  1. the lake is looking healthy. well done on the flatties. it'll only get better from here on in.
  2. 2 years ago this month the pros took 3.5 tons of kingfish out of pittwater over 2 days...and wrecked the season.
  3. Good report. I went out last week. The squid were plentiful, but no pelagics around. Managed tailor, bream and squire as by-catch. Hopefully the kingies and others turn up soon.

    Egimax

You could also try some berkley stimulate...works fine and is available locally.
  5. Bought the pro-lite around a month ago and it's very nice. For around $200 it's a great deal.
  6. didn't look or feel round to me...felt very similar to fireline.
  7. I've just picked up a Tierra 2500 from the US...retail under 130 AUD with the exchange.
  8. Nice work Rob! Get's my vote so far.
  9. Low diameter and no stretch is great for softplastics at any depth and also deep water jigging or bait fishing. Also great when you need to fit more line on your reel. You do need mono backing and a leader. Line digging into the spool is a problem but can be avoided by packing the line tightly. That said, some reels are better suited to braid than others. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages for certain applications. What kind of fishing will you doing? Run a search of this forum and you'll find plent more info.
  10. ditto on the kingies....ditto on the idiot. I wonder if it was the same one???
  11. not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet...but you'll probably want to put a couple layers of heavy mono line under the braid as well as backing. this gives it something to "bite" into and avoids the whole lot spinning around on the spool when under pressure.
  12. not a bad session...did you hear that the legal limit when up to 27cm? not as bad as kingfish going up to 65.
  13. Thanks David. That's helpful.
  14. thanks fellas...think I'll see what happens to the Stradic prices once the new models hit town. I'm still interested if anyone can review the diawa tierra... cheers.
  15. I saw that....wish I had the exta 200. I should have mentioned that I'm looking for something in the 2500 size.
  16. Looking for a new reel. It'll be mated to a Starlo Tournament Pro 7'3" Lite Spin. I currently have a Shimano Symetre and have no complaints...a very nice reel for the price. Is it worth moving into the next price bracket? I'm thinking of a Daiwa Tierra or maybe a Stradic (although that's pushing the budget). Cheers, Kit

    Haines V19r

Adam's selling his V19r. Plenty of room for fishing. He's mated it with a relatively new 150hp Suzuki. Goes hard. Send him a PM or give him a call. He'll be happy to chat about it.
  18. The snapper raider(5-8kg) and symetre 4000 is a very solid combo and will handle good size kings...I have mine spooled with 15lb tuffline. Great value for money. Can't go wrong.
  19. Hi Rob, My first thought is that it is due to the oscilation speed of the spool. The Sahara oscillates a lot faster than your Symetre 4000. This results in the braid being laid across itself rather than in parallel and would likely cause more tangles. and I agree....BRING ON SUMMER! Kit
  20. 10-12 lb leader is plenty...you can land kings on that.
  21. I'm going to hit narrabeen one evening this week as soon as the weather lets up. If anyone else is going, let us know. Kit
  22. what they said....symetre is the best value for money by a long way.
  23. It took me one year between getting 2 on a charter and catching them on my own. It's a great feeling. Hope you get one soon.
  24. I went out this morning in Pittwater with mate who wanted to catch his first king. The wind was up and the squid weren't cooperating. Had some frozen from the last trip so we headed over to a usual spot and stripped them up. Burlied up a bit and spent the next 2 hours releasing pickers and changing baits. Had a really solid hit on the heavy gear which took a large squid head but missed the single hook. With no bait and no burley left and the wind picking up we were about to head back when once again the kings decided to take the light gear. My 2-4kg flick stick was floating a strip out the back attached to 8lb fireline. The drag was set light and started to scream. I jumped up and started tightening the drag and my mate was like..."so you let them run?" I said, "no...I just can't stop him" With the symetre2500 as tight as I dared the first run was frightening...a good two moorings away now and moving fast. Yelled at my mate to bring in the lines and pull anchor. I started the motor with one hand and moved us past a boat that would have cut the line. The king slowed down and with the wind slowly pushing us away from the moorings it took me 15 minutes to get clear water and feel like we had a chance. My mate hadn't used a net much and after a few loud instructions the second attempt saw this little fella hit the deck... 70cm on 8lb fireline and 10lb leader. One good fish can make a trip...
