  1. G`day Fellas , The entire mob gathered at Mud Bishop Lagoon For this years Annual Picnic day . Upon arrival , I was disapoited to see , that the lagoon was near half full , and on a rising tide , which meant my visions of flathead fillets for tea quickly faded. The grandkids 8,9,12, immediately began rigging up ( Tying on their own Hooks sinkers and swivels etc, etc, ) but as soon as one wanted to try SP`s , they all did , so of came the Hooks etc , and 3 kids gathered round and were shown how to tie on a Sp. Spreading out with at least 50 metres between us all , we began flogging a very cold lagoon with Sp`s . Now normally this lagoon yields reasonable catches of Flatties and whiting , with the odd good bream , but mostly only on the last 2 hours of the run out . But soon , One GD was into a good sized Long Tom , which she played like a pro , and after twice adjusting her Drag system , guided the LTom into My net . A dehooking followed which saw , three wide eyed grandkids , staring down the gob of the long Tom admiring the Dental work . So , during the next hour or three , they caught 3 small bream , 2 more long toms , 2 blackfish ( The Blackies took an atomic Grub ) , and 3 small flatties , with the catch of the day being one huge Mullett which we kept for salting down for bait. In all , a marvellous way to again start the new year , ( With The Family ) , and where else in the world could it be better , than fishing the Local lagoon . Mick
  2. G`day Fellas , Well I spooled the new overhead reel with 20Lb line and headed for the sand. The wind was a blustery 15 Knotter ,and I just knew I was not going to last. Bumped into one of the locals who I hadn`t seen for some time , so we had a chat for a while , and as expected , because of the wind , he had caught nothing. My Boy arrived at about Six PM , and we Fished together with me being bitten off twice. Its been 20 years since I used an overhead , but after a doubble header Bunch of grapes , and cutting away about 60 odd yards of excess line ( overspooled it ) the knack returned , and then it became a casting comp between me and the boy which he just barely won. But By 7.30 , the wind had done me in , and I retired on a TKO , but I was over the moon with the way I performed after such a long break. Well , as usual , at about 12.30 came the rat a tat tat on the door , and the big grin said it all . Four fish , and all clones of each other , I called them for 12 LB , but we were both so tired , he just pulled the two from the bag and I took a shot of them , and to be perfectly honest , I just could not be bothered weighing or measuring them . And no way was I going to handle Jewfish at this hour for a detailed photo shoot , and I also didn`t fancy dcrubbing like buggery under the shower for an hour to get rid of the smell either. I`m keen to go again tonight , and if the wind allows me , I may just stay a bit longer . Mick
  3. G`day Fellas , Angst , Us old Fellas gotta give these youngbloods a bit of a start mate , because what we do , we do quickly. We dont have to spend six hours fishing the entire tide in or out to get a result , because we know when to strike . And as history has shown , We of the Senior Citizen ranks , believe in quality and not quantity , so , providing I meet with no further injuries , I`ll be down there with all guns blazing to demonstrate how its done very soon . Although , If the youngfella had beached the one that got away the other night , my task would have been almost impossible. One bystander of renown , estimated a conservative 80 lb , and boy he is a fella who definately calls them spot on. I have seen him nail the weights of larger fish to within a kilo , time after time after time , and so , if he said 80 , then it was awfully close to it. My new reel should be arriving any day , and when it does , I`ll be on the sand. Mick
  4. G`day Fellas , The youngfella , caught a coupple of 10 pounders last night at Old Bar , and although the pic looks as though one is smaller than the other , they were almost identical. Mick

  9. G`day Fellas , MY son and local legend Steve Peters fished Old Bar over the last few nights for a heap of School Jews mostly around the 10 Lb mark . Most of the locals are doing well also , with just about everybody catching something . Speaking to An Old timer having a snack at the Kiosk near the beach , who fished the place since a kid , he said he has never seen a better season. But although he lives in Wingham now , he still comes down to visit old mates , and have a look around . Mick
  10. G`day Fellas , Yeah , Its a mind blowing experience when it happens up close , isin`t it ?. I couldn`t sleep for weeks after a Whale and her Calf surfaced just 10 feet away from us at Greenwell Point some years ago. And although I wasnt scared , I was , totally overwhelmed by the whole experience I must admit. In one way , it sort of seemed like a religious experience , and shivers went up my spine , when I saw that enormous eye just staring back at me . By Gee , those whalers must have been something eh ? , little boat , lump of steel , plunged into thier back , and then just hang on. Thankfully They are protected much better now though. Mick

    Jewfish

G`day Fellas , Just found this pic of that fish with the Net Scars which Mick Jnr got on sat morn the 17/10/04 which was ineligible for the contest because of a Technicality . Not a bad double header , I think you will all agree , and it clearly shows the net damage done to the big fella who went about 40lb and 115 cms long. The smaller One we didn`t measure , but it was a tick under 20lb . So I guess you can glean from this pic , that Jewies are pretty tough Characters Eh fellas ??. Mick
  12. G`day Fellas , About to disapear Forever !. Mick
  13. G`day Fellas , I like the Where is this pics , because I nick em and use em as Screen Savers . Found this one on an old floppy disc that I had forgotten. Mick Ok , How about now???.
  14. G`day Fellas , Joe , was the Nationwide vote For the TFP ....1951... ? , or have I got the figures wrong. If thats right , then I/3 of the Nations vote came from your own electorate , and given time , things could sharply improve. Personally , I thought we would have had some sort of kick here in mark Vales Seat ( Lyne) , especially considering the problem with the Closure of the Manning River , and all the trouble the locals went to. But I gotta tell ya , I saw one of the people on That Committe pushing aside all HTV cards and accepting a Nat one , and another with a lib HTV card in his hip pocket wrapped up and supposedly hidden in a Racing form guide , so how do you figure that ?. I guess when it comes down to it , old habits die hard . Mick
  15. G`day Fellas , Its simple really , The two Closest together = I goal = 6 points . The two outer posts = 1 behind which = 1 point , sssshheezzz , fishermen !. Mick
  16. G`day Fellas , And so are most of the TRUE Believers Clutchie . So are we!. I felt so bad after that incident , I just couldn`t watch One Dayers for quite some time after it . But spare a thought for poor old Trevor , I`ll bet very few can recall his best Bowling average or batting score , but everyone in the Spoting World can tell you who dribbled a ball along the ground to wind a One Day series . Mick
  17. G`day Fellas , Those A.....holes are tied up to my Jetty Again . Mick
  18. G`day Fellas , C`mon Pop , I wanna go fishing. " Ok , The deal is you bait your own hooks and land your own fish " OK". :-rod :-rod :fisho: :fisho: :fisho: :fisho: She did all that and of course while we were all having a cuppa , dragged an enormous whiting from the lagoon , that attracted a large crowd. And what did she do with it?, why kissed it and let it go of couse!. Mick
  19. G`day Fellas , Hey Grant , they are not my fish mate!. But my son gets his fair share , and I never have to wonder what to have for tea , thats for sure!. Mick
  20. G`day Fellas , Basser , please tell me you were not taking that fish into the bedroom ! ,and if you were , I hoped you turned the electric blanket off ist . Top Fish Mate ! , and one thing that strikes you as you see most od these big fish is that they all seem to take on the colour of their habitat , The River Jews are darker , and most times smaller , and the beach Jews are generaly whiter and Larger . But what they all have in common is they STINK ! , and its almost impossible to get rid of the smell from the bath , especially if you have had to drop it in there till morning . It took my daughter 3 weeks to talk to me again , after walking into the bathroom in the early morning , and seeing a pair of eyes staring back at her over the lip of the bath in the faint glow of Ist Light , Fair dinkum fellas , I can still hear that sceam today , Thought it was a bloody home invasion or something serious . The Gumption flew thick and fast as I was trying to clean up the mess , as was the air freshener , I think she went through at least 17 cans of the stuff till she was satisfied. But thems all the fun of fishing aint it fellas ?, guess it would be pretty boring if ya didn`t have the Odd Tale to tell. Mick Ps Hers another one ....55lb
  21. G`day Fellas , Believe it or not , the first fish photo I posted , which was caught caught by Steve , was a carbon copy of my misfortune. Except that my son , was wearing waders and had to take a toilet break. Now what I can`t understand is , why he needed to go for a break in the ist place . I can tell you from experience that waders will hold at least 20 litres of fluid " right ?", Ahh but thats another story!!!!. Nudes , :-rod , when I ist arrived here , an old fella told me one priceless secret in fishing for jews in this place , " Forget everything you ever learnt anywhere else , and trust the locals ". " He also gave me this jem as well , " Arrive 2 hours before sun up , or Sundown , and dont forget to bring something to drink , Fishing for jews is thirsty work". My personal best so far is 35lb , but no pics , I only started collecting pics when I joined Sportsfish. Pedro , Not as yet mate , its 4WD only , and I`m hoping my other twin will pop up for a visit soon , if he does , we will all go camping for a night or two. Any of you stockton Boys Know Andrew Thomson/Thompson ??????. Mick
  22. G`day Fellas , There I was , stuck into an Eagle ray the size of a volkswagen for approximately 40 minutes , and cursing like blazes that I had spooled up with 30lb test for the ist time in my life , because I could not even break this fish off let alone gain any line on it. Finally , having skull dragged it up onto the beach and recovered my 8/0 hook , I had flopped down onto my fishing bucket , understandably breathless , when Up rocked this fella carrying a bream stick. We exchanged greetings , and he seeing as I was totalyy tuckered out , asked if he could just have a quick chuck in , while I got my breath back , to which I agreed. As I looked down the beach , I saw that most of the regulars were hard at it , so decided to walk down and have a chat . As I started off , I looked back to see the fella`s rod that had taken my spot bent over like a safety pin , and he was busily doing the line dance waltz up the beach trying to regather line. This caused a sudden erruption of giggles on my part , because I had visions of another , or even perhaps the same Eagle ray , hotfooting it to Brisbane with his line trailing behind , and so I continued on my way down the beach to say G`day. Some 40 minutes later as I approached my spot , the camera man for NBN called me over and said " Hey , you know that fella that you were laughing at a few moments ago , well mate , he has just landed the biggest Jewfish I have ever seen landed here". To which I sort of replied " Yeah , right , pull the other one", or something like that , to which he told me to go and check it out . I kid you not , this fella , in the same time it took me to drag and enormous SUb from the deep ,using 30lb test , Had hooked , played , and actually landed a 63 lb Jewfish from my spot. The thing was , he was using a bream stick , with 9 ( nine pound Line ) and a 3/0 hook , baited with a store bought worm . Andrew Thomson from Newcastle , take a bow , you are a bloody legend mate. Secretly I wanted to kill him , cut him up in littlle pieces and feed him to the Sharks , because I had fished that very same spot every night for two weeks for about 5/6 School jewies to about 12Lb max , and this fella comes along and does me over with one single cast. Mick He was gracious enough to send me the pic below.
