after low and 3 hours before leaves us with enough water although king tides play a part in it as well
  7. Yea we know him up there unfortunately he can't launch it in the creek so he goes to the south west rocks ramp. They came across a big school of dollies like us and bagged out the day before we found the log
  8. Well after 4 months of no fishing its good to finally put a post up. For around 3 weeks we went up to Hat Head/South West Rocks and experienced some mixed fishing and weather conditions. The first week was spent sitting in the van drinking and enjoying christmas due to rough seas not that we were complaining at that point and new years day saw us get out for the first time. We headed out to do some bottom bashing and pulled up some nice reddies and other mixed species and decided to trawl back to the ramp after the fish went quiet. We managed a couple more days of good bottom bashing with some nice fish being caught both on the bottom and reports of marlin and dolphin fish everywhere. One day we were fishing on the bottom with not much luck when we received a tip that one of our friends were on a log pulling up dollies ranging 8 kg+ every drop and in no time at all we were off with another fellow boat heading straight to the spot. Now the log wouldn't have been more then 2 metres long but without exagerating hundreds of Dolphin fish were everywhere and any lure that was let out was quickly taken by a fish. Being causcious with our bag limmit we decided to let the smaller fish around 60-80cm go saving up for fish around the metre mark and managed two nice fish before the following happened. My son was letting the two rods out (only me and him on board) when we did another round and passed by the log and within seconds had a hook up. At this point I wasnt surprised and kept driving slowly hoping for a double when he shouted out it was a marlin. Now me and him have talked about it many times since and have argued whether we would have preferred more dollies rather then a marlin but regardless we were hooked up and had about half a spool of line left before we began backing up on the fish. Seeing as we were only using small pakula skirts with 80 lb trace we werent very optimistic about landing this fish (that and the fact that it was on the 15kg outfit) and after gaining most of the line the fish went deep and the tugg of war began. About 40 minutes in we were a fair bit down the coast and the wind was starting to pick up as predicted and we decided to set the drag up past strike eager to get the fish in and release it with hope of still finding the log which still had a boat fishing near it.However the fish persisted on the light gear and a sudden realisation hit me, this is either a good fish or its tail wrapped. About an hour and fifteen minutes in we finally saw the fish near the boat and realised it had hooked itself in the corner of the mouth and wraped the line and short trace around its body. At this point the fish was upside down in the current and wasnt going to make it because of the position it had tangled itself up in and after a couple of close calls under the boat we had the fish gaffed and on board. At this point the wind was puffing at about 15 knots and we really needed to get back in and also due to the tide we began a wet journey home abandoning the log that had taken us 15 km's down the coast. We went to the weigh station and when the fish was being hauled up on the higher end of the gantry (because of its length) the bar snapped due to lack of use and we resorted to carrying the fish over to a nearby tree and weighed it there. The black went 89kg and was special in perticular because my son had now caught all 3 species of marlin. After that day we trawled a couple more times with no luck although a few more marlin were landed including some cobia near the headlands and the occasional big dolphinfish. Overall an exciting holdiday although the weather could have allowed for a couple more days and now the wait begins for next Christmas Click links for pics: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/140/img1010zv.jpg/[/img] http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/854/img1015f.jpg/[/img] http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/850/img1017iu.jpg/[/img] http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/638/img1020ze.jpg/[/img] http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/855/img1022i.jpg/[/img]
  9. Why don't the greens actually do something productive and try and stop this problem. Surely they must see the damage trawlers & longliners etc are causing and should be working harder to address it
  10. We are fishing near coffs and the full moon brought nothing but raging currents as per usual and cold water . Maybe the reason most fish go of the bite this time of the lunar cycle
  11. ET tablets definetlty better then chemist brands
  12. U could classify wide as a certain point from shore or what 'you' consider wide. It could also depend on how far you normal go out cause a few propels I know have different definitions of 'wide' based on how far their boat can go out. Hope this helps
  13. Awsome catch shame on the flattie though good job
  14. Hello raiders, can anyone help me upload the pictures instead of inserting a link
  15. One line: AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE Oi Oi Oi! :yahoo:
  16. It would be interesting to see how old a fish like that would be. I know snapper can get 30+yrs old but u can't judge their age based on size sometimes
  17. we have tried other squid there before but they don't seem to be interested for some reason. Mullet from the area also works well but we find squid is easier to get
  18. We caught them all on fresh strips of squid and one on a small yakka When ever we go to the spot we always use newcastle squid or squid from a nearby area and the fish seem to hook up every time
  19. The family and I decided to head up to port stephens over the long weekend hoping to get some good fishing sessions in but unfortunatley we only had one good day out of 4 .When we arrived my two sons started fishing straight off the shore at the back of the property we were staying at dispite the strong wind and within 20 minutes my youngest caught a 1kg bream measuring 38cm his new pb .After some quick pictures we realeased him back safely to fight another day. The next day we got out onto the water at about 7 am and headed to our secret jewie spot and within a couple of minutes we had a triple hook up. we were only using 2 and 3kg line and caught 2 out of 3, dropping one close to the boat.we then went on to catch 4 more ,the 3 biggest being 8.35kg,8.12kg and 7.76kg. we ended up releasing 5 other fish between 55-65cm because our esky was full and lost around 7 fish, one taking around 100m of line and snapping us off. the next two days we spent catching the odd whiting and flathead from shore with the strong southerly keeping us off the water for the rest of the week .Overall a great weekend and looking foward to next trip up there. http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/2531/img0896x.jpg http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9817/img0897oo.jpg http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/2243/img0899nw.jpg http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/6521/img0901mu.jpg http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/4703/img0904fw.jpg http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/4384/img0905xz.jpg http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/7633/img0907ln.jpg http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/1578/img0909cs.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/5503/img0910cuc.jpg http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/8326/img0912k.jpg
