  1. A couple of guys in the fishing club salt their pilchards for a bit of bottom bashing and they salt them for only a few hours and then chuck in the freezer, they had said any more than a few hours and they dry out to much. Cheers
  2. All good info here guys and have never heard of using snapper sinkers off the beach before so i guess i'll be trying that out next time i hit the beach. cheers
  3. I bought 2 yesterday - red & blue and will be giving them a go soon... work /time permitting. Not sure if there are any other colours, the tackle shop i bought them from couldn't give me any advice on/or about them. Persistance will prevail here.
  4. the smile on your face says it all, nice red !!
  5. Junior did well - good session.
  6. Thanks for posting - enjoyable read, the nipper will be hooked in no time.
  7. That's the shot Charles - nothing better than a good beach session with top conditions. Cheers
  8. Me being a Silstar Crystal Blue kinda guy - i went with their 9footer which is rated 2-5kg with all the good fuji gear on it and is a gem to use...like most of the crystal blue range. Cheers Pete
  9. Top session you had there Pete, Even without catching a fish it's good fishing the nth beaches. Cheers Pete.
  10. Yo bro, Just got back from the bay myself and drooled over everyones catch everyday, misses said no rods this time !! Just had to feed my addiction by hanging around the cleaning tables. Good weekend none the less. Had seen some massive kingies being cleaned, good sized snapper & flatties and loads of bream. Had read reports of whiting however didn't see anyone catch any. Nice pic of your salmon and hope you had a good weekend up there. It's a top place to spend a few days. Cheers Pete
  11. Hey mate, is that trip your doing booked up with Alex ir an individual trip ? Would be interested if there is room ? Cheers Pete.
  12. G'day mate, Had a fishing trip down to bermagui not to long ago and to cut a long story short - speaking to the fishing club president down there said he never uses bonnies as bait anymore since he was told how to cook them. Here's the problem, after putting away 16 beers i kind of forget the most important bit "how to cook them". I know he mentioned something about the bbq and making sure you bleed them straight away if your going to eat them. I'll try to find out from a member of the club and get back to re: how to cook, might take a couple of weeks but i'll def. find out. Cheers Pete.
  13. Great catch guys, bet that put the old tickers into overdrive hauling them in !! Cheers Pete.
  14. Nice flatties and a pretty good haul in total Charles Cheers Pete.
  15. Hey Mate, Sorry for late reply, haven't gone with any yet however will probably go with the 305, there is actually a thread about a guy who purchased the 305 on the sydney fish finder forum within the last week, you could go on there and ask him what he thinks. Cheers Pete.
  16. Hi dave, I like to fish the northern beaches when i can. Still finding my way around the area though and have generally only fished nth Narrabeen and a bit at palm beach around the back off the rocks and you ? Cheers Pete.
  17. Interesting info re: the gutters and where the waves break as i have tried to read the ocean by getting to the beach a bit before the sun goes down and fairdinkum, apart from a shitload of water and waves crashing on top of each other i could not tell, i can't tell where rips are and i guess i have untrained eyes which is why i don't swim at bondi - couldn't handle getting dragged up on the beach by one of the life savers gasping for air then being filmed for the show bondi rescue. I can spot a nice ass a mile off. I need to spend less time looking at bums and more time watcing waves !! Cheers Pete.
  18. Impressive catch, never caught bream from the beach before. Cheers Pete.
  19. G'day Pal, I haven't pulled any of my reels apart yet but one thing i do do is spray with inox on the moving parts and take the spool off and spray a bit under there. Also before i fill a spool with line i spray the spool lightly also. It doesn't stop you cathing fish ( i'm proof of that ) and have been using it for 1 1/2 years now and no probs so far. Cheers Pete.
  20. rippa, Only discusing the other day if the lures that the papers give away ever actually worked. It is now fact !! Good stuff on the catch. Cheers Pete.
  21. G'day Pal, Both very light rods regardless and i'm looking at the sea jigger rod myself and didn't even consider the diawa rod only because i didn't know about it. I was told only on the weekend that lifting dead weights from the water was not good for graphite rods. i.e. the tip or the top third of the rod could snap off. I have read those problems mentioned about the broken jigger rods on the net some where however diawa did replace them. Generally netting your catch is more appropriate which is what you see the guys doing on those fishing shows when fishing off a boat for example. I was only wanting the rod to spin for tailor and salmon. The tackle shop that mentioned about brokentips was talking about the okuma x factor rods which are a great rod in their own right but like everything - it has a purpose!! Cheers Pete.
  22. Good to know all this guys as i asked this question on another forum and not much response. Keen to spin for the first time and keep the local tackle shop in business as much as i can and buy some lures. Cheers Pete.
  23. Nice catch matey, i believe in karma, what goes around comes around eventually for those who keep the undersized. Cheers Pete.
  24. I'm a bit of a sucker for the old penn spinfishers, i have the 450, 550 650 750 and 850ss, have bought a few for spares since they're not made anymore. Great reel, pulled my old mans one apart a few months ago just out of curiosity and all the grease inside was like concrete. Funny thing was you couldn't tell if you were using it. One of the true great reels ever made in my opinion when things were built to last. Cheers Pete.
  25. Hi Ray, Re: which one, below is the info on all aerowave glass rods, Model Length Pieces Rating Lure Weight Light Surf 3.66m 2pc 4-8kg 1/2-3oz Medium Surf 3.66m 2pc 5-8kg 1-4oz Heavy Surf 3.66m 2pc 6-12kg 2-6oz Medium Surf WB 3.78m 2pc 5-8kg 1-4oz Med-Hvy Surf WB 3.78m 2pc 6-10kg 2-5oz Heavy Surf WB 3.78m 2pc 6-12kg 2-6oz The ones with WB in the description have a sand spike which is what i would go for and seriously - all these rods are under $100 so not much in the grand scheme of things. Either the Med-hvy to hvy rod pending what you want to catch. As for the reel - perhaps a penn spinfisher 650, not a bad reel to start with. How about a penn spinfisher 650. there going for around the 120 mark i think. I had purchased an angler azagaie 12ft rod for $74 which is rated 8-12kg for rock fishing when it's wet. Great blank but built with cheap compoents i.e. guides, real set, does the job but i fish from the beach with my snyder or gary howard. These rods are upwards of 200. Hope this helps. Cheers Pete.
