  1. Hi Yeeros. Well stated mate, I have fished near twenty seasons on these ledges and could not have said it better. The only thing I would say is don't scratch it off your list Landbasenewbie take a trip down pack your self a feed and a camera and spend a day down there this season just to see what its all about and if your lucky you might see some action you will never forget. Landbase Addiction is a good movie if the trips too far. P.S people will tell you that you can walk in to Drum & Drum Stick and even my old spot at Devils Gorge but it will not be Marine Parks that prosecute you its the Navy. One more thing ring the range before you go as it may be closed I have been caught out before because i didnt bother to check. All the best. Scotty
  2. A Big thanks to my old mate and fellow Raider "Gameon" who took me out to The Peak on Sunday morning. We arrived with the water at 17.2 deg and a light S.E breeze droped down to only bring up Nannygai and this didnt last long as the they started coming up with only the head left so even when we did make it to the bottom we could not even get a fish back to the top without been eaten alive by the jackets. So got a feed of nice size jackets before heading back in to the light house for some nice flathead before the wind changed and picked up. Then headed into the bay to finsh off with a bit of fun on some trevally, all in all another great day spent fishing with great company
  3. Well done mate I hope to get there next year. Great pictures also. All the best. Scotty
  4. Hi Pete, Have you thought about a small multi hull like a webster I have had a hydofield tri hull and great in the rough and very stable. If I had the money my next and last boat would be a webster but that suits my style of fishing but may not suit you. good luck with the choice Pete.
  5. Hi Troutboy I fish for them with the same way as black fish only I use dough with a little cotton wool mixed through. It is very important to make sure your hook is exposed. Most people I have taken with me tend to strike too early I have seen the same fault with beginers when fishing for Black fish, you need to have a very gentle and relaxed but confident strike. I use a No 8 suicide hook and always bend a little more off set in it. Dont forget to add a little vasoline on your line to keep it on top of the water and yes I use small amonts of bread for berly but not the crust as it sometimes floats even after it is soaked and if it floats it will drift away and take the mullet with it. I catch these any time of day all day as I said before I have not caught a carp for ages but the herring can spoil a day. Many years ago we also would fly fish for them. I also let all of them go as I don't eat fresh water fish but mullet from the salt water I don't mind I hope this helps mate, if I can be of more help let me know. Scotty
  6. Well I was lucky enough to get a bit of time yesterday afternoon to gather 5 crickets so off I went early this morning before the kids got up. I got to the river and found a spot under a nice willow tree placed a cricket on a small hook dancing on the water surface adout 5 ft from the shore the poor little cricket only lasted adout 10 sec this was the first of three little thirty cm bass and one of about 10 cm so i moved up to the next willow in the hope of somthing a little bigger. As I took my eyes off the cricket it was hit and to my suprise a nice 47 cm catfish. Just one more thing I have been having some fun on mullet over the last few months and not once have I caught a carp infact I have not caught a carp up my end of the river for near 12 months am I just lucky or is the weed chokeing them out Anyway sorry I have no pictures I havnt learnt how to do that yet as I am a little old school but willing to learn. All the best.
  7. Good on ya Adam that great and this catch should keep you keen for the next one, I realy hope it will be your magic meter And dont worry about ya picture I'm yet to learn how to get a picture up. We never stop learning do we.
  8. Good one Pete, Im sure he will love it, How long did it take to get him on the plastics ?. I keep thinking about it but yet to try I guess I would have to give it a go if one of my young fellas landed home with a flash reel like that
  9. crabs seem to have stayed around this winter. Thanks for the report Darryl

  12. I filled my holes with a two part apoxy (Defcon)sanded and painted all good just like new. On my new motor I am not even going to try it should have enough power to do all I need
  13. And will be this weekend lets hope he stays dry and dont fall in the drink and if he thinks the snow melts before it hits the ground he might be in for a rude shock but good luck anyway Adam
  14. It don't leave much water for blokes like me that fish from a tinny as the buggers will even enter fresh water for short periods. Anyway these days prob got more chance of being mugged or car jacked on the way to your fishing spot than eaten by a shark either way it don't usually end well.
  15. 3.6 amp charger is fine. The lower amp rate you pump into a battery the better life you will get although the differance between the 3.6 and 7 amp charge rate is only small and as rick said he has had no trouble with this brand. I have a 30 amp charger cost about $600 and i have a cheap 2 amp charger that cost about $30 and I only use the cheap one it does the job and alot easyer to move around. It will charge my battery from near flat to full over night.
  16. Good on you Grant 17 years and I hope there is many more, its a real pleasure to read posts like this from time to time.
  17. Hi Adam, You have a few options starting from Goulburn you have the Wollondily river so you could try at Rossi weir or head out to Pejar dam on the way to Crookwell or if you are staying in Crookwell give the water supply out there a go I only ever fished these land based. Im not sure how they are fishing at the moment since I have been back in western syd for the last 12 months but there maybe a raider down there that can give you the latest info. Good luck Adam
  18. Good one, I bet you had fun with that fella
  19. Not long now spring is nearly here Kel its just a shame the the liazards where not as big as your 80cm squidgy but like ya said mate bring on the spring !!
  20. Good to see you still use some of the old gear, I get a kick out of catching a fish on one of my old solid glass rods. I don't bother with the cane ones would be just my luck to break it.
  21. Hi Jerad yes i have tried weed flys while we had our live baits out off Devils Gorge. I had a ball they worked great and was even lucky enough to get the odd drummer which was nearly as much fun as a king. But I have never tried else where with them.
  22. I always wondered about the light spectum as I know when I have been diving at about 20m all you see are shades of grey unless you introduce a light such as a torch then you see colour. I guess i just thought fish see colour or shades of grey different to us.
