I would say estuary cod - I've caught them in Pittwater...... very common up north in warmer water. I think they're protected in NSW waters though....

The bonnies go quiet the same year they increase the pro salmon quotas - coincidence or bi-catch getting slaughtered ???

Great invention!!! I always take mine out on the the boat, esp on those long cold nights... Nothing beats smelling your dinner cooking while you're fishing. I usually do roasts in it... You only need 8 heat beads (the self lighting ones are very handy for when you're away), about an hour per kilo. There are frypan and grill attachments too, so you're not limited to just roasting. I have mates who've done pizzas and all sorts in them. Great for smoking too! Thoroughly recommend them. Cheers, Singers.

I just bought a tyrnos 30 for the same application and used platypus Platinum 24 kg on it. It was by far the thinnest line (0.55 mm) in that class compared to all the other brands (all around 0.70 mm).... I managed to get 500 m on it, happy days.

Was it for sale in America? I know they call overhead (star drag) reels "conventional reels". So im guessing its an overhead jigging stick...... That's what my money's on anyway. Cheers, Singers

We usually knock the fillets off them and eat the good bits - delicious! The belly flaps we use as strip baits, they are awesome for the big flatties. Bloodline, frame and head all go in the chomper for berly - no waste at all. Cheers, Singers

Hi Rabs, I lived in Karratha for a couple of years and did plenty of fishing out of Dampier. We would always troll bibs or drift livies along reef edges for spaniards, but also pick up anything from tuna to GTs to coral trout doing this. Berley up queenies and trevs on any of the sandy beaches, and throw metals at them, alway good fun. You'll get billies out the back of the iron ore ships anchored up out wide.... just look for the other 50 boats doing the same thing! Beware of the sharks though! Big gear, and winch them in quick smart.... Im jealous, wish i was going! Cheers, Singers

A mate of mine jagged a 1m+ loggerhead over in WA on a marlin lure.... Fought it for over an hour on 24 kg standup trying to save his lure.... The turtle won, i don't think it even knew it was hooked.... Cheers, Singers.

What a joke! Who are these paople making these decisions? To dessimate an entire fishery for the sake of a quick dollar, unbelievable. Broken Bay is already hammered by commercial boats.... The number of trawlers out there on a weekday is nuts. The prawn trawlers have made a desert of the bottom, and now they want to have a go at the pelagics too! What about all the tailor, bonito and kings that school with the salmon - will they be sorted out and released unharmed? I doubt it. If these guys want to make money off salmon, why not protect the fishery and start selling metal slices and flies to the thousands of anglers that spend their weekends "trying" to hook one! All those greenies out there should take notice of this and realise that recreational fishers are not the problem, but the solution. The real problem are those pigs in suits who couldn't even tie a hook onto a line. Cheers, Singers.

Here here ..... Keep at them until they learn.... I managed to get through to my uncles and dad, to rid themsleves of their greedy fishing ways.... They are now at a point where even the smaller, legal fish are going back, and only the sustainable ones are kept for the table. I agree we need more officers on the water, at the ramps, along the wharves and breakwalls, nailing these guys with undersized fish and no licences..... Think of the revenue they could get through the fines!!!!! Cheers Singers.

Wow, I have never heard of them taken anywhere outside the Hawkesbury system and Sydney. Just did some reasearch then and it seems they're all over the country.... Maybe that's why there's still so many there - word hasnt got out yet.... Id keep that one to myself if i were you!

So just to answer a few of the questions popping up.... We hooked up at ~ 12:45 am, landed the fish just after 3 am.... so ~ 2.5 hrs fight time - we were lucky in that we snared a good clean hookup. It's surprising how much hurt you can put on a fish with 6 kg. Personally i was lucky to have our skipper grabbing the leader - he comes with a guarentee - it's great to have such confidence in your crew. Since we were fishing out of a 19 ft runabout (Haines Hunter V19R, 1971.... the smallest boat in the comp!) we were unable to bring it about, and so we were forced to tow it back to the ramp, a trip taking us 3.5 hrs! The measurements were: Length (nose to fork): 2750 (9.2 ft) Length (nose to tip of tail): 3300 (11 ft) Girth: 1750 (5.8 ft) .....So a very fat fish - according to the charts, a tiger of that length should only weigh 223 kg.... It's actually a pending IGFA world record, so fingers crosed the line breaks under! Cheers, Singers

Mate, awesome fish!!! Bet it was delicious!!! Great effort on rod and reel - in the past ive fished for Bluebone in WA with 300 lb handlines, didnt manage to land anything near the quality of your bad boy, well done. Singers.
