  1. Heading out to Broken Bay on Sat with my eldest and one of his mates who loves fishing but hasn't really been outside so hoping to leave him with a memorable day. WIll be keeping an eye on that forcasted southerly!!!!! Cheers, Vic
  2. Many thanks for the heads up and apologies for the late reply as I just got back. The beach scene was real quiet on the 1st week very cold water but managed a few good sized Whiting and Tarwhine. The second week proved awsome as the water warmed up and I hit the ledge on the southern end of the beach tpwards little beach and picked up some nice Snapper and a Jew. Got 2 school Jew off Korora on 6" shads one afternoon. Best of all I was helping a guy who was beach launching his boat on the southern end and asked if I'd like to go out as all his mates exited for the holidays and needed a hand, I wasn't to say no. Had a great time as the run out to Black Rock is so short where we picked up livies and had a ball with the Kings and scored some nice Snapper as well as a few XOS Pearlies. I really envy you guys you have so many options. Cheers, Vic
  3. Heading up to Emerald Beach (Coffs Harbour) next week with the clan for 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone could recommend any spots to throw some lures out. I went up last year and had a good time on the beach with the Whiting and Jew but I like to see if I could find some Tailor etc. Many Thanks, Spic
  4. I find placing the 1st hook thru their nose as on a Yakka this area is hard and have never had one come off or die. I also run another sliding hook with alot of alsck and pin him just at the top of the tail. WOrks a treat for me. Cheers, Spic
  5. This becomes quite an emotional subject but I believe we should learn some lessons from the Europeans where they have realised that commercial fishing of estuaries is not sustainable and many countries have banned commercial fishing completly in their rivers. Our rivers are so precious as they are our nurseries/future stocks. Maybe it's just me but I always scratch my head when I see trawlers working in the Hawkesbury when the whole ocean is available to them.
  6. Many thanks for the tips guys!!!!! I hoped onto Google Earth and Mackeral Beach looks like a prime possie. There is always the jetty to try as well. Planning to wet a line this weekend and will plan an early start and see if I can boat a few of these morsels. Again many thanks, Spic
  7. I've been fishing the Broken Bay area for quite a few years now and have never really mastered the art of catching squid. Tried a few times around West Head with no sucess. I always take my 2 sons and the times we have tried we have had 3 lures in the water all of different colours and drift with slow retrieves. I'm just not sure where to target them, are they right up close to shore or futher out. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated as with the Kings making a good show this year I'd like to give the Squid a good crack this year. I have a boat so I'm not limited to locations. Many Thanks, Spic
  8. What's new their taking all our prime fishing spots now their going to charge us for the privlege of launcjung our boats to fish the desert
  9. Noticed on Sunday that a local resident was taking down post codes from everyone entering the ramp. When I asked they claim the petition was to improve the ramp facilities but I'm suspicious. I get the feeling that now that the Mooney ramp has been upgraded their pushing to close Parsley Bay. Anyone know any more on this?
  10. Hey thanks guys appreciate all the feedback. Sounds like a trip out to Broken Bay Wide is in the planning and give the bruisers a run for their money
  11. I've been fishing Broken Bay for a few years now and was wondering if someone could help me out with a few spots to Jig Kings? My understanding is that this time of year they tend to head out wide to the deeper reefs. I've seen a few reports of guys picking them up on the Pearch grounds but have now idea where they are. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Spic
  12. Kept up with our tradition of wetting a line on Good Friday, have done with my dad since I was 5. Now it's me my 2 sons and my Dad. Anyway left Brooklyn at 5.00am and headed straight for Hole in the Wall and fished in close with floaters for 8 Reds ranging from 38cm to 45cm. By about 8.00am when the sun got up a bit higher all went dead. I can't believe how calm it was today absolutely glorious. Headed out to Reggies to find the DAMM leatheries there in plague proportions, on go the wire rigs and my 2 boys had a blast. Pulling in one after the other. AFter a while decided to move in a bit closer and things went quiet when my youngest son started grunting I'm thinking what the hell when I see his rod bowed over and struggling to keep the rod tip up. He's playing this fish with all his might and was offered help on a number of occassions but was so focused on boating this fish that he didn't even answer. Anyway he finally got up to the surface and we got the net under him, a nice Mowie. He was so proud, that proud that he nagged me to post this up tonight,, very tired now!!! After boating the famous Mowie we decided to call it a day. What a great way to spend a Friday
  13. I think we are all in agreeance that commercial fishing of our rivers is madness and we do have the numbers so how do we go about getting this issue out in the open. Surley they must be a forum where we could atleast get the general media onto it? Time for action!!!
  14. Damm wind that sounds a bit like my Saturday outing, get messy when that southerly picks up.
  15. My Dad fished Berrorwa yesterday for 5 Bream, 1 flattie and a few rays. No Jew which I told him as the pressure dropped but he wouldn't listen
  16. I failed to mention in my report that out wide off Broken Bay last Sat they were thick, kept on getting caught in the lines ans stung the young fella a few times.
  17. Not sure looks a bit different to this one Omoline
  18. Left Parsley Bay & 4.00am and headed out to West head for Yakkas and as we were starting to get our bait in order my son says "Dad where are the knives" AHHHHHHHHH I can't believe that I left them on the bench at home in the garage. What now,,,, we worked out a way of stripping squid with a 8/0 hook. Anyway managed a few Yakkas and decided to head out to the Flathead Grounds @ 60mt line as I've been struggling this year to get a feed of Flatties. Arrived and first bait down sees my young fella bring up a huge Chinaman Leather Jacket. I'm thinking not again, every time I've ventured out the last couple of times all I seem to find is Leatheries. Pickedup a few more and started to make our way in working right down to the 50mt line for the same result damm leatheries. The only difference was they got smaller as we got shallower. After what seemed like a lifetime of tying lines up the wind started to really howl and the swell was really starting to pick up. Headed into East Reef for nothing, did a few drifts past West Reef for a few XOS Tarwhine I haven't seen one of these fellas for a while. Decided to call it a day as the Bay was really getting nasty. Ah well no flatties but got a good feed of Leatheries, starting to get used to them. On a seperate note my son caught this little guy while we were drifting past West Reef any ideas what species he maybe??? As an idication the hook is a 4/0 and he has a prety nasty mouth. Will be landbased for a few weeks, got to keep the happy Can't complain as I'm off to Adelaide for business in March and am going to stay the weekend and I'm off on a charter out of Port Hughes for those big SA Snapper. Taking the camera so hopefully will have some good pics to post. Cheers, Spic
  19. Gave the flatties a try today and didn't see one Started at 60m and worked my way in and everywhere I went came accross damm leather jackets. Ah well atleast I got a feed.
  20. What a tossssser, caught red handed and still denies it
  21. Hopefully going to give Broken Bay Wide a go this weekend and give the 50-60 mark a go. Haven't ventured that way before and am going to try new avenues this year. Will let you know how I went.
  22. Yes your right I've been working the 50 line but I'll try a bit wider. Have you managed a few lately?
  23. My word they did, had the sister inlaw over with her clan and managed to polish them all. I was just talking to a guy at work and it's strange how there are no stripies around. Usually their thick this time of year
  24. I don't know if I'm loosing my touch but I just can't seem to get onto a patch of decent flatties outside. In previous years I was always able to get a good feed but this year has seen my with not one. Is it just me or have other having the same frustration?
  25. Hey Davy I think someone else has picked up on your barbeque idea as when I was heading out on Sat there as a group there swtup with a barby going. Smelled real nice as we cruised by.
