Greg my limit is about $13 on Atomic crank's. Call me tight, but $13 lures work just as well as $26 lures and you get twice as many for your money... LOL Truthfully I rarely spend more than that, but I buy a lot at that price. Yak time soon? Greg

Pmak - Yes, the shared obsession is great. No arguments about what we are doing on the weekend... These photos are shot on a combination of cameras. Nikon D200/10.5mm fisheye and GoPro HD. The GoPro mounts directly to the boat and either records HD video or can be set to take timelapse photos at a specified interval. Silhouette images are from the Go Pro. I collected over 3000 timelapse images at Mallacoota in 2 sessions. Will make for some great timelapse video when I get a chance to pull it all together. It captures a lot of those moments you miss if you have to pick up a camera. Roberta - thanks, we had a blast. The busted prop was annoying, but luckily I was able to get my spare sent from Sydney pretty quickly. No serious damage done, but we did have to idle back to the ramp which took us over an hour. Tom caught some nice tailor, trolling a hardbody so the time wasn't wasted. Greg

Don't blame you for getting off the water! I think I would have done the same in a Kayak. I suspect that something in the S-factor has "gone off". I've had the same happen in a glass jar that I've had on my bench for about 12 months. The jar doesn't seal properly and the sfactor has gone the exact same colour. I've been using a air tight plastic container lately and haven't noticed it, but had used a similar (Baby custard) glass jar once before as well and the same thing happened. It still works though! Cheers guys. My kids love to get out on the boat fishing. My secret to getting them onto the fish is to put my own rod and reel away, and concentrate 100% on them.

Summer holidays were spent in Mallacoota this year with the family. 2 weeks with nothing planned, boat in tow, packed to the brim with rods and lures. What more could you ask for? We fished every day bar 2, whilst I waited for my spare prop to be sent down from Sydney. Running from the top lake on the second day, I threw a blade on the prop. Nasty stuff! and luckily there was no major damage... Most days fishing were for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Often with one of my kids on board, to chase some flatty's and or Bream! We had a blast, casting crankbaits tight to the snags and potholing fish. The trusty old SX40 (bluegill) did most of the damage over the 2 weeks, and to be perfectly honest, it was the first time I'd thrown one in ages. All my kids got onto fish, and achieved some firsts and PB's. Both Tom (7) and Ben (3) got their first Black Bream. Tom also got a heap of good size flatty's and a Blackfish. Well it's been a while since I've posted anything... Been too busy fishing! Below is a link to some video from a memorable surface session on Sydney Harbour from earlier this season. Between the 2 boats, we landed 3 fish over a kilo, and weighed close to 8 kg of bream in a 3 hour session! hope you enjoy! Cheers, Greg

As Andrew has said, your issue is going to be with the 4-5 people aboard. I have a 201 Stratos (21ft), which is bigger than most going around, and frankly, although you could fish 4 up, I wouldn't want to be doing it all the time. 3 is really about the limit. Travelling with 3 in mine is comfortable enough but 4 would be pretty much out of the question unless they were Kids. Skeeter has a 20/21 ft fish and ski option that seats 4 comfortably enough, but you compromise on the deck space. For that money I think you'll struggle to get anything in glass in the size you require, unless you're prepared to import yourself from the US. Cheers, Greg

BillyD, regulations re rego will relate to the trailer. I imported a 21 foot stratos earlier in the year. Blue slip guy measured outside guard to outside guard with the boat off the trailer (he also did the weighbridge certificate - so i killed 2 birds t the same time. If you've had a trailer built, double check the coupling specs. it needs to say 50mm NOT 2" as with most US couplings. It's only a minor difference, but it does matter. Re quarantine - get friendly with your customs agent. Find out exactly what they want early in the piece to minimise the headache. For second hand boats, have the guy in the US clean the bilge area, kill tanks, livewells etc with bleach. Have them clean the inside of the boat just before it gets shrink wrapped. If the quarantine guys see leaves etc in the boat they will hold it back for cleaning. Doing all of this, I was lucky and had no problems with Quarantine. Boat arrived on Sunday night and I had the boat by 11am Monday. I did have to have the boat towed on a truck from Port Kembla, because my trailer didn't comply with NSW regs (ie lights) and therefore I couldn't get a permit. My biggest headache was actually getting it on the ship at the other end. That was the broker more than anything else. He was more interested in telling me what I wanted to hear, as opposed to the actual dates it would leave. i did have motor issues once here as well, but that's the same risk you take buying anything second hand. Remember too, motor warranty will not be valid here in Australia (except on a brand new Merc which you may get 1 year. Would I do it again? Absolutely. The frustration and headaches soon disappeared once I got the boat on the water, I saved myself at least 50% on buying brand new here - even with the motor issues. Since I imported mine, a mate of mine has also brought in a 21 foot boat and had even less issues than me. If I was to do anything different, I'd either use a different broker, or manage all that small stuff myself. More work yes, but then I'd be in control (easy to say in hindsight and having the experience of already importing a boat). Good luck! Cheers, Greg

Keen as,you've pretty well answered your own question there. All of he lures mentioned will work on their day. We always go back to the ones we're confident in, and we're usually confident in them because they caught us fish on any particular day. Change it up! Lure type, size, action, colour, retrieve... until you work out what they want. That's the fun and sometimes frustrating part. Cheers, Greg

I double the braid as well using an improved albright knot. 7 turns up and 3 back. all my reels are spooled with either 2 lb crystal fireline or 10lb sunline castaway. I predominately fish 3lb and 4 lb leaders, and have had no issues with knots greg

I have personally seen one of these jackets only inflate on one side when deployed. Although funny at the time, 30 seconds before the start of a tournament, it could have been disastrous had this have occurred in an emergency situation, forcing the wearer to be side on in the water. On my boat, everyone wears a PFD when we are under power, be it tournament fishing or social. I personally have used this style of jacket. Yes they are comfortable, but I've since reverted back to wearing a full vest type. They are not that bulky, and I have the piece of mind that if I go overboard unconscious. whilst underway, I don't have to remember to deploy the jacket. You should also know, these inflatable PFD's require regular servicing to manufacturers recommendations. If you don't follow this service regime, the PFD will not comply with maritime safety regulations. Regarding the difference between the brands, I don't think you'll see much difference between them if they are kept regularly serviced. Cheers, Greg
