  1. Fished the Goobragandra River just near the Hume and Hovell track bridge. Cheers, Matt
  2. Spent the weekend camping on a high-country river just out of Tumut. Beautiful spot. The water was charging through the system with all the recent rain/floods so I thought my chances of success were low. Got up early one morning and threw a little rainbow trout style shallow diving lure for about an hour. To my great delight I caught 2 x rainbows and 1 x brown in the hour session. Great little fighters that absolutely smashed the lure on light gear, plenty of acrobatics involved too. The brown was delicious on the fire that night with some salt and butter. The little rainbows swam off the fight another day. I think I feel a freshwater fishing bug coming on after a successful first adventure! To add to the serenity of the scene I had a cheeky platypus playing in the river in front of me... gotta love the high country!

  4. I saw similar looking things when my sewer overflowed this morning
  5. Great work matey! I caught my first Jew in the same spot only a few months back (also using a dirty old pillie).. It is pretty exciting when you get the torch out and realise that it isn't just another salmon!
  6. Nice work! I hooked a blue swimmer through the claw on the georges near (Captain Cook Bridge) yesterday.. I was certainly surprised to see it come floating up .. dead weight on the line, thought maybe it was going to be a confused squid!
  7. Spent the morning cruising around Port Hacking. Started near the moored boats in Gunnamatta Bay searching for bait fish - without too much luck.. my berley kept attracting the attention of those pesky pinkies! Had a quick drift of Jibbon Beach but the swell was up a little too much for the liking of my 13 ft tinny! Made the decison to head for flat water and pulled up deep off Lilli Pilli. Landed a few snapper (just under) that put up a fun fight on light gear. Saw a few sizeable schools of something on the sounder that kept my hopes up from time to time It was when pulling the boat out at Swallow Rock that I saw this specimen and thought shame shame shame.. both a shame that I didn't get to catch it.. and a shame that whoever did catch it didn't return this monster to breed another day. Note: My foot is size 12.. this was a true monster flatty. Apologies for the poor photo, dodgey old phone camera!
  8. brilliant little session! how much water were you fishing in?
  9. Pretty sure I saw one of those hanging around Mr Byrnes' nuclear power plant... blink, blink, blink (one for each eye).
  10. That Jewie is a thing of beauty! Can't wait til the next one latches on to the end of my rig! Great work.
  11. Had a quick go off the jetty at Gunnamatta Bay yesterday arvo.. saw a few squid caught there, none by me unfortunately.. Then had a bit of fish with peeled prawns and also ganged pilchards.. The result - a couple of chopper tailor.. the biggest probably about 35cm, put up a nice fight and jumped a few times out of the water.. fun for a little guy.. nice relaxing afternoon and scratched some of the fishing itch that had been building during the rainy days!
  12. Braved the wind this afternoon and fished Port Hacking - just in the mouth of the South West Arm.. only had a couple of hours but really struck out... Using prawns, pilchards and a healthy bunch of berley I caught nothing but an endless supply of 10-25cm snapper.. urhg.. help! I'm sure there must be better to be had!
  13. Got any tips on the hacking, I'm a beach fisher in the area but have got my hands on a boat for the weekend.. looking for some good action!
  14. Yep, in the basin! I was mighty surprised to get two nice fish like that. Just plonked the boat straight out in the middle and got burleying.. pretty happy with the results! The locals seem to think there are some reds about in there. Apparently numbers are building since the cessation of commerical fishing.
  15. awesome work! i'm hoping to hit it up this weekend - hope there are still some left by then!
  16. Took a relaxing drive down the south coast on Saturday and decided to have a little fish out on St Georges Basin. The southerly was up a little and I wasn't expecting much. Arrive at the spot around 3pm and started to burley up. Sat around for an hour and not even a touch on the pillies. It was then the baits started disappearing, I figured the baitfish were starting to move in on the burley, hopefully the food chain was building! About half an hour later. Bang bang bang! Pulled up two good reds within 15 mins (the biggest 41cm and approx 1kg). The bigger fish gave a spirited fight on the light gear. Missed another 2 very hard hits straight after landing those two. Also tagged a stray flattie. Things then became quiet again and cruised back to shore just on sunset for a very satifying fish. Matty
  17. What more can I say - those fish are stunners! Don't think i'll be anywhere near the blue water when i visit NZ in august but i'll certainly be plotting a summer visit while im there!
  18. How big was the yakka that beauty demolished? Great tale!
  19. Beaut looking fish - walked from Otford to Garie and back the other weekend.. Some of the quieter rock platforms along there look great for a fish.
  20. What a start! Nice work - Matt.
