  1. anyone been out at all this week? Looking forward to this weekend, the forecast ain't bad, hopefully the fish come to play
  2. I went to the fish markets today looking for pillies and the only ones obvious were for $7kg and food grade. On questioning one shop had frozen pillies for $10/2kg and they look pretty good. Far better than trap bait pillies, we got some of those from a shop in the Sutherland Shire a few weeks ago and they were terrible. Dan
  3. Have a spare spot on Sunday for hopefully an experienced deckie who's looking to enjoy the day out wide chasing YFT. Must be willing to share costs. Dan
  4. Elite I wouldn't be taking that boat past the 12 Mile. It's all well and good to say you can do anything in any boat in the right conditions but without experience you might miss the tell tale signs that things are about to turn for the worse and find yourself a loooooooong way from home, not a place you want to be. I've fished over the shelf at Bermi in a 3.8m Savage Snipe when I was a kid. I wouldn't do it now I have a better appreciation of what can go wrong.
  5. And Slink, what makes you think your TLD's aren't up to it? There isn't that many fish in the ocean that a TLD can't handle. You're getting serious and specific if you MUST have a Tiagra. Not suggesting you shouldn't, but the TLD's and Tyrnos are great bang for your buck
  6. Glad to hear it. I love my Shimano's but they do need some competition to keep them on their toes.
  7. I was talking to a mate who owns a tackle store in Vic recently and he suggested staying away from Penn these days which goes against everything that was true when I was a kid. He reckons unless you can get something that is made in the USA from them, that most of it comes out of China now and isn't built to last like they used to be.
  8. Great to see. I've been down the coast playing with SBT at Bermi but can't wait to get out here this weekend and strike it rich. The SBT have absolutely nothing on a yellowfin. Keep up the good work gents Dan
  9. might have to have a look on saturday. What site are you using jerryadams?
  10. Great work mate, very jealous. We tried but couldn't succeed. Were you guys the ones I could hear on the vhf at Heatons? Dan
  11. Well done mate saw u out there that day it was too nice for us unfortunately
  12. Well done mate don't feel bad u did what you could to revive. I recently had the same experience in my "tinnie" (same as yours) off bermi but was lucky enough to see mine swim away healthy. Keep up the good work Dan
  13. Sounds terrible. Rather jealous. I only got one gummy for Saturday down here. Well done.
  14. I wouldn't call them reels. The word Asprin comes to mind. And when you try to return them for their supposed warranty, don't expect them to cover their product. They'll try and put it back on you, claiming you dropped them overboard. Overboard. When you never fish in less than 15m of water. Overboard means no warranty claim posible in that depth cause I'm not going in to get it clown. It's ok, I spoke to consumer affairs. Hopefully the rest of you who have been duped do too.
  15. Stinny, Stay away from anything tufftackle. I bought a few of their reels thinking I'd give them a shot, why not? Good price, good warranty, claims that they're good reels. When they fell apart after 2 uses (all 3 reels, what a coincidence) and were returned tufftackle simply claimed they had been killed by immersion and were not going to be covered by warranty. I fish offshore. Immersion means it's staying there forever. They had been sprayed by salt and fell apart, let alone immersion.
  16. Note that I never said the solid Mako's were 50kg finin, especially on 24, I agree that's no sport at all. I'd present a 50kg Mako something on 4 or 6. Solid to me is also well into triple figures, and it'll never run with the power of a big YFT or Marlin anyway. On the other hand, a 50kg SBT (bluefin)on 15kg will give any reel a good workout and the Tyrnos 30 did it well. They are a good reel. If only we all had the coin to enjoy a selection of Tiagras the world would be a better place, but to make gamefishing affordable to us peasants, the Tyrnos is good value.
  17. If you can, get to Westernport. I fish there every weekend and haven't been out in the last month without bagging on Snapper, my PB though for now is only 7kg but that's going to change this weekend. A horrible bycatch when fishing for the reds regular gummies, you'll get at least one on nearly every trip, and Westernport suffers from plenty of gummies even up to 30kg. Westernport is the go. I fish whenever I can, regardless of the weather if you don't mind getting wet. You've got shelter in any wind no matter the direction, just pick which lee side of French Island or Phillip Island you like, and there are ramps everywhere. Looking forward to the warmer waters coming down bringing me some of your Mako's in a month or so. If you do consider heading this way (rather than PPB or Corio) please feel free to PM me and I'll send you my number for some more detail. Dan
  18. I've got a Tyrnos 50 and I love it. I've caught solid Mako's on it, SBT (not barrells though). I did get a 50kg SBT on a mates tyrnos 30 and it was beautiful to use. I've used Tiagras and though I'd love a selection of them, the Tyrnos represent great value to me.
  19. Great work mate. How did you rate their fight? I reckon they've got nothing at all on a yft or big albacore. Apart from sheer size of the barrels.
  20. G'day folks, my name is Dan, been fishing since I could hold a rod, haven't stopped. Currently in Vic but moving up in march. I've alerady started researching the fishing I'm that keen! Prefer to Game Fish, not much to chase in Vic but have taken some great SBT lately and a few nice Mako's back in Jan before the ban. Will be coming up with a boat ready to Game Fish but no crew. Will be living either Nth Beaches or maybe around Gosford so if you're without a boat but have some gear, keep me in mind. Can't wait to join you all away from this wonderful winter weather.
  21. the couta are usually only used for bait. They tend to have a lot of worms. I've caught a few Mako's on them so they make good baits.
  22. I think we have the first nominee for the "deckie of the year" award
  23. Fantastic effort mate. Very well done. D
