  1. heya mate, hasn't always been like this, still remember the times when I would go home empty handed, but trying new stuff and perseverance has finally paid off, pretty confident of going home with a feed with each trip now. Charter trip? how much u willing to pay? when the water is that dirty, squid are the first to jet! yeah losing expensive jigs comes hand in hand with squidding, just have to learn to live with it. I've lost countless jigs and it does still get to me when I lose one, but lucky it's been a while (knock on wood )
  2. Took my brother who's visiting from the States and his mate for a fish, wanted to try and get him onto his first king. Got onto the water about 7 and looking at the muck that was in the water, I wasn't too hopeful for any squid and nor any kings either. But we gave it a go anyway, and hit the squid grounds, put the jig into the water and I couldn't see the jig pass the leader (approx 1m), that's how dirty the water was. After about an hour of not even a touch decided for plan B. Armed with some fresh prawns, hit the breams, fished for about 4 hours, 2 hours to high and 2 hours past high. We managed 15 bream with the best going 35cm. So we managed to take home a feed each, brothers mate caught the smallest snapper I've ever seen which was a good laugh. Hope the water clears out for next week.
  3. Don't worry redpumpkin, you'll KNOW when you hook onto a kingfish... just make sure you tighten the drag and hold on tight
  4. well done on the fish redpumpkin, sounds like a great day, but just a correction if I may, they are actually tarwine not bream, but yeah they look very similar
  5. Hey mate, yep u got the right bay the other boat out with us tried downrigging some yakkas the last couple of times without a touch. But as soon as you whack on a fresh whole squid. It get's hammered pretty much straight away, in regards to the kings being sporadic, that is true, but our last couple of outtings have been quite successful with 2 hoodies being landed in our first outting, so I think they are finally here albeit about 2 months late . From my own experience, when the kings are firing they take the yakkas, even fresh prawns! But otherwise fresh squid will only do. Will definitely be giving them another go this weekend to see if we can tangle with them again.
  6. Simply awesome Andrew!!! well done again!!
  7. thanks Tom, hahahaha yeah that dam thong really did break in the middle of bringing one up wasn't a good feeling back at the ramp, getting cuts on the bottom of my feet on the barnicles nah, we had plenty of smaller size squid that day, so that big one along with my first ever cuttlefish (estimated to be over 1kg) went home for dinner, the was she loves them.
  8. Heya cj, would be doable in a yak but you would need to work those arms/legs pretty quickly to get them out of the reefs, and then once you do, you would probably be towed around a little, but that would be awesome! I am hoping the kings come inside the bay, so I can go give them a go in my yak
  9. Heya Luke, forecast for Thursday looks awesome right now!!! HINT: Don't waste your time inside the bay, head outside
  10. hahahaha re-read your first reply about going back to the bream fishing, I might have to, not by choice but the mother in law complains that I ain't bring no breams back no more...
  11. mate! well done on scoring the king, but with all those inkers, only 1 king?? nice pose by the way!
  12. Were u out today? Or is the boat still out of action? Trust me, there are plenty of kings out there, by the bust offs I was seeing happenig around me. Hahaha since u know exactly where i am, i trust i'll see u along side me next weekend
  13. better luck next time buddy! and I am free to give you lessons on how to tie a reverse albright, just give me a call ok calamari rings for dinner tonight then?
  14. Had the king bug from last week and we wanted to see if we could get onto them again today. Headed out in the same 2 boat convoy with Formosan. First up was the squid grounds, Formosan's boat was on 5 squid and we were on a big fat zero in the first hour after countless drops and touches, I was starting to get the sh!ts big time!!! . But soon enough we were onto them and had a tank full before 8:30, one last cast produced a very nice size squid with the hood measuring close to 40cm!! which by the way squirted about 1 litre of ink on me, luckily I was wearing a black shirt Headed to the reef's outside of the bay and couldn't believe how calm it was, next to no swell, no wind... thinking this is going to be an awesome day! got to the reefs and there were half a dozen boats out there already, so it was a good sign. Whacked out the squid, and on the second pass produced a 92cm specimen, but sheesh it fought like a hoodie, couple of passes later produced and 88cm and then a 75. It then went all quiet by around 11, we were still marking up some big arches but were holding very deep, tried a quick drift, whilst we got onto 2 of them, they spat the hook. Can't wait to do it all again next week
  15. Good on ya Buster! Nice solid king!!!
  16. that's an awesome effort mate, I have read all your kingfish post from the past and they have all been inspirational and I have learnt a lot from them but this one definitely takes the cake, well done and well deserved!!!
  17. Thanks mate! Sorry but I got the boat with the covers already on. But just did a couple of mods myself to suit my needs. But see Formosan's reply on the custom one, I've seen the job on his and looks pretty good.
  18. Thanks Luke, how did you go over the weekend?
  19. Yeah was a great day buddy! Dam! You got me on length, I was hoping mine would get u on weight hehe. Where did u put all the yakkas once all the squid came on board?
  20. Thanks for the tip jim, will definitely take it on board next time.
  21. Oh man, yeah finally rewarded for the persistence we put in. Yeah when ur dr'ing so close to the reef, it takes a bit of luck to get them outta there. Def will be looking at the stella mate, good luck tomm! Yeah 10kg king coming up
  22. Went out today with my cousins and Formosan on a 2 boat convoy, wanted to get redemption on the kings that busted me off last week. Got to the squid grounds early morning and in around an hour we had both boats with bait tanks filled with squid. Headed off to the same reef outside of the bay that I got busted off on last week and prepared to downrig some fresh squid, in no time Formosan is on, and by the fight, it's sure to be a good size king, we watch from afar and we see him haul in the hoodie (I'll let him post his own report for size and weight). On my second pass, I am hit and I struggled to get the rod out of the holder, and line is peeling off way too quickly!!! cousin's on the wheel driving us out to deeper water, but snap, the upgrade to 100lb leader didn't change a thing from last week, I still got busted off!!! You can imagine how low I felt right then, that was the 3rd bust off by some really big kings in a week! Anyway we continue, and we land a sambo and then a rat, here I am thinking I lost my chance at a big king, until I am hit again, and this time we gun it out to deeper water faster, in 20+ meters of water now, and away from the reef, I had a fight on my hands, and boy it was tough!!!! Finally had it boat side and netted, went 105cm, 9.2kg!!! high fives all around. By then, I had to call it a day as I promised the mrs, but Formosan and other cousins continued on and I'll let him post what happened in his own report. Pictures to come.
  23. So Luke, if u see a Formosa 5.20 tailing you to the squid grounds, you know who it is
  24. Well done on the squid, could it be the reason why there are plentiful of squid right now is because there are no kings around?
