  1. On hot days I get a bit of petrol coming out my breathers for the tank if it is pretty full. Had a heart attack first time it happened when I couldn't find the leak but could smell petrol.
  2. Issue for me is more around boat rego. Do we really need to register a tinny with a 15hp motor on it? Given we already need rego for the trailer, pay boat, fish, and driver's licences, I think there should be some review of when a boat needs to be registered. Maybe based on length, weight, use, or similar.
  3. Great fish. Think it must have been my special burley that did it! 3
  4. Absolute cracker! Have managed 95cm on a mates stella 20000 and that still gave it a great workout. Can only imagine what it was like on a 4000 reel! Makes it even sweeter!!
  5. These were all on 3.0 jigs. Pillie colour. Have never spotted a calamari on the sounder, but that doesn't mean much as not generally watching the sounder when squiding. And yes, should be able to catch them all year. Seem to get bigger in colder months I reckon. But I am far from an expert on squiding as my opening words can attest to!! "Have been trying to catch some squid over the last few months with not a lot of success" :-)
  6. Have been trying to catch some squid over the last few months with not a lot of success, so got myself some new jigs and a bit of advice, and headed out last weekend to try them out (in between rain showers) Headed South out of the Hacking and dropped in about 6m of water. Had one jig just trailing out the back while I worked the other one. Wasn't long before I hooked up to a nice size calamari just after high tide, and then pulled in a few more over the next hour and a half or so. Changed spots after it went a bit quiet and got a couple more. Decided to call it quits and head home after a few hours, and thought just one last try in my usual spot, and managed to pull in another 2. All up managed 8 nice green eyes which have been very tasty this week!!! Once the rain stops will have to give it another go!
  7. Heading out this arvo too. Call sign "Scozzy". Anyone know what sort of lures they have been going for? Was gonna run a couple of skirts and an x-rap or 2 as well.

cough, cough..... Can feel a cold coming on.... Ryan, prob gonna head out too. Will give you a yell.
  9. Hi one arm, Got em up around Jibbon weed beds. Might give it another go this weekend but I imagine there will be a thousand boats around for Oz day so could be tough.
  10. Hi all, Went out on Sat morn on the Hacking with the intention of trying to catch a bit of bait for an arvo session with a mate. Tried a few spots in the around Lilli Pilli with no luck, so moved out closer to the heads. Decided to just throw a jig over the back and leave it while drifting over some weed patches and started rigging up a couple of other lines. After a few minutes hooked up a nice squid. Was pretty happy as haven't managed any the last few times I have been out. Did another drift with the same result so put the rigging aside and decided to concentrate on catching a few more. Anyway, after a couple of frantic hours, managed to put 10 really good size ones in the tank. A couple of other boats were also pulling them in close by as well. Some of the biggest squid I've seen for ages. Home for lunch, then picked the mate up for the arvo session, and tried for a couple of kings but too blowy outside so headed back in to the same spot and picked up another bakers dozen. Highlight was when one of them sent a perfectly aimed ink shot straight into my mate's face (payback for a similar event where I copped it a few months ago. haha) Went home with a great feed and a stack of kingie bait for a few more sessions. Sorry no photos, but a great day out!
  11. Water was 18.6 degrees close in off the coast south of Hacking on Saturday.
  12. Think I might have to make the same bet with my boss! Great day at work!
  13. Would have been out there this weekend but for the weather. Went 2 weeks ago for a few stripies only. But will be out again next weekend for sure. Well done. If I catch 1 of those a season I will be happy!!!
  14. The hacking is like a hot chocolate at the moment. Get the old bait out that really smells to have a chance
  15. Great report. Makes me want to head back there. Went a few years ago but didn't manage any fishing. That will change next time!
  16. We can only hope that sanity prevails and this does not happen!! Although given the state of affairs with the Cronulla Fisheries centre, I am very concerned. Fishing the bay has been improving steadily over the last few years and can only be good for other regions in Sydney as fish spill out into surrounding areas. Good work on your action!!
  17. Hi Slink, I have a set of rod riggers and use them at 90degrees from my rocket launcher as DIY outriggers with a couple of old rods (around 7 foot, but would like a couple of 10 foot beach rods to give me a little extra spread). Works really well. A couple of release clips at the end of the rods. On a 6.25m boat. Also use them when at anchor bottom bashing with a lucanis jig or livey hanging off them. Gets them out of the way and can fish ot the back with no worries. Cost $80 instead of $BIG. As a compromise, they are great, esp for a trailerboat. Attached photo shows them held on with occy straps for the first test run, which has since been upgraded to a couple of stainless pins which is much neater.
  18. Took my 13yr old daughter fishing on the Bay the other week, with high hopes of a great day out with plenty of fish and bonding. She spent the first hour leaning over the side creating a pretty good burley trail before I had to pack it in and head home. Some kids are made for it. Others maybe not so much You are a lucky man!!!
  19. Bonito sashimi if bled straight away, and eaten fresh is as good as it gets! You can pay top $$$ for this in Jap restaurants these days. I have them with a bit of soy and wasabi and even my kids (10 and 14yrs)scoff it down. Grilled on the BBQ is also top notch if fresh.
  20. Hey Raiders, Managed to get the boat out on Sun morn after a few weeks of sitting looking at rainy skies... Headed out on Botany bay around 5.30 Sun morn, and straight out to catch some livies. Half hr trying for squid and yakkas with no luck so moved on to another spot and soon had a tank full of yakkas. No squid though... Headed oround to a little spot south of the heads and put a couple of livies out, but no action apart from the washing machine from the pretty large swell rebounding back off the rocks. Back into the bay, and anchored up and put the burley pot out. About 20 min later, a couple of the rods go off at once, and all hell breaks loose. Had a kingy on one of them that managed to swim around the 2 other lines that were out, as well as the burley pot and the anchor rope. I know kings fight hard and dirty, but that's starting to get a bit ridiculous After a couple of minutes of crazy action where we tried to untangle 3 lines and anchor and burley pot with a rampaging king still firmly hooked on the other end, we ditched everything and just hauled him in by hand and got him on board. Not the only handlining incident during the day either was it Ribs? Got it on a Lucanus jig. Went 70cm, so not huge, but still very tasty! Think we may have had another one on one of the other lines too, but lost it when the first one went crazy and tangled everything up. Back for more kingy action soon!
  21. Also check out the Shimano Rarenium Ci4 4000. For pretty much the same $$$, looks like a better reel than the stradic.
  22. Hi, I didn't know there were restrictions on Nippers or anything else in Gunnamatta Bay. Do you have any info on this? Thanks.
  23. Thanks for the advice Yowie!! See you out on the water!
  24. Sounds like a nice feed for your troubles... Where do you get your yakkas from in the hacking? Havent had much luck and want to do a bit of live baiting but just cant seem to get them.
  25. Pls post a photo of the surf boat....
