  1. Congratulations. That's a fantastic first jewie mate. Well done!
  2. Good haul there Rob and in some spectacular fishing conditions. Did you clean on sight or wait til you got home? Cheers Paul
  3. Good to meet ya Tony.We got off to a good start with yakkas, but anchor got stuck and had to cut it. Didn't have much luck with the Squid so went back today on the yak and got a few. Anchor on the yak got stuck today too seesh. It was good experience to see how you guys operate with the kingies. Looks too dangerous from the yak hehe. I'll see you around mate. Cheers Paul
  4. Good haul there Tan. Went prawning there a few weeks ago and drifted over some very good sized flatties in very shallow water. Spewing I wasn't setup for fishing. I'm assuming plastics did the damage? Cheers Paul
  5. That's a beast! There's been some monsters in there of late. We've been catching them in the low 30s but seen another guy get em in the 40s. Well done! Can only assume they're gonna get bigger. Enjoy the feed. Cheers Paul
  6. Enjoyed that video. Great effort. Flatties on plastics is always fun.
  7. Well done Tony Good sized ones for a feed. Heading out there myself tomorrow. Hoping for similar results. Think I saw you guys heading over from Kurnell side. My mate was in a green kayak and I was in a yellow.
  8. Well done Zarn, Now you need one off your yak. We're hoping for a change of scenery too.
  9. Hi Ognum As in fully rigged up for fishing? Unlikely. Some shops have set dates where they showcase certain models on the water and you can try them out. Cheers Paul
  10. Bummer mate. Always get ya at the worst times. Any joy on Sunday night? Hopefully not too many. See ya around Trung. Leave the metal slices at home No problems mate, I'll let you know. Now that I've got the jewie monkey off my back, my focus is shifting back to large squid if you're keen on that . Good luck mate, get out there and upgrade! Thanks Tony, I anchored up but was lucky not many boats around at the time or things could have gotten very messy. I need a quick release system which I'm looking into. Maybe the boys. My night sessions don't last too long, but I'll keep an eye out for a yellow boat
  11. Happy Birthday Stewie, Great work on the site! Have a great day. Hope you get some time on the water. Cheers Paul
  12. Great report mate. Good to see decent sized snapper inside the harbour. Cheers Paul
  13. Thanks guys Here's a better photo from Zephi's camera. Cheers Paul
  14. Hey Raiders After losing 2 big runs on Tuesday night (spat and lost hook), I was even more determined to catch my first jewie so headed again on Wednesday night with fellow raider Zephi and his brother on our yaks about 3 hours from the top of the tide. Anchored up from the front and sent a livie out and while I was sorting something out on the yak, the reel started screaming. Left it for about 10 seconds before I tightened the drag a bit which didn't work out too well as my anchor stopped holding and my yak started getting towed backwards. Trying to figure out what was at the end of my line, wondering where I was getting towed and how far I was getting towed whilst trying to reach for my net was all a bit hectic at the time. At first I thought it was a ray, but as I was able to reel some line in without as much effort as previous rays caught, I knew I could be onto my first jewie. After a 5 minute fight, getting towed backwards for 20m and finally being able to get my net, I landed my first ever jewie coming in at 94cm and 6.9kg. I had work the next day so had to leave almost straight after, but not before giving up my spot to the brothers where they dropped a line and pulled up a mid 80s jewie shortly after. As I was making my way back, Alan AKA A.Dawg AKA Jewie Master had arrived after finishing work. He and the brothers caught quite a few more jewies between them, mostly in the 80s and a few soapies among them. They kept a few for a feed and threw a few back. I think Alan's caught 20+ jewies in the past 2 weeks, tough life! Also on the way back, Quintrex480 was fishing landbased and got himself a fat 30cm bream. Here are some of the pics from the night. Enjoy! Cheers Paul

  16. Nothing beats a mid week fish, especially kingies with no boats around. I don't know how you do it!
  17. From what I've read, Yakka is an alternative name for Yellowtail Scad It's 50 if you're not going for the other species listed on NSW DPI website or 50 total combined if you are.
  18. 50 Garfish (other than Eastern Sea Garfish) Jack Mackerel and Yellowtail Scad Hardyhead and Silverfish A bag limit of 50 comprised of any single species or a combination of species. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/sw-bag-and-size
  19. Hi James If you are a Jew hunter, I'd suggest a bait tube to keep your livies in and one you can hang on the side of your canoe/yak. It will slow you down with a bit of drag, but nothing that would ruin your fishing adventures. Can make one for around $10-15. PVC pipe, some vented caps at each end and a bit of rope should do the trick. There are various designs out there on the net. One other thing I like to bring with me is a 20L round plastic drum for dry storage you can get at any camping or adventure store. It's light and also floats if it ever went in the water. Enjoy your new ride! Cheers Paul
  20. Zarn Might take you up on that boat ride one day Nice Kingies mate! PS - You didn't miss out on much with us yesterday.. kingies didnt come to play. Livewell full of yakkas and squid PPS - What a friggen small world, we work in the same building! Good to meet you.

    Squidless

Kooks Some good info here already. Another technique I like to use is a double jig rig. Gives the squid options. Sometimes they go for both or sometimes they like to share In this photo I used a half pink&glow and a natural coloured Yamashita Naory 2.2 caught around sunrise in clearish water around 3.5 m deep. But you'd probably need to work out how snaggy/strong the weeds are in the area first otherwise it could be an expensive exercise. I also use this chart by Yamashita as a guide to what colour jigs might work and in which areas. An example would be the Georges River, I squidded at night in some strong current in murky water with that green (BLGKO) jig and got quite a few hits. Hope that helps. Cheers Paul
  23. Just reread all 6 pages of http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=36153 prior to the long weekend. Gotta come back with something or hang my head in shame!

when the planets & moons align my friend ,just keep at it

  24. Lost 3 and managed one for the table lol. Bit of trial and error at the spot with strong current, tight drag and a bit of impatience playing their part for the lost squid but at least we know they're there and which colours and weights work I'm going for Jewies straight up next time.
