Hi Troutboy I fish for them with the same way as black fish only I use dough with a little cotton wool mixed through. It is very important to make sure your hook is exposed. Most people I have taken with me tend to strike too early I have seen the same fault with beginers when fishing for Black fish, you need to have a very gentle and relaxed but confident strike. I use a No 8 suicide hook and always bend a little more off set in it. Dont forget to add a little vasoline on your line to keep it on top of the water and yes I use small amonts of bread for berly but not the crust as it sometimes floats even after it is soaked and if it floats it will drift away and take the mullet with it. I catch these any time of day all day as I said before I have not caught a carp for ages but the herring can spoil a day. Many years ago we also would fly fish for them. I also let all of them go as I don't eat fresh water fish but mullet from the salt water I don't mind I hope this helps mate, if I can be of more help let me know.
