  1. Wow that pie recipe sounds great, never smoked a fish before so i'll have to try it soon! But I did go blackfishing with success today, kept 3 of the bigger ones. Though I dont have a steamer, I cleaned the fish, added onion, spring onion, ginger, coriander, sesame oil, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar and curry paste. LOL whatever I had! and wrapped it in foil, put it in a baking dish with some water in it. The steam effect! Tasted great! thanks for the recipes. Look forward to fish pie
  2. hey mate thanks for the recipe, I haven't tried them like that. I'll give it a go next week when I go fishing!
  3. I live in Clovelly which has a big groper population, which is protected by the Bronte Coogee Marine reserve. I wasn't criticising the original poster, just merely saying that that I can't catch them where I fish. It's a great catch and I congratulate the OP, sorry if there is a problem! Cheers, Chris
  4. Wow good catch! Did you keep it? How do they taste? They are illegal to take in my local waters, damn!
  5. I've been Blackfishing for a month or so need some good Blackfish recipes. So far I've cooked them filleted and skinned, fried with flour in a Burger and also as Thai Fish cakes which were really nice even though I didn't really use a recipe and they fell apart whilst cooking. So does any one have some good recipes for blackfish? I'd also like to try them whole! Thanks
  6. It's legal, but its a no take groper zone. Also try not to cast near swimmers...some arn't nice even if your far away
  7. Mate i've never really thought about it, i live close so i go whenever! It's definitely better whens there is a bit of water movement, caught nothing whens it's flat. It would seem that the only species to target off the concrete are Bream and Luderick. You get heaps of wrasse which you might have caught, though i have seen whiting whilst snorkelling and caught undersized rock blackfish. It's a good beginners spot, nice and safe but hopefully better spots around the area once I learn more! Hope this helps.
  8. Good work, Did you only fish off the sand or off the concrete as well?
  9. Gilbey: I caught them in the morning, also went this morning with little luck only a just legal blackie which I threw back. I'll definitely keep your offer for a fish on the cards, thanks mate, your blackie goes extremely well. I kept them alive in my bucket, though, by the end of the session they were nearing the end. I guess i'll bleed them out as I catch them from now on, it'll be a more humane death aswell. Whilst the smell was bad, they tasted good - nice white flesh, but since I did not bleed them they had some blood in the flesh. Thanks for all the replys everyone, look forward to more blackfishing soon.
  10. Hi fishraiders, my name is Chris and this is my first report, although I've been lurking these forums for some time now Went out this morning to Clovelly and Gordons Bay to try catch myself my first luderick. A bit windy but who cares Gathered some fresh weed off the rocks, the amount of weed has definitely reduced since summer, its very hard to find (especially in the dark haha). Set up my rig based off the advice in the sticky thread (awesome advice Roberta , thanks) and off I go. First couple of casts nothing, then bam, end up with a nice 30 cm blackie, my first ever! About ten minutes later caught another at 30cm. I'm a pro! Missed the strike on one or two more, then ran out of weed. Switched over to pillies and caught a nice 31cm Bream but I threw him back since i already had a feed. Called it a day after that. Just filleted them 20 mins ago and they look really good, although they smell quite a bit. Kinda made me dizzy. Overall, a great start to the day and a fish that i can tick off!
  11. Hey guys this is my first post here. My brother in law caught a small tuna in the bay last week and as a result of being quite jealous i'm looking to upgrade to a new combo to for light to med estuary fishing (not to catch tuna since our dingy cant go too far out haha!). I've been looking at the Daiwa Tierra 2500 and matching rod - Daiwa Tierra Spinning Rod 7' Medium Any other recommendations in the $200-250 range? thanks for the help
