  1. I have a question as nobody here has mentioned anything about knots. Whats your prefered knot to tie your leader to say a snap swivel, hook or even just a swivel. Once again i mucked about with some different knots & i found the Trilene knot seems to be pretty strong but was just wondering what other people like/prefer ???
  2. Thanks for that its diametre is .52 reasonably heavy braid & the mono is 1.0 in diametre so hopefully it should be ok. I tried it quite a few times & seems quite strong. What do you think Grant ?? Cheers Steve.
  3. I didnt some playing around with with one of my game rods & tried the PR knot 80lb braid to 100lb leader of about 20mtrs ( doing away with the old wind on leader )& tested the strength of it, i pulled 22kg on the spring scales very happy with that, im sure it would pull more but anymore drag than that id say i would get pulled over the side of the boat fighting a fish, after reading all about the mid knot & the PR knot the PR seems the better one & its actually quite easy to do. I will be trying this set up on tuna & see how it goes. It dont look like much of a difference between the 2 knots actually.
  4. Damn shame about that theres nothing worse than a long fight only to lose the fish
  5. Sounds like a rays bream we caught 1 cubbing east of browns a couple of years ago very starnge looking fish indeed but then lot of the deep ooglies can be lol
  6. Id say thats why the fin left your cube trail Mr Mako turning up mite have been the reason, perhaps i should of had a cube problem was i was alone, the conditions got great just before dark i ended up trolling down to southern canyons to try find a temp break but there was no change 20.5 all the way until i got inside the shelf where it dropped to 19.5 anyway next trip will hopefully see the current back off a bit & ill be cubbing for sure. Still was a good trip got a good feed of blue eye & gemfish. Nice haul there President well done.
  7. Sorry for the late post but it was pretty quiet got a few blue eye current was running at about 2-3 knots at browns didn't bother cubbing &didn't hear much other than a guy hooked up on a Marlin at longy @ about 5 o'clock on snapper gear he said he was fighting it it for an hour & a half, i wonder if he landed it ???
  8. Havent heard much yet but im heading wide 2mrw let you no how i go.
  9. Has anybody tried this, just rock up there without fishing rods etc & sling a camera around your neck & go into the area to see what happens ??

  17. Here is another option its what i use & it works well out at browns, 50mm reo bar that i get from jobs sites 9inches long cut on an angle to cut on retrieve when winding up wieght 1.8 -2kgs iv been using them for a few years on my tanacom bull 1000 gets to the bottom in no time. The mono is just there to attach a sacraficial line to, i use 80lb mono about 1mtr long on the bottom of a 2 hook rig set up.
  18. Onya boys nice job on getting that fish
  19. A sad sad season this year guys unfortunately
  20. Nice work guys How was the water temp on the shelf ?
  21. G'day mate, Unfortunately we made the mistake of pushing the drag to far in the end popping the line lost the fish & the lure it hit the short corner, we were watching the lures & just as we looked forward for what seemed about 10secs & zzzzzzzzzzz went the tiagra, we didnt see the fish till he jumped about 6 times & the rest was history. We hooked it on the shelf in 115 fathoms & lost it out in 160 fathoms, he just went with the current dirty bugger. Theres always next week i guess By the way thats a nice fish you got there mate pitty it got beat. Cheers.
  22. Damo, just out of curiousity whats the current like up there ?? A mate & i headed out off sydney yesterday we managed to hook a nice blue but lost it after a 4hr fight on 24kg, it went deep after a few jumps near the boat & just kept going with the current, its still running quite a bit & has been for over 3weeks probably more
