  1. Hey everyone, Heading down to little manly tonight to fish the night and early tomorrow mornning just wondering if anyone has any info on what had been caught around the area. I am going for tailor during the night and kingfish as the sun comes up. Thank you Martin
  2. Hi mate and welcome. There are plenty of fish you can catch that would eg. Hardy heads, tailor ( over 30cm), slimmey mackerel, gar fish, mullet and more. By far the best I have ever used dead alive or cut up is yellow tail. Everything will have a go at it can't go wrong same goes for squid but a little harder to catch. Martin
  3. Thanks everyone for the tips. Will let you know how I go thanks again Martin
  4. Hi everyone, I brought a boat 7 months ago and up untill now I have only ever fished the hawkesbury. I am going out on the harbour with some mates on Saturday and just need some help with some locations. I am going after kingfish, I reckon I can find squid just look for the weedy and sandy areas and have a cast. I do not know where there are any live bait grounds. Can someone tell me where there are a few so I can have a go for some yakkers. For the kingfish I only know the makers like the wedding cakes but my only question is are you allowd to anchor around them or is it in the main channel? But just wondering for maybe some one to point me I to the direction for one more spot for the kingfish and how you fish it ( eg anchor, drift or troll). The last question I have is it what rigs do you use I was going to use 2 unweighted baits as 2 weighted and put on the bottom will this work I don't have a down rigger so I can put any mid water. All help will be appreciated very much. Thank you very much Martin
  5. I thaught that was for the sea bull mullet only, locals up here have told me these are sand mullet and I could not find a size limit on them.
  6. Hey everyone, Took the boat deep sea today. Unfortunately I had things on in the mornning so didn't get out there till lunch time. It was pretty flat but there were no other boats out there. I was fishing blind because my soured is playing up which makes fishing out side so much more harder. I got to a spot dropped and could not hold bottom do I was thinking maybe this is why there is no boats out. Everywhere I dropped it was the same. About 2 hours In the weather started to change so I decided to call in quits there with only 3 legal flathead. Might have to try it next week but tomorrow night chasing sharks of the breakwall. Martin
  7. Hey everyone, Today was Jewish day. With the tide turning at 5pm I thought it was the best time to go and try and catch a Jew. It was overcast and raining on and off which kept a lot of boats off the water do made conditions even better. I got down to the marina about 1:30pm. I burleyed up some mullet and in about 30min I had 5 ranging from 15cm - 21cm. Put the air filter on and headed down to the breakwall. My faviorte rock was free so off to a good start. By the time I was rigged up it was 2:45. The next. 3 hours were spent gong through the live bait. I ended up with nothing which goes for all the people fishing on both sides no one got a thing. Thinking day 13 is a trip to the fad if conditions suit. Martin
  8. Hello everyone Done a couple of sessions today. First was my normal walk along the shore live with some guys from the caravan park. We started about 5:30 and fished till 8:00 in the mornning. There were three off us and we started off good in the first 15min we had s double hook up with two nice flathead. But after that it went dead. We could not get a thing we tried everywhere. It was just one of those mornings but whole we were in the wharfs under the bridge we noticed all the people walking over thd bridge stopping and looking at something so we went for s walk to see what the fuss was about. We got there and there were 4 meter long flathead sitting in a 15n radius of each other. It was an awesome thing to see. We could also see other flathead not as big. In thd afternoon I went down with some mates and fished the corner of the beach again. There were 4 of us and we had about 90min to go some fishing in that time we really ripped through thd whitting. We must of caught 30 fish which was fun and we brought back 5 including my mates 42cm model of a whiting. This spot has now produced 2 days in a row and us becoming my new favourite spot. Martin
  9. Hello everyone After spending day 9 fixing the boat up i was keen to get out and have a fish the next day. We picked the boat up in the mornning and than I thought it was time to go and catch done whiting for a few hours. I brought some live worms and headed down to main beach and fudged the corner where it meets the breakwall. Got down there and first cast got s nice whiting. It was legal length but had no meat on it do decided to let it go. This went on for about 2 hours with some small and some legal but skinny as. I finally god manage a nice one which had a nice bit if meat on it which came home for dinner. That fish was caught on the last price of bait so cleaned him up and went home. Martin
  10. Hey everyone, Late report but I have not been able to get any Internet reception for the last few days. After recovering from a good new years eve on day 7 we finally got some nice weather and I was able to take thd boat outside. We were going to Tony's reef and we decided to troll the way out there. Well the trip got off to a bad start with my sounder deciding to break and not work. So now we have no way to hind the reefs and I now have to buy a new sounder. We decided to look for boats and gush around them. We found a bunch but only managed 11 flathead. This is we're the trip got really interesting. I had only picked my boat up a few days before from having a service which cost me $700 and we were out there and the motor started to play out. So we are something like 10km off and what they said they fixed in the service was still a problem so was g happy. We eventually got in which is good but the next was going to be spent abusing the people who didn't service my boat do now I have to miss out on a day of taking the boat out when the weather finally got better because they didn't do there job not happy. Martin
  11. Hey everyone, Went down and done my normal walk around the shore line atound the bridge and Forster wharf. The conditions were perfect. I got down and got a fish first cast, it wasn't legal but still I thought this was going to be a day like the other one. That's all I got plus a few very large pike. I do f know what the go was with the flathead I could see them swimming around the wharfs I must of seen 5 along with 23 string rays ( they are everywhere at the moment). Any way called it quits about 8:30 and went home. I decided to go for Jewish in the afternoon I got to the marina and caught two mullet in about 5min and then headed up the wall. Got to my rock rigged up and put some bait out. Lost both lives in about 50mi one in thd rocks and the other just fell off after being re castes several times because of the current pushing it towards the rocks. Then went home because I could not catch any yakkers. Happy new year to all Martin
  12. Hey mate, Every time i get chips they have chicken salt, I an very interested to see if that has some thing to do with it Martin
  13. Hello everyone Went down to my normal shore line area for a flick for some flathead. Got down there and saw a guy who was trying to use plastics but really didn't know how. When I got closer it was the guy who was talking to me when I got the 11 flathead. He had gone out and brought his own plastics. I cast out and first cast bang I was on a nice flathead. Then the mate next to me asked for some tips. I was more then happy to help him because he was very keen to learn. For the next 90min I showed him how to but the plastic on tie the knot and work the plastic. All was going good and it all payed off when he got a nice 51cm flathead and he had a huge smile on his face. Said my good byes and went bac because I was taking the family out on the boat today. Took the family out on the boat for a fish/ cruise. We fished around the oysters for a little for no fish. We then went back to the wharf and went and got some hot chips for lunch and went around to one of the islands to eat. After this I took done chips for bait because they are with out a dought the best bait you could use in the lake for bream. In 20min we got to legal bream on floating hot chip people don't believe it works till they see it. After this we went to fish the bridge but saw some dolphins and ended up watching them around the breakwall with my dad getting some really good photos. After that a change came threw so we went home a good day on the lake. Martin
  14. Thanks for the replays, I might stick to my bait of the beach and try spinning of the rocks it I'd something I have never done up here so I'll give it a go.
  15. I have to much gear, I sorted out all my gear before I came away for 3 weeks at Christmas and it shocked me how much I have and how it all fits in my large Plano tackle box Martin
  16. Hello everyone Decided to head down to tuncurry beach this mornning. I went down to throw some metal slugs around in the gutters. I got down there and it looked very fishey. Some other people that were fishing had done bream but no salmon or tailor. I walked up and down the beach for about three hours and got nothing. I have never had success doing this but have seen people do this and succeed. Has anyone on here used this method and caught fish? Plan tomorrow is to walk my normal shore line area in the mornning before going out with the family on the boat Martin
  17. Hello everyone After the terrible conditions of day 2 I decided to go out today and not worry about the conditions. Went down again in the morning around the bridge at Forster a threw a flew plastics around for some flathead. All I can say that I had the best session I have ever had. I got 11 flathead, bitten off twice and dropped two, there was always some thing happening. I started off the Forster Puplic wharf and hooked up in about the third cast got the flathead to the wharf but dropped it. 15 min later I caught my first it wasnt Legal but a start. After this I went around to the wharfs under the bridge and that is where in about an hour I caught 6 fish. 5 of then legal. I saw dome smacking things with the flathead following the lures all the way and hitting them at the wharf it looked amazing. I kept the five legal fish and decided to go home. I was walking home and I was on the wall between the amroo and Forster wharf for people who know the area. Anyway I was up there and I was walking pass and saw thousands of little bait fish I thought I'll give it 20min and see what I get. In that 20min I got 3 legal size flathead that all went back since I had my feed. After that I walked passed the rep spot and the tide was high and there was this area that normaly is about 4 inches deep much deeper then that and looked very fishey do I taught one cast and that's all I needed because I got another one. So in total 11 flathead but what amazed me there were nearly all the same size between 38 - 42cm only one went about 51cm. Went down again in the afternoon but every man and his did was out but still managed one legal flathead Martin
  18. Hey everyone, Up at Forster for 3 weeks and thought instead of writing a huge report at the end of my holiday I would just do a daily report. Today only had the morning to fish since the afternoon was our Christmas lunch with my grand parents that live up here. I was off the shore using plastics. Started off at the Forster wharf at about 5:30 and about 15min into it wack first hook up. It was a a 50cm flathead. Thought to myself not a bad way to start. I walked down the wharf and the shore line leading up to the bridge and got nothing. I don't know if this was due to the fact that the prawns had been running all night or if I'm still not all over the plastic thing I have only been into it hard for a year. Anyway I got to the first little wharf near the bridge and first cast under there I got a hook up and I got the flathead to the surface and I could say it would of been my PB flathead on lure but it eventually bit through the 6lb leader. Anyway re rigged and had a go on all the wharves with no luck. The current got very strong so I had a cast in the marina and picked up two more flathead one legal, one very small. It was 7:30 now and was hungry so called it a day. Tomorrow I get the boat back from its service so hopefully conditions are good and I can get outside. If I can't I'm going to try and use some blades for bream and flathead. I have never used blades before and just wondering how you work them I was going use them just like a plastic. Martin
  19. Hello everyone Today was a busy fishing day three different sessions over the day. First was an early morning beach fish targeting whiting. Go to the tackle store at 6 to buy some live worms but it didn't open till 7:30 so put a plastic on my light surf rod which isn't ideal but it worked I picked up a few little flathead nothing legal size but fun while waiting. Finally hot some worms and my three hour session now turned into a 90min session. Over the 90 min I picked up three little dart, 3 little whiting and 2 legal whiting going 28cm and 30cm. All caught using a light 3-6 kg light surf roof with a 4000 reel spooled up with 10lb line and with a little ball sinker with a 40cm trace on a size 10 long shank hook. The second session took me to the oyster farm, since it is Sunday you can get in there and have a fish. The target species was leather jackets. I have success at this spot fishing for the jackets under a float so went this way again. Had a 2 - 4kg spin rod with a little foam float with two size 10 long shank hooks under it. Was using fresh prawns for bait. Found it hard to get through to trumpeter must of caught about 20 of them. Did manage two jackets but one was a Lille small so only the one came home. The third session was a spinning session around the bridge and in Forster marina. Using my 2-4kg spin stick again with a 6lb trace with a squidgey fish in killer tomato colour. Using a 3/8 oz jig head. Threw the plastic around for about 90min with only one hook up but as lifted it out of the water it fell off it looked legal but I do not know. It was a but quiet to my surprise since I did get the turn of the tide. Martin
  20. Hey mate, I'm going up as well and have been for years. It's great fishing up here. With the jewfish the best place is the breakwall. You can use plastics, the best ones are the 9 inch ones go the best. Or if you can pick some live bait up either mullet from the Forster marina which goes good or some live yellowtail from the breakwall but the best bait is octopus if you can get one decent size one and throw out a leg you should get one. Just make sure you read the tides and you fish the turn because the current does fly threw there. For outside I only brought a boat 6 months ago and plan on hammering the deep sea fishing.i found this site http://www.fishntales.com/gpsmarks/nsw/forsters.htm I'm going off this also I posted a topic a few weeks ago and someone was kind enough to give me some gps marks as well http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=59490&st=0&gopid=426252entry426252 if you see a 5.25 savage centre consol outside that will be me. Hope this helps Martin
  21. Hey mate, Thanks a lot I have marked them down hopefully the conditions are right over Christmas and I can get a few fish. Martin
  22. I'm thinking of going for some whiting off the beach Sunday morning if I can get some spare time or maybe try around the bridge
  23. Hi everyone Came up to Forster to clean and fix a couple of windows on the caravan to get ready for our holiday over Christmas but managed to get out for a fish this afternoon. Rigged up my rod with a plastic decided to go with the number 4black and hold squidgey in the fish pattern. I decide to do my long walk along the shore kind starting from the oyster farm going all the way down to the break wall. Started at 3 and only had only two hours. Got down there and it was blowing s hundred miles an hour do bad I could not cast straight or feel my plastic while I was working it. This was all the way down until I finally got to the break wall. It was now 4:45 and I finally found a little protected spot from the wind fishing in the Forster marina. First cast and it was not affected by the wind and I could feel my plastic and first flick bang I was on and got a 48cm flatty put him in the keeper net and put the lure in the same spot and smashed again got this one to the surface and it was about 60cm but it shock it's head and it was gone spat the lure. Had a few more cast but nothing do cleaned my fish and went on home. Hope you enjoyed the read. Martin
  24. Hi everyone, I have been fishing Forster for the past 10 years. My family owns a caravan up there in one of the caravan parks. I have fished wallis lake more then I have the harbour or hawkesbury and know it very well but earlier this year I purchased myself a new centre console boat to do some out side fishing up there and down here. In all the time I have been going up there I have never really been outside unless it was on a mates boat. I do not know any of the reefs up there or any of the coordinates can some one please help me out? Also I want to start using soft plastics for snapper and just need some tips on how I do that. Thanks Martin
  25. Hey mate, Sometimes I find the bigger the lure/Plastic the better especially when it comes to flathead, I remember fishing this patch at Forster with some mates and we had four boats some were using plastics I was using hard bodies. I had 10cm lure getting nothing then put on a 20cm lure and first cast got a fish everyone uped the size and we must of caught 40 fish between all the boats
