  1. Mate, I've just gone through the PM trail and I don't have your phone number. The last PM I got says Long Reef was likely off due to crappy winds and you might be going to Bare Island and you would let me know. I replied saying I'd probably be around Hen & Chicken Bay and was waiting for your call or message but received neither so just naturally assumed you weren't going.
  2. The scupper intake needs to be facing the same direction as you are. Keep the rudder straight. Turn the livewell on and then peddle as hard as you can. You should notice the sound of the livewell change once water has started pumping in. This might sound silly but my first attempt, I forgot to take the pump cap off inside lol. If still no joy, you may need to change your scupper tube. There’s also a YouTube video by Hobie that demonstrates the process. I only watched it last week. Another tip is to keep eye out for some smallish waves and peddle straight into them. It will increase the chances of water feeding through the scupper holes. Cheers Paul
  3. Yeah that's the Hobie livewell. Took a few goes to get it primed. After talking to a few people I should use a longer scupper tube. They get used alot in bream comps. There are cheaper alternatives...YouTube "pimp my pro angler." Here's a photo with a bream in it. Mate, I prefer keeping good company over good kayak models. You can have a go on it when we head out and I’ll trial your one.
  4. Gday raiders Just going through my phone and found a photo I took of a fish I caught a few weeks ago at Roseville. Nothing was on the bite on plastics that day except for these little pickers. Not exactly a table fish, but very cute. Any ideas? Cheers Paul
  5. Well done mate. Been out to Roseville 3 times the past month and I haven't had much luck with any plastics there (between the cable and bridge). Like you, switching to unweighted prawns always seems to do the job for smallish bream and pinkies. Might have to launch the yak out there for better results.
  6. Hey mate Parramatta River * Kissing Point Wharf (obey the signs)- bream, small tailor, people have caught jewfish there. * Exile Bay or Canada Bay (parking available at Bayview Park) - bream, flathead, small tailor. * Hen and Chicken Bay - bream & flatties. I fished off my kayak and got my PB flatty there but should be fishable from land. * Meadowbank Wharf (obey the signs)- see alot of people fish there and the jetty but never seen anyone catch anything or heard reports. * Banjo Patterson Park (Looking Glass Bay)- there's a wharf down there but only seen small fish getting caught there though. Cheers Paul
  7. Any parts of the lake better than others? I'm thinking of taking a chance near the Ocean Street Bridge soon.

    Exile Bay

That's a shame. Haven't really checked out sizes and weights yet, just means bigger lures for bigger fish Not sure about shops but I've seen them online.
  9. Hey NoviceFisherMan I was testing out plastics last night and got onto a 30cm flathead and a small bream. Used a 2.5" Z-Man GrubZ (Bloodworm) on 1/16oz Size 2 hook. Will be testing a few more at night this week (weather permitting) and let you know how I go. Cheers Paul

    Exile Bay

Mix up your retrieves? Sometimes I get in the zone and stubbornly focus on 1 retrieve for a period when I should be mixing it up.

    Exile Bay

Hi Joseph Normally 1/12 or 1/16 oZ with either size 1 or 2 hooks. I prefer TTLure jigheads but the one used to catch this was Berkley (1/16oz size 2) as my supplies were very low I'm gonna start using super glue to keep them locked to the top of the jighead from now on and when I run out, will look at testing out the HeadlockZ range. Leader was 8lb Sunline Fluorocarbon about 1m. Cheers Paul

    Exile Bay

Hey Raiders Decided to go for a very quick session just before the top of the tide to test out some new 2.5" Z-Man GrubZ (bloodworm) and to find out if SPs worked at night. Take a 5 minute drive to my usual spot in Exile Bay that normally produces small bream and flatties. Within the first 2 casts, I get a few bites but no takers. 3rd cast, BAM! I'm on. Pulled in this little fella (30cm). Fun fight on light tackle. Put him back in the water and had a few more casts and got onto a small bream before heading back home. Looks like SPs do work at night I'm very impressed with the Z-Mans, can't believe how strong they are. Will likely do a 30 minute session per night over the next week for some more tests and see how we go Cheers Paul
  13. Bream - Gulp Shrimp (Natural) Flathead - Lobby Pro (Grenade)
  14. Gday mate, there should be pictures on the back of the packet. Here's a video clip of how it's done: . Rig should be the same for bream and flatties. As for retrieves, you can mix it up and see what works best for you. I think it depends alot where you fish as well but I'm sure others can elaborate on what's worked for them. My personal preference is two twitch flicks up, let it drop to the bottom then slow reel rinse and repeat. Cheers Paul
  15. Cheers Trung , will have to try that next time... those frozen cokes is exactly what we had
  16. Great catch! Makes me wanna head there tonight!

    MH tonight

Hey Mr Ed, where do you park at night? I've wanted to do Roseville at night but the gates at Garigal National Park close at 7:00pm I think? Cheers Paul
  18. Peter The Revo needs to be in a group photo . We'll line up something very shortly. Looking forward to the next outing Alan
  19. Gday Raiders Headed to Chipping Norton with Alan AKA Adawg at six this morning for some kayak fishing with the intention of catching some bream, estuary perch or jewfish before the sweltering heat kicked in. Soon as we started casting, we were getting nibbles and it wasn't too long before there was a double hookup as I got a small tailor while Adawg's rod got some serious action. After about a 2-3 minute fight, he managed to land a very decent sized bream and a new PB. We didn't have a bragmat with us but the rails of the kayaks measured up to 30cm and it went well over. Adawg suggested 37cm but I'm willing to back him up for 39cm if anyone ever asks . Photo was snapped before we released the big fella back into the drink. Well done mate Things got a bit quiet shortly after so we decided to switch between lures from SPs to blades with a few snags in between whilst chatting about fishing on the way up the river. One of the funny things mentioned was how much S-Factor is like those flavoured oil satchets you find in a pack of Asian 2 minute noodles so I suggested we try that instead on our next trip haha. As we were peddling up, there was a boat anchored up with about 4 rods out at once and the man on it landed a decent sized bream and it looked like he was keeping it for consumption After switching from the lobby pros to the 2.5" Gulp shrimps, I was consistently getting bites again but unable to set the hook on any of the buggers on the retrieve. Several times the shrimps were just getting chomped in half. It wasn't until I was handing something to Adawg and not paying attention when a bream decided to smash my lure and my rod went crazy. After a quick and fun fight I managed to bring him in and we'd just setup the livewell earlier to test so we put him in there and would measure him and release him at the end of the trip. He came in at 29cm a new PB for me on lures and kayak Later on we decided to target EPs without any luck and we sorta just strayed our own way for a bit when I got an SMS from ADawg saying he landed a 31 cm bream . Shortly after, it was getting really hot and we decided to pack up and go to Maccas for lunch on the way home
  20. Hi 1Fish There are mud crabs in Parramatta River but I'd advise against eating any because of the high dioxins level. You're likely to find them around areas with Mangroves. In the past, I've caught mud crabs at other places using anything ranging from raw chicken pieces, pierced cans of tuna, pilchards in nets. In WA, my bare hands Cheers Paul
  21. Cheers mate, I only went there cos all the surfers were at North Narrabeen still and Turrimetta was empty Was trying to learn gutters and test out some new gear and techniques.
  22. Hey Broometime Yes you can fish the wharf but you have to give way to any boats and keep the area clean. There is a sign saying what times (morning) are prohibited as boat traffic is heavy. I've caught baby tailor and decent sized bream there but people have been getting Jew fish there from previous reports. Cheers Paul
  23. Hi Raiders Just wondering if anyone has fished the small beach north of the rock pool and caught anything? Not sure what it's called as it isn't named on Google Maps. Was there last night and decided to give it a flick for about 30 minutes before the wind and rain picked up. Cheers Paul
  24. G'day Raiders Decided to head out to Kissing Point Wharf around 10pm last night to test out how to use Sabiki rigs. Since my hands were already going to get dirty putting prawns on the rigs, I decided the rest of the nights fishing would be done with prawns. There were no yakkas out that way but managed to hook several small tailor so at least I know how the Sabikis work now . After a while though I managed to get the rig tangled... and after about 10 minutes of fruitless attempts to untangle it, I cut my losses and moved on to straight up fishing. Between three rivercats passing by and also a group of Year 10 students coming back from their formal on a cruise, I managed to hook 2 bream one about 20cm and the other 30cm. These 2 didn't muck around either, as they swallowed the hooks whole and put up decent fights. On the other platform was a guy targeting jewfish on what looked to be frozen squid. Something took his bait as his rod went zzzzZZZZZz crazy for a bit but then spat it back out as the action ended pretty quickly. Meanwhile I was ready to call it quits and pull my rod in, when I got that "not another snag" moment. After reeling for a bit and the line hadn't snapped, I thought, it could be a shell on a rock, so I persisted reeling, then I noticed something was pulling the line everytime I tried to reel in a bit. This continued to happen for about 5 or so minutes and it felt like my rod was about to break.. Finally ... SNAP, lost hook & sinker. I think it was a mud crab but I guess, I'll never know. Was a bloody fun fight though and a good way to end the night
  25. Hi Can anyone explain "fishing for donuts" please?
