  1. could see some remoras... although there could have been small cobia there too. Cause there were at least 8 fish swimming underneath him.... not attached.
  2. thanks guys... here are a few more pictures of the whale shark that my friend took. Yeah it was a pretty incredible experience. Not the sort of thing we expected. I thought that whale sharks were mainly a western Australia species.
  3. Headed out in Sydney Harbour and then off port stephens this weekend. Got a couple of legal bream and a Kingfish on prawns in the harbour. Kings only looked at the usual lures and only seemed to actually take the prawns.. wierd. King had loads of prawns in his gut. Then went to Port Stephens had to go out a fair way to escape the crappy brown water and the really strong currents. Found some Dolphin fish and then had a 6 metre whale shark (approx) come up and try and figure out what we were for about 30 seconds. Thanks!
  4. nice fish mate... Heading up there tonight. what area or bait were you using if you dont mind telling. Cheers
  5. first report back in about 2 years, went out on sunday for Kings, Didn't get any fresh squid at the normal spots so tried a troll and some lures around the markers. I saw a lot of other blokes getting kings on Squid at anchor. So tried lures near them too. No luck. Finally found some kings off one of the harbour markers. (all around 60 - 70 cm) The interesting thing was that the kingys only took surface lures. Soft plastics and poppers jerked across the surface were the only lures i got strikes on. It was about Midday and was windy. Made for some incredibly exciting fishing watching the kings smash the lures on the surface. I was always under the impression that in the middle of the day the kings are down a bit deeper. will attach a pick soon.
  6. That is awesome, I am by no means an expert, but i thought i read somewhere that no one had ever found any small marlin. And that they don't know where they go when they are small... Don't know if the same applyies for Sailfish. either way that is a pretty special little fish. Wicked day out too. Garth
  7. Howdy, Do you guys fish for the Trevors the same way you would fish for flatties or bream????? i have only ever got one trev on a bass minnow before and i had left it under the wharf while i answered my phone. i.e. it was just sitting there motionless?? SLow retrieve??
  8. i must agree with kingy. a cd-7 or cd-9 in the red head colour is by far the best. When i troll round barrenjoey we put out a spread of lures and i call our red head the bonito lure becuase you can garantee that is what it will catch. Maybe it has just been luck but that is the only lure which takes bonitos consistently on the troll for me.. I do catch them on others tho. it is not to say others don't work. But that is the best Garth
  9. Hi Livie, I was just in Townsville and Airlie beach a couple of months ago and had a great time. I had some of the best fishing of my life in Airlie Beach surprisingly. There were alot of people fishing and no one catching anything, myself included, but by day three i had the place sorted - so here are my tips. If the water is clear try the end of the breakwall at the marina where all the dive boats leave from early in the morning. I hooked a medium sized spanish mackeral on a big raider but he did me at my feet and also landed a number of Trevally and some other hard pullers which did me on the rocks on bass minnows - i was fishing way too light. Under the Shute harbour wharf are some of the biggest fish i have ever seen. You can fish there when the ferrys are not running - think it is after like 5:00 in the afternoon. There were Giant Trevally under that wharf which must have gone 30kg. And a Spanish mackeral - which was wierd but he was carving up the bait fish. I hooked a couple of fish on lure there but got wrapped aroun the poles. Fish really heavy!!!really Heavy. I also got a few decent coral trout out of that wharf on sunset and a wharf on daydream island. They were much bigger than the ones i got on the charter i went on. Once again fishreally heavy with no drag and just bully them up Still the wierdest fishing experience of the trip was on the foreshores of Townsville we witnessed a Barra free jump out of the water on to the rocks next to an old guy fishing. He simply lent over and slit its throat. He was so excited. It was a good barra 2. Good Luck Hope this helps. The tackle store on the main street of airle was really helpful and showed me all the local spots. and also laughed at my bream gear. Telling me that the trevally would smash me.,
  10. Good One P. WE shall fish soon and beat that one. Next week buddy
  11. Ah i have seen people do that along the harrington breakwall. What sorts of things do you catch with the livies?? are you trying to keep the bait down near the bottom for flatties and the like or are you letting it float around for the jew and others?? Using Poddy mullet or something?? THanks Guys
  12. HEy Fishraiders, Its been a while since i last posted on this site. Have been working way to hard and not fshing nearly enough. But luckily i quit my job. So i am having a trip up to port macquarie this long weekend in celebration Has anyone fished up there before?? I have had a couple of goes when i am passing through but have never caught much. I might have a little tinnie runabout for the eastuary and like fishing plastics. Any help would be really appreciated Cheers guys Garth
  13. Hey there. Have not posted for a while, thought i would write a quicky about me and pw's day out on friday. Started out looking for squid...none. Trolled around the headlands in the harbour for a couple of decent bonito and a rat king. They all took a diving lure ( were also trolling a sluggo and skirt) Moved to bluefish for zilch On the way home saw good schools in upper middle harbour. Pulled a few frigate mackerel and tailor from in the schools. But everyone at them seemed to be doing it tough. Normal lure techniques were failing. What i found was the best method was to use a bass minnow and let it float down through or next to the bait school is if it were dead then slightly twitch it. We saw some massive kings under the school but could not get them to bight. Tried sluggos etc but no dice. cya Garth
