  1. Well done on the squid, and land based squidding is tough! I assume you were on a wharf ? What I do is have 2 rods rigged up, as soon as I land 1, I throw the other one in straight away whilst I handle the caught 1 and many a times there are squid following and you'll land another one on the second rod.
  2. Well done mate! You probably got 3 of the best table eating fish in that bag!
  3. Inspirational stuff guys! WELL DONE!
  4. Haha if I had stalked Trung, there would have been 20 squid instead of just 8.
  5. yeah good chat mate! i've seen what kelp looks like on a HDS5 sounder, not too impressive but then again, you have structure scan so I am sure it's quite impressive hehehehe but here's the google map anyway, hint: it's somewhere in the blue area yep, I am a believer now, some big ones definitely!!!
  6. MATE!!! they are HUGE!!!!! hahahaha yeah see you out there on the weekend.
  7. The main goal of the day was to find new squidding grounds as squid in the normal grounds were getting a bit scarce, and to try and DR them for kings if I got any. Wanted to put the new Lowrance Elite DSI sounder to the test, and boy it didn't disappoint, the promo for the sounder says that you can actually see the strands of the kelp and weed. Sounding out some new grounds, I came across a large patch of kelp, and the funny thing was it wasn't too far from an area close to where I normally squid anyway and I must have gone over that same spot a dozen times but never noticed it with the old sounder. So anchored up, and threw in the first jig, stripped off some line and let it sink, threw in the other jig, then it's on, I got 8 squid from 8 cast, 100% strike rate, all in 30 mins. Seeing how brown the water in the bay was, I wasn't too hopeful for any kings inside, so ventured outside to a reefy spot given to me by a mate for kings, knew it wasn't going to be too easy as it was like a washing machine out there. Got to our spot and the sounder showed some large arches near the bottom, whacked on one of the medium size squid and on the second pass, whammo! we're on! grabbed the rod, locked the drag on the saltist and I couldn't stop it, it was still peeling line off, before I could ask my mate to get on the wheel, it was gone I was cursing like there was no tomorrow . The 60lb leader was shredded, definitely upgrading to 100lb for the next trip. I've caught 90cm kings on the gear before without too much fuss, so for line to be still coming off on locked drag, it was sure to be a beast. Re-rigged and whacked on another squid, on the second pass, the rod goes off again. This time I had my mate ready to get on the wheel, but being his first time on a boat and not knowing how to control a boat, hammers down on full throttle and I am almost tossed over the back!! then he oversteers right then oversteers left, I am being tossed around the back of the boat! and sad to say it, I am reefed again! Did a couple more passes, but no more hits, by this time my mate had turned green and I wanted to beat the traffic back at the ramp so we headed back. Back at the ramp, I noticed schools and schools of bream right in the shallows, they were chasing little bait fish. Who needs to go out to towra for bream when you can just get them at the ramp Sure to be out next week to give it another go!
  8. good one mate! looks like I am going to have to try and get out mid-week as I am sure the bay is going to be a parking lot come next weekend and as Dangas said, we'll be trying to get the ones you so kindly put back , and about the pic with the oil rig in the background, can we all have a pic of a squid with background as well instead of always in the bait tank See you out there buddy!
  9. Hey mate, you can't find yakkas fullstop or you can't find big yakkas?
  10. Hey cj, haven't forgot about you mate, i have promised a bunch of mates that i'd take them too . But you have been doing well on the hobie anyway! I'll take my yak out soon, just need a new battery for the minkota, and i'll give u a holla .
  11. I find wiilyweather a little better, am sure they all come from the same source but the graphics a little better than seabreeze.
  12. thanks mate, just the good old humble prawn.
  13. Sometimes, they just love bait more , and about heading out, anytime buddy, u know my offer to hop on still stands hehehehe
  14. hey Trung, was good to catch up with ya at the ramp even if it was brief. DAM! would have loved to of got into those bonnies, was too busy catching bream. Good luck on the jewbash, hope you do better than I did.
  15. Hope every1 had a great Australia Day! Stocked up on 7 squid for the past week for go on Jews in the bay. Wasn't looking to optimistic driving home from work in the downpour yesterday, but I was still eager to get out. Then disappointment set in when I found out the monster (oopps i meant mother ) in-law had taken 6 of my 7 squid home for dinner throughout the week guess it was my fault for being too lazy for not putting them in the bait freezer. Wanted to get to the bay before the high at 11pm, but after getting the kids to bed and the rain hampering my efforts to set up the boat, didn't end up leaving the house until 11PM let alone start fishing at 11PM. Finally met up with my mate at 11:30PM at the ramp, and headed to get some yakkas, first spot zilch, moved to second spot and we filled up with yakkas in no time, and these were horses!! as they say big bait = big fish, so we hoped to prove that true Zoomed across the bay to set up camp for Jews, me with the lone squid and my mate with the livie, by this time the current was too strong and we knew we missed our chance, so on the floor we went to bed, with my baitrunner set to wake me up, and it did, pulled in a nice little soapie to about 40cm, back in the drink to grow up a little. None of the livies were touched, got up at 7 and decided to go for bream and flatties over at Towra, in the end we ended up with 16 bream ranging from 28cm-38cm and a nice blue swimmer that wouldn't let go of the hook. Saw Trung at the ramp and as usual, he got the squid again! who's starting to get bored of hearing about Trung and all the squid he gets??? ahahhaha here's a pic of some of the catches.
  16. thanks for that, I'll give them a call. cheers
  17. actually that was caught in botany bay
  18. Hi Raiders, just wondering if anyone can recommend a good place to take my 80HP 4 stroke Yammi for service. thanks
  19. Nice haul of fish there mate! And yes i have noticed the small jackets around when going for yakkas, annoying little things they are . Bad luck on the jew, hope you've learnt your lesson! . No luck on the squid front?
  20. EXACTLY!!!! last week off so trying to make the most of it. I'll be doing the dreaming come next week, when you out next?
  21. Decided to take my dad for a fish today, left a little later than I wanted. My 3 month old daughter decided she wanted to play after her bottle at 4:30AM Got onto the water at 7:30 and first up was fishing the flats over at towra on the end of the run up but the the NW going against the current made it tough but we did ok with 3 decent bream and a flattie, and about 5 undersize bream. Second up was to try the squid grounds, I need to have a word with DHYPE & PENGUIN because I think they fished them all!!!! took me 2 hours to get 2 lollipop squid, and being my dad's first time squidding, he lost 2 of my jigs!!! 40 bucks down the drain DOH! well anyway, with 2 squid, we tried to see if there were any kings about that we could tempt, sounded out the drums and it was dead as, so went over to molli, and it didn't look too promising either, but decided to give it a go anyway, dropped both squid, and within 10 minutes they were smashed up by pickers!!!! what took me 2 hours to get was gone just like that in 10 mins!!! decided to give the flats another go before heading home, and all were got were 3 undersize bream and small rays. Decided to pack it in, GEEZZ I hope those kings turn up soon, it's getting quite frustrating
  22. I heard u did alright on that day as well mate! & thanks for taking the kiter in for me, hope the bottle of red went down well with those breams
  23. Congrats on the new boat, perfect timing, get out there with some fresh bait and get amongst the action. I am in a quintrex 480 coast runner and always in my lucky black shimano cap. Say hi if u see me and i can 'try' to lead u in the right direction.
