  1. someone must know what these retail for...
  2. Just found the specs through a link in stingray's for sale post...love this site. If anyone knows the retail price of these rods I'm still interested. I paid $99 and it looks a step up in quality from the trion series.
  3. Just bought a Pflueger President spinning rod (3-6kg) and can't find specs or retail prices anywhere on the web. Anyone know what these go for and what kind of graphite they use? Cheers, Kit

    2500 Or 3000

I need to make an order from the US today (a mate is bringing one over for me) so I won't be able to test which reel best suits the rod. I'm ordering either a 2500 or 3000 Daiwa Advantage to match an 8-14lb Daiwa Advantage rod. Both reels have 7kg of drag so it's just a matter of weight and line capacity. I'll be using 10-15lb braid for luring kings. I'm guessing it doesn't matter too much but if you have any thoughts I'd appreciate them. Cheers, Kit

    Pittwater

saturday was horrible...we couldn't pull any squid, even though we could see some tiny models sniffing around. no kings landed either. the weekend before was another story altogether...good size kings and heaps of squid. some days are like that. keep at it.

    Nitro Rods

or get both! I'm looking at a 4-6kg rod for similar reasons. My 5-8kg is a bit heavy and I've caught many of my kings on my 2-4kg (up to mid-70cms). If you're going to get smoked I'm not sure the difference between the 2 will be that significant. More fun on the lighter one.
  8. glad you had a good day despite the weather. nice kings.

    First Boat

Here is my first boat....a humble tinny (Bermuda 380 Dolphin with a 15 Yammy) and perfect for chasing kings in Pittwater and beyond. The previous owner kept her in immaculate condition and decked her out with all the goods. Kit
  10. Having to go off wheat has opened up a number of new recipes. Falafel mix (mostly chick pea flour) makes a great batter. It comes up very crispy (like tempura) and usually has some nice herbs and spices mixed in. Tried it on kingfish the other day and was fantastic. Kit
  11. Headed out on Sunday with Adam. Had a mate of mine on board for the first time. It was his birthday and he wanted to catch his first kingy. Headed out to the squid grounds nice and early only to find heaps of baitfish being smashed periodically by what we thought was kings. Quickly exchanged squid jigs for 3inch clear minnows. I landed a tailor, then my mate hooked a king and lost it after about 20 seconds. Then he lands what looked like a pike and then he was on again. 15 minutes later I netted a 76cm king. It was caught on a 2-4kg rod, 8lb fireline and 10lb leader. My mate also picked up a small cobia (about 40cm) a little later. Not to be entirely outdone, I managed a 74cm king on the same sp & 10lb braid (pb king for me and 1st on lure which I borrowed from Adam who was unlucky and couldn't hook an anchor rope that day if he tried). Here are the pics...a nice birthday present for my mate who you see fighting the second king. Thanks go to Adam for skippering on the day and going home emptyhanded. Cheers, Kit

    Braid Problem

I've been happy with all my fireline 4, 8lb on my 2-4kg rod and 30lb on my TLD. No problems with it. Never snapped it either! Just thought I'd try some non-fused braid as I have some 15 lb on my 4000 size outfit and it works well. I just spooled up the 10lb line system which is significantly thicker than the 6lb and it seems to have solved the problem. I'll probably spool the other one with some fireline and compare the two...at least I'm back on the water. Frustrating after forking out for a new outfit only to have the old one out perform it. Thanks for all the responses. Feel free to keep them coming...

    Braid Problem

    Thanks Ceph...that's helpful.
  14. Caught the flattie on a livey last autumn in Narra Lake...72cm and nice and fat on 6lb mono. Caught the squid 1st cast in Pittwater last month at my favourite spot. 38cm on the mantle! new pb. sorry about the sideways pics...
  15. Hey guys, Recently spooled up some 6lb Line System which is ridiculously thin. I can hardly feel it let alone see it on the water. It's on my new Tierra 2500 mated to a Starlo Stix Pro 7'3" 2-4kg rod. The problem is that I'm getting heaps of wrap knots up in the las couple of guides when casting. Seems to cast very light weights ok, but anything over 2 grams is pathetic. Never had this problem with fireline (which is stiffer and thicker) so I'm wondering if it's because the line system is so fine and limp. I have another spool of 10lb that I can try to if the thickness improves the cast but before I crack the seal (and gamble $60) I wanted to hear whether I'm on the right track. Cheers, Kit p.s. check out my post on the brag board

    Narra Lakes

November is usually a good month. Last hour of light or first couple of hours should see you get onto some good flatties. A mate a I managed 5 in half an hour the other evening. 3 to 5 inch gulps will slay em.

    3-6kg Outfit

yeah...I'm torn...hence the post. I probably don't need to throw them that far as I fish predominantly in the harbour and pittwater (casting around moorings and markers). The accuracy of the baitcaster is attractive in that respect. 6" sluggos I'm guessing and varous flick baits. I used to own a calcutta 200 and do like the feel and play of the baitcaster. just not sure and this will be the last purchase I can convince the to approve for some time so I want to get it right. I currently have a shimano snapper raider with a 4000symetre but find this a little stiff and clunky to cast unweighted sluggos and strips (rated 5-8kg). It's great off the bottom and with heavier lures and kills the kings once hooked up. I'm wanting something in between this and my 2-4kg starlo stix pro lite/2500 tierra. thanks again for your suggestions, Kit

    3-6kg Outfit

thanks Red. How will the baitcaster go throwing unweighted sluggos and squid strips. Are they heavy enough to cast on a 3-6kg rod?

    3-6kg Outfit

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase an outfit in the 3-6kg range and will be primarily using it to hunt kings using unweighted/weighted sluggos and squid strips. I was thinking of a Daiwa Advantage 3000 with either a Diawa Saltwater or Starlo Stix Pro in terms of a spinning outfit...but now I'm wondering whether a casting outfit might be better suited? Thoughts and recommendations appreciated...budget around 400-500 AUD for the combo. Cheers, Kit
  20. No, I was asking about the 3-6kg. In the 2-4 for under 150 i'd go the dropshot or a pflueger trion soft plastic. I prefer these over the bream raiders. I spent a bit more and went the starlo stix pro lite. A very nice rod for 200.
  21. My plan exactly Marty. Which rod are you thinking? Will the 2500 be a bit light in terms of weight and drag capacity?
  22. I'm about to spool mine with 6lb braid on a starl stix pro lite (2-4kg). I don't think there's much need to go higher than 8lb or 10 lb braid, esp on the rod your using unless you're fishing around structure. As the guys have said, you'll be unlucky snap the fireline with the drag capacity of the tierra.
  23. just thinking about your outfit....it's a bit heavy for the lake. I fish 2-4kg rod with a 2500 size reel. Your line is spot on. A lighter combo will allow you to switch between bait and soft plastics. I use soft plastics 90% of the time. It eliminates most of the undersize fish...though the tailor will cut them up from time to time. Live bait is also a great way to go. Good luck with it. Kit
