  1. Hey guys I am trying to explore wharves at the harbour. I saw this cliffton garden pleasure ground looks nice, but i dont know if its fisherable there or not.

Also the wind this weekend goes as high as 30knots, and i be doing bread fishing with no weight.

I dont if i will be productive or not under that condition.

  2. I have seen the same thing at many good fishing spots around Sydney.

This disgusting behavior is costing us in a long run. They may think it's just a plastic bag or a some left over bait which gulls will come and help with clean up.

Two things that will make me feel disgusted.

    1. Taking undersize catch

    2. Literring

I totally agree with you! I hate people catching and keeping undersize fish! there is a certain type of people that likes to do that. U see it too often. These people often dont have licence! no ethics at all! and THEY CANT FISH! thats why they keep undersized fish!

As with littering, once i brought one of my family friend's son. his like 9, and he actually littered right infront of me. he threw a plastic bag into the water. JUST because it was easy. took me a good 10-15minutes to get it out of the water. It is so embarrassing for me and for asians. I never went fishing with him again.

  3. i heard its not that time of the year to go jb yet. you need the waters to be warmer to go up there to chase tuna and that. you can catch kings bonito and salmon in sydney thats me assuming u live in sydney.

  4. it depends on if your fishing at the jetty or at the rocks. At the jetty, wind that is blowing your way means that you could not get your cast out if your using lures and that. if your fishing at the rocks and the wind is blowing your way, but the swell is good therefore relatively big, you dont have to cast it far and you can just feed the line and the bait floats out!

So it just depends if your fishing at the jetty or at the rocks

  5. Hey guys im thinking of respooling to a new braid as spring is coming. Im using this braid to cast at jetties. it is used for soft plastics and small metal lures such as 3g metal lure, pencils and squid jigs.

braid in mind are the spiderwire 6lb or 8lb ultra cast or ultra cast invis.

I was just wondering if the braid is fused or non fused braid. and any feedback on these braids are appreciated.

    thank you

  6. today i went to my local tackle shop to buy a pencil to try it out to see how it is like. got a sugar minnow lipless. 50mm 4.8g and it is a sinking pencil. anyone know much about my pencil?

just wondering what kind of techniques people use for their pencil and what have they caught consistantly with it? I have seen a photo of someone catching squid with it.

    thanks in advance

  7. I've only had limited success on bream with soft plastics, but in the Hacking I have had more success with flattys and garfish. Flathead is probably the easiest target for the soft plastic novice (like me :biggrin2: ), you pretty much have to drag the plastic in front of its face and you're on. Bream are far more wily and someone else will explain the techniques required there, however I wouldn't think 3inch is overly large for your target species - just means you're less likely to hook pinkies and pickers.

    Cheers,

    Adam.

garfish? i would love to catch those for live bait. any techniques on catching it? i think 3inch might be a bit big because the bait fishes and prawns and that aint that big.

  8. I been trying my soft plastics to catch fish for awhile now. Im trying to target whatever i can get. But i would like to catch trevelly, bream and sambo, the fighting type. I have caught a couple of sambo, but nothing else, wait i caught a numb ray the other day as well. I been using 3inch berkley plastic for a while. i was wondering if i am not doing well because my plastics are too big, 3inch is like 8 cm. Also what kinda fish can i get with plastics around port hacking landbased?

    thanks in advance

  9. Hi Yeeros.

Well stated mate, I have fished near twenty seasons on these ledges and could not have said it better. The only thing I would say is don't scratch it off your list Landbasenewbie take a trip down pack your self a feed and a camera and spend a day down there this season just to see what its all about and if your lucky you might see some action you will never forget. Landbase Addiction is a good movie if the trips too far. P.S people will tell you that you can walk in to Drum & Drum Stick and even my old spot at Devils Gorge but it will not be Marine Parks that prosecute you its the Navy. One more thing ring the range before you go as it may be closed I have been caught out before because i didnt bother to check.

    All the best.

    Scotty

thanks dude, ill do more research on it.

  10. TLD 30 and 50lb line means your limited to just Kingfish. To fish this tackle in peak season is a waste of time as if you do hook a marlin it WILL spool you and make lots of others very upset. to fish for Tuna your too heavy to geta good drift with smaller baits and you'll probably only have 400m of line on so if you get a good fish you'll get spooled. to fish JB successfully you need at the MINIMUM a TLD 50 loaded with fine diametre 24kg line to get 700-800m on it. Most people use Tiagra 50's with 1000m of 24kilo as standard. There is a reason for this, spend enough time dowwn there and you'll see the reason.

JB is not some majic spot where you put a bait out and there are millions of massive fish waiting to take your bait. It's a great spot if your willing to put in massive days and nights.

For my money there are just as good kings off sydney and central coast if you know how to catch them. Drum and Drumsticks is off limits thanks to our friends in the Navy, also to send somebody out there that is new anyway is dangerous as to get to the front of JB usually means climbs in and out! There is also talk of the Navy closing the Tubes due to the amount of Rubbish being left behind by fisherman and they are serious about it as well. So if anybody heads down take your rubbish with you.

My advice would be to stick with Avoca and Sydney till you learn rigs, how to fight fish, bait, presentation and most importantly etiquete, etiquete is very big at JB ansd its something you don't often see at Avoca as you don;t run 100+ metre drifts.

I'm putting my money where my mouth is and after doing 3 seasons at JB i'm chasing kings this year mainly from the Central Coast, Sydney and Wollongong. I'll head to JB if the Marlin show up, but last year they showed up for 3 days and were gone! Most of the guys that got fish lived on those rocks for weeks to get those fish midweek, so if you head down in peak season don't expect to get a spot. If you do make sure to remember that at JB live bait takes priority over casting a pillie or a lure (etiquete).

p.s Are you the dude that was at Avoca last weekend that i helped out and tied the snell rig for the squid? If you are I'll be up there again on Sunday having a bash at the sambo's again.

No i wasnt that dude, i went before that. I did catch a few birds. =P if i go to avoca, ill pm you and let you know. Hope i can learn a few things from you. and i hate people leaving rubbish behind toO.
