  1. This is a general rule for me, if something is too cheap without a reason, it probably lacks in quality. Also you have to give more description or a photo of the kayak that your talking about for people to give you more information.

I can tell you that my friend brought a kayak from an online auction website for $500 (brand new). It doesnt perform very well and he ended up getting another kayak. thats $500 wasted. You cant even sell those kayaks because no one trust the brand.

  2. Hey fellow raiders, I am very interested in fishing around the oil wharf at kurnell, because i heard it is a very good fishing spot. I was wondering, are we allowed to fish near or next to the oil wharf on a boat? the reason i ask is i am hoping to catch some yellowtail/squid/garfish for bait near the wharf. If we are not allowed to fish near the wharf, how far away do we need to be? and where do everyone collect their live bait when they fish at botany bay?

    Thanks for the help guys

  3. hey guys, i recently had a chat with a stranger about game fishing at rose bay. He told me the process of gaming fishing are as followed

    1. collect live bait (slimy)

    2. look for a certain temperature in the water because bait fish are there

    3. run skip bait to make the bait fish swim towards the surface

    4. run skirts to catch tuna and marlin

that is roughly what i heard.

Anyhow i am interested in game fishing and would like to know more details about the process of targeting king, tuna and marlin.

1.I would like the know temperature do you look for in the water?

2.How do you rig skip bait?, What is skip bait?, Is the skip bait trolled at a depth or at the surface?

3.If i been told the wrong stuff, how do you guys target tuna and how far do you go offshore?

    Thanks for the help

  4. beat me to it

hell the thing would fly with that many ponies!

i guess the question he wanted to ask is 80HP enough to make my boat fly :yahoo:

  5. My girlfriend was really keen to learn how to fish and catch bonitos off the rocks. She asked me over the month to go, but i always had work to do and i never had time. And finally, i had time today to go fishing. We wanted to catch tailor at night, so we went to fish around 3am, but the weather was pretty bad. It started to rain heavily and we heard what seems to be a landslide. With no fish in sight we planned to go back to the car and sleep till the morning and see what happens from there.

After 8.30am tide is going down, but it is so raining. We decided to give another go at the rocks to see if we could get some bonnies. I was teaching my girlfriend how to set the rod up how to cast and etc, but the whole day we did not catch one bonnie at all. Around 12pm our luck turned., i started to get my first trevally, and it was a quite decent size first too. Then a few minutes later my girlfriend hooked up as well and the best thing is hers was almost as big as mine.

Throughout the day we kept catching trevs ranging from 33-37cm! It was really fun despite the fact that we were sunburn. it was her best fishing trip ever. We also landed a salmon together. it was a team effort.

here is a photo of the trev we caught!post-15091-019341800 1289918953_thumb.jpg

    post-15091-049533000 1289919017_thumb.jpg and another one.

We didnt take the picture of the salmon because we released it and forgot the take a picture.I do not really like the taste of salmon and releasing it to fight another day was just a win win situation.

  6. Hi Experts,

    Hope you are well.

I am doing my research on rods and reels for catching either salmon, kings or Tailors (Mostly Landbased). My budget is around $400. I've been looking through the internet all day but there are so many kinds... it is doing my head in.

What would be the moderate gear settings for catching decent size tailors or salmons?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

    James

what is your definition of decent size? and where landbased are you fishing? the rocks or jetty?

I use penn 950ssm + 10ft ugly stick, from memory you can get it for $130 the reel and $105 for the rod at a shop

    30lb braid

if you fish at the jetty, you can even use bream stick and 2500 reel to catch decent size fish.

caught a decent size australian salmon but you needed the help of a net because you can lift it up.

    used slade 2500 and catana

    hope that helps

for $400 you can get a stradic and a decent rod

  7. West Winds are really bad for fishing, as it bring lots of dust off the top of the mountains and showers it straight into the water, the fish go deep and go off the bite.

Clifton is OK, but its overcrowded and full of id10t's and drunk/stoners who have little or no respect for other anglers or the local area- there are better places to fish IMO that are less crowded and produce same quality fish as there does. Its a great spot for squid and yakkas though if you can squeeze in among all the other anglers with 50lines each running out- not ideal place to learn the local area if you ask me

Also, Clifton attracts a park use fee these days and you have to enter via gates and cannot exit without paying... if you are prepared to walk 1/2km down and up the hill you might be lucky to find parking on the road so you dont have to pay for parking, lol

There a nice wharf next to the Harbour Bridge (I think its called Jeffrey street wharf) and fishing is allowed 24/7 you just gotta make way for the commuters and ferry traffic, its a great spot for Bream and for catching yakkas, and have heard of other species taken from there aswell... all round a good spot...

There are plenty of other wharves around, and many will be packed out on weekends, you just gotta find a spot and hope for the best when you get there, but I dont fish Ferry Wharves anymore (and Ive fished them for ages with mates) simply because of the amount of people traffic and other anglers in those areas- highly overcrowded with people and many choose to keep undersized fish... I rather stick to my own spots and catch less fish but they are better quality and I dont have to worry about anyone else... I can assure everyone there ARE real secret spots inside the harbour that are virtually untouched by human hands and they produce good fish time after time, with some patience, good bait and some berley you will be well on ya way to a feed...and regularly!

Double bay is nice but be aware that some Ferry Wharves over the Eastern Suburbs its illegal to fish - or some have restricted fishing hours and they use CCTV to monitor activities on and off the wharves... Again if you want to try there make sure you obey any signage else you might be up for a large fine if you disobey local council and waterways.

    Good luck locating a spot

    Tight lines

    Anthony

    :)
