  1. Hi there, Have recently bought a 5.0m Fibreglass boat with 90hp Yamaha direct injection motor. I live in Ryde and wondered if anyone can recommend a good local mechanic or a mobile one. Thanks in advance
  2. Hi all. My son recently moved to Newcastle and i have taken the boat up the freeway twice now and put it in at Stockton. Not sure if things are different off Newcastle, but twice out and managed to boat only one just legal flattie. Both times tried numerous drifts off Stockton Beach in depths ranging from 15-45m. This is so unusual for me. Normally even in a new area i can manage fish. Would love any thoughts from locals or people who know the area. cheers, Bloo
  3. There used to be a sticker some years ago - i had one on my old boat!!
  4. Miller, I was the chap you helped out with the glow sticks and advice. Much appreciated and although we only manged to convert that into 4 squid, I am sure next time will be better. The frustrating part was that I could not find any kings this morning who wante to scoff our hard earned squid. Maybe next time that will be better also. Do you find they come on better at any special time of the tide etc? Any extra info would be appreciated cheers, Bloo
  5. Headed out yesterday morning from Tunks Pk at the leisurely time of 8.30am. Motored straight outside as the seas were surprisingly good and not too much wind. Found it quite sheltered at Bluefish and not another boat in sight!! Berleyed up and sent down some prawns and pillies. Not long to wait before they started. A lot of fun on light tackle - 6lb braid - they certainly gave a gooi account of themselves. Boated 25, released the last couple as we had enough for a couple of good feeds. Most were in the 35-40cm range. Also the usual crap fish - Sgt Baker, wrasse, red rock cod, parrot fish etc Had a substantial fish meal last night with a couple of Lime, coriander and a bit of chilli - sensational. cheers, Bloo
  6. I did hear one local say he thought it was tailor, but surely you wouldn't have a fleet of fishing boats after tailor when there are so many other more desirable species to be had? Bloo

    Happy Birthday

Thanks guys for your good wishes. A great day would be sitting in the boat somewhere on the water watching the sun rise, with a rod in my hand and a beer in the stubby holder (maybe a bit later on for the beer ........ That's not going to happen, but hopefully it will still be a good day............ cheers, Bloo
  9. Mark, Cox's Rd Harware at North Ryde stocks it. Bloo

  12. Went out to the FAD at Port Macquarie yesterday. 26.4 Degrees, but not a dolly in sight! Bloo
  13. Brad, Will be up there in a caravan pk along the Hastings River 29-12th Jan. Maybe see you up there............. Mitch, Any advice you can give on either inside or o/s fishing would be appreciated. Have mainly fished the hastings upstream/around the 2nd ferry. Bloo
  14. Christmas with the family(s) on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing day then from 29th-12th off to Port Macquarie. With luck will have the boat in the water every day. We are on the Hastings River, so will fish there and hope to get outside as well. Any Port Mac raiders want to catch up for a fish? Bloo
  15. Thanks for your comments guys . Out of interest, when cleaning one of the Kings, we found a whole 33 cm whiting in its stomach that hadn't been there for long. And it still wanted to take a thumper squid!! Greedy thing deserved to get caught. Bloo
  16. Got an invite from Brent - a fellow schooly - so hit the water at 0500 and headed straight for some squid. We found them quite plentiful, hope I can repeat the performance next time in my boat.............. With about 10 in the livie tank we headed to downrig Nth Head. Along the way saw a school of fish feeding, threw plastics and metal slices at them. Brent managed a good salmon on the plastic, but they wouldn't take metals. Set the downrigger and eventually a good hit came eventually and my son boated a massively fat 65cm sambo. A bit disappointing as we were sure we were onto the first king of the morning. Tried for a while more along sth head and the wedding cake for zippo, so thought we would try MH as we headed back to Roseville. After reading some good reports of kings in MH from Kelvin and Netic we hoped to find some. Tried everywhere and were about to head for the ramp when eventually Brent said "this spot looks promising" and bang......downrigger goes off, drag screams off the reel and it is a good King. I motored out from the mooring while Brent tried to tame the King. It headed staright for some structure on the bottom, but Brent managed to drag it off - it certainly made a mess of the 100lb leader, shows why you don't fish light leaders - but finally a fat 75cm king comes on board. We repeated this for 3 more good Kings all over 65cm and a thumper 33cm bream which talk a small squid we were downrigging on a large treble!! The kings next to it make it look like a tiddler. All in all a great day out. Look forward to the next one!

  19. Guys, On our trip to Greenwell point we boated several of these on the drift inside the estuary. Does anyone know what they are? They had a mouthful of teeth like you wouldn't believe!!
  20. Managed to schedule a mid-week trip with my father and my two boys. Settled on Greenwell point as we used to fish it a bit 25 years ago. Stayed in a cabin at Coral Tree Lodge right on the river. Nice little spot can recommend it highly. Day 1 - Arrived around lunchtime, settled in and boat went straight into the water. Headed out towards the heads, but it almost blew us out of the water, so back inside and drifted a few spots for 3 keeper flatties. Nothing special, but they certainly went down a treat dipped in seasoning and pan-fried accompanied by a couple of home brews. Gongfisho- Ben, tried the drift you suggested. Wind was a shocker and only managed a few of the normal undersize species. Davemmm - found it impossible to get into Comerong to try the drift you suggested, even though it was pretty much high tide. But thanks for the suggestions anyway fellas - will try them again next time I go there................ Day 2 - Headed out early and ventured out to a couple of GPS points given to me by Stallo - thanks mate, but all they produced was a good sized morwong and a bunch of slimies - still I will try them again next time I am there. The wind was starting to kick up, so headed back in a km or so off the surf club - a spot suggested by the guy pulling beers at the local bowling club. Sure enough, the wind dropped, the sea was like glass and the flathead were on...... We boated over 60 flathead, keeping about 40 between 35 and 47cm. Bait was mainly Stripy Tuna/prawns on double dropper rigs with only very small sinker. There were double hook ups and dad lost a good size school shark right at the boat. I don’t ever remember a morning like it outside, the weather and sea conditions were perfect, as was the fishing!! Day 3 – As you would expect after a morning like yesterday, this morning was a reality check. Wind gusting well over 30 knots, seas with white caps everywhere, so headed back inside for one keeper flathead. Anyway it was a fantastic opportunity to get 3 generations out for a few day’s fishing – it will be repeated! And guess what, more fish for tea tonight!! Hard to beat fresh flathead.
  21. Thanks guys, Will certainly try these spots. Hopefully they are firing and I can post a report of some productive fishing. Any one else with any other suggestions would still be appreciated. Bloo
  22. Ben, Thanks for that. Will certainly give it a try there. Fingers crossed there is something good to report on!! Bloo
  23. Hi Guys, Heading down with my father and my 2 boys to Greenwell Pt for a couple of days next week. Haven't fished out of there for over 25 years, so my memory is a little hazy and obviousy GPS was not heard of back then. Does anyone have any likely spots for us to try? Have a boat capable of going outside, so any GPS marks you are happy to give out or suggestions of where to try outside - or inside in case the weather is not good for an outside trip - would be appreciated. Also any suggestions on a good tackle/bait shop?? cheers, Bloo
  24. Thanks Crunch. Might try there one time when I'm up that way. Bloo
  25. I'm not sure where Wagstaffe is? Can anyone be more specific??? Bloo
